- 2. Welcome to LoneStar Cy-Fair Career Day The main goal of nursing career day is to introduce students to the nursing field. It encourages students to dig deeper and explore their interests. Guests speakers that are available to give speeches to the students will provide them with knowledge about the nursing field, what is expected and needed from the students in order for them to pursue their dreams.
- 3. Speakers ▪ There willbe 6 speakers from different areas in the nursing field available for the speech and answer any questions the students will have. ▪ The speakers will talk about their experience on the job, what class or skills you should be focusing on for the specific path you’re choosing, and what you need to fulfill your dreams of becoming a nurse. ▪ Each speaker will have 20 minutes.
- 4. Speakers cont. • SurgicalNurse – Donna Robinson Donna been with Memorial Hermann Surgical Hospital First Colony for over 8 years. She assist with all aspects of a surgical procedure, explaining the procedure, prepping patients for surgery, measuring and recording patient’s vitals during surgeries. • ER Nurse – Lisa Berrios Lisa been with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights for over 5 years. She provides professional nursing care to patients, conduct assessments, assisting with exams and treatments, patient education, and maintenance of medical records.
- 5. Speaker cont. • ICUNurse – Angela Griffin Angela been with Houston Methodist over 6 years. ICU nurses provide care for life-threatening medical conditions and injuries. The role of an ICU nurse is complex, they work to maintain and restore health to patients through careful management of their various bodily systems. • Rehab Nurse – Brenda Harrison Brenda been with Houston Methodist for over 9 years. Rehab nurses work with patients of all ages. They assist patients with disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. Nurses designs and implements treatment strategies to promote physical, psychological, and spiritual health.
- 6. Speaker cont. • PediatricNurse – Jennifer Carter Jennifer been with Texas Children’s Hospital for over 10 years. Pediatric nurses specialize in caring for children from infancy through the late teen years. They perform physical examinations, measure vitals, and take samples for diagnostic tests. Pediatric nurses also help educate parents and caregivers on their children’s health, and design caring plans to assists families. • Labor/Delivery Nurse – Anna Yang Anna been with Houston Methodist Hospital for over 7 years. Labor and Delivery nurses are unique among the many different types of nurses, they have a very specific job, to help deliver babies and help the mother through the process safely. They coach mothers through difficult contractions, offering encouragement, and advice on pain management.
