Galileo discovered Jupiter on January 6, 1610 using a telescope. The Romans named Jupiter after their king of the gods, Zeus. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is located 5.2 AU from the sun, taking 11.86 years to orbit. Jupiter has a prominent Great Red Spot storm feature in its atmosphere.
