File sharing is one of the many activities a person does on a computer. File sharing is basically the process of transferring a file from one computer to another through the Internet without the use of any external devices. It is strictly an online affair. This is catching on very quickly and is a reliable option. This may consume some time, but the transfer is totally worth it because of the convenience on offer. Files are frequently shared, both actively and indirectly, by many people every day. Mail attachments are a good example of file sharing, but it might not necessarily be an active process because the receiver gets it much later. There is, however, a limit to file sharing through mail. File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, is a way of sharing files. The files are uploaded to a certain FTP address to which many users have access, so after one person uploads a file to that address, other users can have access to it. However, many kinds of software have been created exclusively for file transfer to make things easier. The software for file transfer is found in plenty. This requires both the sender and the receiver to install the file transfer software on their respective systems. Both parties have to run the software, which gets automatically connected to the Internet. The sender gets the other person's ID and password and sends him a file that can be received by the other person. Hence, the file transfer begins, and here there is no size limit. People nowadays use chat software like Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger to transfer and exchange small files. This includes images, audio and video files, applications, documents, etc., and the transfer takes place live so both parties know the status of the transfer. This has proved to be a way better and more convenient method of file transfer and is catching on very quickly. Thus, file transfer is a day-to-day activity made easier by the new software made available.
