The article and video discuss the increasing worry that Ebola may become airborne and the increasing
likelihood that it will.
The general publics’ perception to this is one of worry and panic.

The report and video is responsible for the views and perceptions of the public for a number of reasons,
the first being the title. The titles for both sources are sensationalist and the language they use is
negative. “Ebola in the air? A nightmare that could happen”.[6] “Experts: Ebola could go airborne kill
millions”[7] The fact that one of the titles is posed as a question sugge sts it could be an increasing
possibility but this is not the case as right now officially Ebola is listed as not airborne and has as much
chance as any other non airborne virus to turn airborne. Also words such as Nightmare and kill millions
set fear and shock into the public, causing them to worry and panic. More so, the title of the video using
“Experts” instantly gives the public reason to believe that the video is reliable and that everything said is
true.
The language used in the actual content of the sources are also responsible for the publics’ perception.
The article uses quotes such as "It's the single greatest concern I've ever had in my 40-year public health
career," said Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at
2. the University of Minnesota. "I can't imagine anything in my career -- and this includes HIV -- that would
be more devastating to the world than a respiratory transmissible Ebola virus." And "This is largely
dysfunctional. Nobody's in command, and nobody's in charge," This language is coming from a Doctor
and largely negative hence the negative and worried reaction that “This is only getting worse”.
Another reason the media is responsible for the perception of the public is the images they use. The
images shown through the video were that of precaution and death. In the images people were wearing
protective clothing and masks to highlight the severity. Also in one of the pictures there’s a bodybag
again using the connotation of death. These support evidence of the media being responsible for the
publics perception of panic and worry.
