HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
OLYMPICS

           • Unemployment: The Olympics provides jobs for
young kids as well as represents individuals talents
                                    globally.

It also represents young struggling students unable
                                    to find jobs.

Also working class individuals are represented as
strugglers who are unable to peruse their talent
therefore the Olympics provide opportunities for
                                      them
HAPPINESS DAY
                • The head teacher Esther Holland at
                    central foundation girl’s school represents
head teachers ho have an aim to bridge
the gap between school and community.

                • Some families are not able to afford to go
to evens, thus a festival like this allows a
family to spend the day out with a minimal
                    budget.

                • The students at the school represent
students who aim to work coherently with
other peers, teachers and member of the
                    public and create spectacular event.
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS AND WHY?
DIFFERENT RADIOS • From many surveys we have conducted it was
evident that these radio station where very
                       popular, especially towards the younger
generation as it allows them to:

                   • Listen to their favorite music on their demand.

                   • Keep up-to-date with celerity gossip

                   • As well as briefly listen to current affairs.
CHOICE FM
            • TARGET AUDIENCE - 15 to 24
The radio station aims to reach out to the nations urban
youth, just like our radio station FERM FM

            • In order to connect to the youths, they have conducted
many projects and events in order to tackle issues such as
knife and gun crime which has risen dramatically in Britain.

            • The presented and the website has been formalised in a
way to appeal to the younger generation. The language
spoken is also very modern and simplistic making it easier
for kids of this age to remain in tune with out feeling bored
                because they do not understand.
OUR RADIO STATION
                    • Having done research on Choice FM it is evident that
this is very popular choice for our target audience, thus
we have decided to use their conventions and apply it to
                        our radio newscast

                    • From this we want to have an appealing , urban jingle
                        that instantly engages our listeners

                    • Current affairs about issues that effects them
individually as well as around them in their community.

                    • And finally Celebrity gossip that is at the end of our radio
                        newscast.
RESULTS ON SURVEY
It is apparent that the news
                    convections are not appealing
                    towards the younger
generation, thus why they do not
stay in tune with other radio
                    stations other then kiss, choice
fm and radio 1 who provide a

RESULTS FROM THE SURVEY CONDUCTED

From this survey, it is apparent that the
most popular age group was between the
ages of 16-20. This is perfect as our radio
newscast aims to target these group of
                                               individuals.

What age group do you belong to?

                                                          Young individuals evidently have no

Due to technological convergence people are now
able to listen to any radio station whilst doing their
homework on a Microsoft app. This is evidently a
popular choice, especially for our target audience.

HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR TARGET
AUDIENCE?
MUSIC
        • From a survey we had conducted, we had noticed that
music is very popular and appeal to our target
audience ( youths). It was also evident that the music
stations they enjoyed the most was kiss and choice
FM, thus we had to do research about these radio
stations and see what kind of music they play.

        • This helped us in terms of choosing our coherent
jingle which will be played throughout our radio
station, which will help individuals recognize our radio
station. We ensured that our jingle is urban and
modern, yet sophisticated and catchy at the same
time. This will appeal to our target audience making
them want to stay in tune with our radio station.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGY
FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
TECHNOLOGY
Over the past years technology has become more advanced
changing from Analogue to digital (DAB).

Digital Analogue
Many Digital radio systems for example DAB which Unlike the new digital radio system , Analogue radio only

demand.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF
ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL
Advantages
• The main advantage is the fine definition of the analog signal which has the potential for
an infinite amount of signal resolution. Compared to digital signals, analog signals are of
higher density. Another advantage with analog signals is that their processing may be
achieved more simply than with the digital equivalent.

                                     Disadvantages

The disadvantage of analog signaling is that any system that
has noise for instance random unwanted, variation due to the
signal being copied and re-copied, or transmitted over long
distances. These losses can be amended by shielding, good
connections, and several cable types such as coaxial or twisted
pair. The effects of noise create signal loss and distortion.
SOFTWARE USED
• Garage Band: This software allows us to create instruments, which
will be useful for our radio station. This coherent tune will allow
individuals to identify FERM FM, conforming to the conventions of a
    radio show.

• Audacity: Editing were usually seen as a job only for expertise
which have the skills and knowledge for editing audios, likewise it
can now be done in the comfort of your own home . This software
allows us as media students to edit interviews and box plots we me
have conducted for our radio station.

• Sound Cloud: Similarly sound cloud allows individuals to be able to
upload audios where ever they wish, for example on blogger, twitter
or face book. This advanced software portrays the moving
technology as one no longer requires to transfer audios on to CDs.
PORTABILITY
The beauty about moving technology is that
microphones have now become portable, thus
allowing individuals to recorded anything wherever
              they are on their demand.

This new technology also allows you to remove
certain background noise, given you a clear, quality
voice that doesn’t face any interference.

Mp3 recorders now have a built in USB , hence
allowing a quick transfer to another computer. This
prevents the hassle of having to connect several
leads to the recorder, making it quicker to transfer
              items on demand.
HOW I USED THIS FOR MY NEWS
                • In order to find out what people thought about
happiness day, I decided to conduct an interview
with individuals that physically took part in the
                    event.

                • What this allows me to do is include varies
opinions in my news making sure that I am not
bias and provide a range of views. This also allows
people that weren't at the event to see what they
                    missed out on.
MICROPHONES

A microphone that has shock mount is
designed to isolate vibrations and
background noises that may interfere in
between voices . This will be an appropriate
medium to use when recording our news.

This microphone also known as a ‘dead cat’ is
a useful tool when recording outside or in a
loud area. This is mostly used in studios as it
captures the voice rather then unnecessary
inference from the back making viewers have
                                        an enjoyable viewing.
CONVERGENCES
• This is where two or more technologies merge into one. This has become a dominant
aspect over the past years especially the latest

• I phones- which now have the useful software's such as sound cloud, meaning an
easy, fast transition of your audio to the site or computer you wish to transfer it to.

• Samsung Galaxy- Now individuals are able to listen to the radio simply on their
demand. It is also now of a better quality were there is less interference and having
to stand at a certain area to find a good signal.

• Portable mp3 players – You are now able to store photos , listen to all your favorite
music, as well as listen to the radio simply by placing your headphones in and put it
    in your pocket
PROS & CONS

WHAT HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSING OF
THE PRELIMINARY TASK TO THE MAIN TASK?
THE PRELIMINARY TASK
                               • This allows us to practice using a variety
of software meaning we are able to be
confident and have the necessary skills
and knowledge before our real thing.

This also allows us to choose appropriate

Here me and my team mate Najah have played around with
the editing as recording on audacity in order to build our
skills and knowledge required when creating our newscast.

My seven questions

  • 1. MEDIA STUDIES SEVEN QUESTIONS Name: Fatima Hussein Candidate number : 5124
  • 2. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS ON REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
  • 3. CONVENTIONS OUR NEWSCAST USES THE FOLLOWING CONVENTIONS: JINGLES VOX POPS, PHONE INTERVIEW, OUTSIDE BROADCAST HEADLINES SERIOUS NEWS FIRST NEWS FOR LOCAL AREA TRAFFIC UPDATE
  • 4. HOW WE DEVELOPED & CHALLENGED CONVENTIONS • DEVELOPED • CHALLENGED • Instead of the weather we • Our entire news team of reporters provided a range of celebrity and presenters are under the age gossip stories allowing young of18. Real newscasts have a teens to keep up-to-date with mature, adult team because it adds entertainment and lifestyle . NO YOUNG to credibility and professionalism. However, our young audience are WEATHER NEWS more likely to relate to us and FORCAST TEAM believe us because we are one of them. INFORMAL MORE • CHALLENGED • The type of language and style our LANGUAGE MUSIC • CHALLENGED news cast will be is simple, informal and friendly. We want our listeners • The theme music is lively, fresh to almost feel involved in our radio and youthful unlike conventional station allowing them to understand grave and dramatic newscasts. as well as play and active role in the newscast.
  • 5. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
  • 6. OLYMPICS • Unemployment: The Olympics provides jobs for young kids as well as represents individuals talents globally. It also represents young struggling students unable to find jobs. Also working class individuals are represented as strugglers who are unable to peruse their talent therefore the Olympics provide opportunities for them
  • 7. HAPPINESS DAY • The head teacher Esther Holland at central foundation girl’s school represents head teachers ho have an aim to bridge the gap between school and community. • Some families are not able to afford to go to evens, thus a festival like this allows a family to spend the day out with a minimal budget. • The students at the school represent students who aim to work coherently with other peers, teachers and member of the public and create spectacular event.
  • 8. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS AND WHY?
  • 9. DIFFERENT RADIOS • From many surveys we have conducted it was evident that these radio station where very popular, especially towards the younger generation as it allows them to: • Listen to their favorite music on their demand. • Keep up-to-date with celerity gossip • As well as briefly listen to current affairs.
  • 10. CHOICE FM • TARGET AUDIENCE - 15 to 24 The radio station aims to reach out to the nations urban youth, just like our radio station FERM FM • In order to connect to the youths, they have conducted many projects and events in order to tackle issues such as knife and gun crime which has risen dramatically in Britain. • The presented and the website has been formalised in a way to appeal to the younger generation. The language spoken is also very modern and simplistic making it easier for kids of this age to remain in tune with out feeling bored because they do not understand.
  • 11. OUR RADIO STATION • Having done research on Choice FM it is evident that this is very popular choice for our target audience, thus we have decided to use their conventions and apply it to our radio newscast • From this we want to have an appealing , urban jingle that instantly engages our listeners • Current affairs about issues that effects them individually as well as around them in their community. • And finally Celebrity gossip that is at the end of our radio newscast.
  • 12. RESULTS ON SURVEY It is apparent that the news convections are not appealing towards the younger generation, thus why they do not stay in tune with other radio stations other then kiss, choice fm and radio 1 who provide a range from all music genres to the latest celebrity gossip other then current affairs
  • 13. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
  • 14. RESULTS FROM THE SURVEY CONDUCTED From this survey, it is apparent that the most popular age group was between the ages of 16-20. This is perfect as our radio newscast aims to target these group of individuals. What age group do you belong to? 100.00% 80.00% 60.00% It was evident from this survey that 40.00% evening is the most popular time when 20.00% our target audience tune into a radio station. This could be , because they 0.00% have school or college in the morning and 16-20 Age Groups 21-24 afternoon thus making them not able to stay in tune with any radio station
  • 15. RESULTS CONTINUED ..... Young individuals evidently have no interest in politics and health as they find it boring and feel that the can nit relate to it as appose to entertainment which covers celebrity gossip music etc. Due to technological convergence people are now able to listen to any radio station whilst doing their homework on a Microsoft app. This is evidently a popular choice, especially for our target audience.
  • 16. Audience Gender: Male and female Age : 16- 23 Time: Mornings and evening Economics: phone Television Radio
  • 17. SOCIAL CLASS AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE AUDIENCE • Working/Middle class individuals so they can play an active role in our newscasts as well as keep up-to-date with current affairs that will effect them and there community. • As technology has become advanced there are many ways our target audience can remain engaged and participate with our newscast. • 24. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL Advantages • The main advantage is the fine definition of the analog signal which has the potential for an infinite amount of signal resolution. Compared to digital signals, analog signals are of higher density. Another advantage with analog signals is that their processing may be achieved more simply than with the digital equivalent. Disadvantages The disadvantage of analog signaling is that any system that has noise for instance random unwanted, variation due to the signal being copied and re-copied, or transmitted over long distances. These losses can be amended by shielding, good connections, and several cable types such as coaxial or twisted pair. The effects of noise create signal loss and distortion.

Editor's Notes

  1. what makes a newscast successful is the conventions it follows. Like a typical news cast, we also had one main presenter presenting the headlines, a variety of stories and music. We also used different means such as a voxpop, interview and outside broadcast making our newscast more interesting and attractive for our target audience had a phone interview and created an outside broadcast
  2. Nearly all news casts follow a strict conventions for example main headlines being introduced, one presenter, a jingle played through out the newscast and weather or traffic update. It was evident from our surveys and research that this was one of the main factors as to why young individuals do not stay in tune with any newscast other then those that challenge it like radio one and choice fm. From this we decided that we will have some elements of conventions however by providing more music , using informal modern language, and removing weather updates will make our target audience want to stay in tune with our newscast.
  3. In our survey we conducted it was apparent that our target audiences wished to hear nothing but music on a radio. They felt that current affairs ‘ does not affect them at all as it only portrays the negative aspects of a teenager’. Our target audience also enjoy listening to celebrity gossip
  4. Working class individuals
  5. In order to really gain an insight on what our audience wanted to hear, we conducted a survey which we created on survey monkey. It was evident from this survey that allot of young people do not take any notice of any current affairs and prefer to listen to music.
  6. Different microphones are important for different things and serves a different function . Take the ‘dead cat as an example. This specific microphone captures the voice alone and washes out any background noise that may intervene wit the voice. This appropriate for our news cast, especially during the main headlines.
  7. Technological convergence are when two or more technologies have merged together in one. It is evident that this a popular source used now in modern society through mobile phones, mp4s and mp3s etc. This allows people to multi task and do what ever they wish on their demand for instance the Samsung galaxy has Microsoft meaning young individuals can do there work whilst listening to music at the sometime. This is also useful for us, as now our young audience are able to stay in tune with out radio news cast whilst on the bus travelling to school or doing there homework.
  8. As beginners, we needed to familiarise our self's with all the software's and technologies available to conduct our newscast. This allowed us to gain the necessary skill and knowledge required before we conduced our news. From this we have learnt many things for example all the different types of microphones available as well as their functions. Furthermore, this also allowed us to recognise which microphone we needed for our newscast. As well as this we also learnt about the different software's available for us to use. It become evident that garage band, audacity and sound cloud will be necessary software's to use during the making of our newscast.
