MY PRESENTATION
1. Problem statement
 Last week I gave you a project brief that came from the refugee camp. I told
you to go home and read the project brief and then write what you have found
in it. Can everyone take out their problem statement?
2. Design brief
 Last week I showed you how to identify and write a problem statement using
the information provided on the project brief. Today we will discuss how you
intend to solve the problem you stated on the problem statement last week.
3. Investigation
 Last week you presented your design brief which you formulated using the
information on the problem statement. I also gave you the homework to do at
home to gather information that will help you to solve the problem that was
identified on the design brief. Please take out your gathered information. Can
everyone sit and try to discuss your findings and put together your
information. And then each group must choose one group member to come to
the front to present your ideas.
4. Proposal
 Last week each group presented their gathered information that will help them
to solve the problem that was previously stated in the design brief in a form of
presentation. Today I want each group to write down the solution using the
previous investigation and select one group member that will come to the front
to present your solution and convince me as the client about how you will
solve the intended problem.
5. Initial ideas
 Last week each group presented their own proposal to convince me as a
client on how they are going to solve the problem stated on the design brief.
For today each group member must draw at least one idea as a free hand
sketch, consolidate your ideas and select one idea for further development.
6. Research
 Last week you sketched different ideas that was weighed up in terms of their
disadvantages and advantages, and selected one idea to be developed
further. I gave you a homework to do further investigation in order to solve
problems and answer questions relating to the problematic aspects of the
chosen idea in order to develop it into workable solution. Today each group
must discuss their findings about the chosen idea in order to develop it into a
workable solution.
7. Developing the chosen idea
 Last week you presented your research findings of the initial idea in order to
find answers for the remaining problematic aspects. Therefore today each
group will put together their research result in order to give rise to the
development and refining of the problematic aspects of the chosen idea to
come up with a final idea
8. Planning
 Last week we used the researched materials to develop the final product that
we all going to make. Therefore, today each individual is going to put their
ideas of the final product as a formal drawing on paper using drawing
material. We all know that we do not use freehand sketches when drawing a
formal drawing. I want everyone to complete their drawing and submit it today
before the end of this period
9. Making
 Last week we drew and submitted the plans or drawings of our final product.
Therefore, today we are going to put those plans in practice by making a Zeer
pot/pot-in-pot fridge as a solution to the problem on the refugee camp that
was stated on the project brief the first week of this project
10.Test, Evaluate and Improve
 Last week we made and submitted the model of Zeer pot/pot-in-
potrefrigerator. We placed our models on the sun to allow it to dry. Today the
moment we all have been waiting for has arrived, “to know if our models are
working”. And the only way to find out is to test and evaluate our models.
Firstly, each individual will evaluate their peer’s model. Secondly, each group
will assess their peer group’s model. After assessing your work, I want each
group to explain if their model will be able to solve the problem on the refugee
camp or not, by writing it on your work book. Lastly, after the testing and
evaluation of our models, we must also write down how we will improve our
models or even to redesign it.
Project outcome
At the end of this project, learners must be able to design, make and evaluate a model of a
Zeer pot/pot-in-pot that will be able to keep up to 12 kilogram of fruits and vegetables.
SIZE BETWEEN TWO POTS
The space between the two pots is 50mm on either side. Moisture from a
layer of wet sand is created from evaporation which in turn cools the inner pot,
keeping up to 12kg of fruit and vegetables fresher for longer
Questions to be asked
Between a normal fridge and a zeer pot, which one would you prefer to use?
Motivate your answer?
What other products will you be able to store in a zeer pot besides the
vegetables and fruits?
