Selected Research Projects
Integrated Behavioural & Biological Assessment among Truck drivers (National Highway): A
baseline study of Truckers plying on four major transportation routes in the country. The
responsibility included development of tools, monitoring the collection of behaviour and biological
data, preliminary analysis of the data and identifying the gaps in knowledge. Supervised training of
the research teams for conducting pre-survey assessment tools under Integrated Biological and
Behavioural survey (IBBS). Designed sampling frame development tool, survey questionnaire, pre-
testing of tools, and monitoring and supervised the data collection for main survey of IBBS.
Oversaw the quality assurance of data which included monitoring the double entry of data at NIMS
and matching the data’s entered by NIMS and research agency. Analyzed the data, preparation of
fact sheet and preliminary report prepared.
Policy Reform Option Database: online database that provides information on reforms that were
underway in the states and districts of India encompassing areas ranging from health delivery care
and related areas including water, sanitation and women’s empowerment. Assessed water related
initiatives taken by agencies working in Rajasthan and many initiatives undertaken in States of India
such as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa.
Job satisfaction survey: A study was conducted among the technical staff of ICMR to understand
the level of satisfaction among the staff. My work included development of tools, data collection,
and analysis of data and preparation of report in consultation with ICMR staff.
Analysis of HIV sentinels surveillance, 2003 & 2004. I have been associated with analysis of HIV
sentinel surveillance data being analyzed at the Institute. Besides this, I was also involved in report
writing for the community survey on STD prevalence in India undertaken by NACO. Involved in
preparing requisite presentation materials, technical notes etc. I was also involved in analyzing
qualitative data collected and writing the report on a project entitled, “Innovative project on
improving the awareness of STD/HIV/AIDS among Truckers in India”.
End line evaluation of India Population Project-VIII The IPP-VIII project was for providing access to
health care services to the slum dwellers living in four metropolitan cities of India, namely
Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata by the respective State government. World Bank funded
the project. The job was to coordinate the end line evaluation on India Population Project-VIII,
compile the results of the studies done in four cities and assist in writing the final report; critically
reviewed the state specific report for enhancing the quality and assisted in writing concise
Implementation and Completion Report of the project for the government of India.
Development of Demographic Database for Micro (District) Level Planning In India: Exploration of
Alternative Data Sources. Development of Demographic Database for Micro (District) Level
Planning in India. The project required compilation of existing secondary data sources on various
indicators related to gender, population growth, fertility and infant mortality. Assisted in compiling
the socio-economic and demographic data available at district level and writing the report.

Study on Why fertility was low in Tamil Nadu? The work involved supervising the analysis of the
data collected and writing a brief preliminary report.
Study on Reproductive health of men. The work involved extensive library research, initiated
fieldwork for this pioneering research on male RH. This required me to interview practicing private
practitioners and men in the slums of Mumbai.

of truckers. The work entailed, writing a mapping report for a NGO working with TCIF in Pune. This
required me to visit the sites, review available documents, conduct observation and interview key

Formative Research and Development Services (FRDS), New Delhi Dec, 2004 - Jan, 2005. Evaluation of
a Training programme for NGOs working in the area of HIV/AIDS and SAC officials The evaluation
was based on telephonic interview with the participants who attend a training programme arranged by
SHRC, New Delhi. The work involved providing inputs on tool to be used for discussed with the
participants, analyzed the qualitative data and wrote the report.
UNIFEM, New Delhi, June –Dec, 2003 and Sept.–Oct. 2004 Baseline KABP Study on HIV/AIDS for the
Project – Equalizing and Gender relationships in the context of the HIV/AIDS epidemic The work
entailed developing the requisite tools, sample size, and training of the investigators, data analysis,
tabulation plan and report writing. Both the surveys were aimed to understand the level of knowledge
on HIV/AIDS, stigma towards HIV patients; opinions on gender related value systems. The community
survey also included information to understand the level of STD knowledge, transmission and cure;
opinion about inclusion of HIV/AIDS issues in school curriculum; decision making power at domestic
front and domestic violence. The study helped in identifying indicators that can be used for not only
finding the areas of focus but also monitoring these indicators.
CARE India March - June 10, 2003. Preparing the instruments for Quantitative survey as a part of
Baseline of Chayan Rural Component of RACHN Program. Conducted the study for the Baseline
