I functioned as a Charge Nurse during the night shift. I attended all deliveries possible to assist with the care of the infant and to be another set of hands for the labor nurse. I was and continue to be a resource for the newer nurses. I have attended Leadership classes as well as classes in basic ultrasound interpretation and scrubbing for OR cases . I attended & was an active participant at the weekly Patient Experience Workshops (PEW) meetings. I played an active role in the creation and production of the unit’s first Mock Trial, where I was the Defense Attorney. My adversary was Dr. Hill, who was the Prosecuting Attorney, I won the case. I was instrumental in the routine use of IV pumps on the unit and the labeling of foley catheter bags, two very important standards of care. I provided input on the hiring of new staff. As a staff nurse in L&D, I cared for both high-risk & low-risk patients, worked in triage, circulated & recovered patients who require c/s deliveries. I floated to L&D as needed during high census times, though my home is now Perinatal High-Risk. As a staff nurse in Perinatal High-Risk, I cared for antepartum & postpartum patients as well as OB/GYN medical & surgical patients. The patient population is varied from pre -term, PPROM, PIH/HTN, to various surgical patients such as TAH. Many patients are long-term with an average stay of 2 weeks. I taught various crafts & often donated my own supplies to help patients cope with the problems associated with prolonged bed rest. I also volunteered to float to Tower 9 (a med/surg floor) & to Maternal Infant Unit when they experienced high census. I was chosen to attend this year’s AWHONN convention in Orlando. I hold an AWHONN Intermediate certification. I am BLS, ACLS & NRP certified.
