My Pre Conference With Mrs. Andruska
The purpose of my pre–conference with Mrs. Andruska was to establish a rapport with her, to learn about her teaching style, procedures, and
upcoming lesson, and to collaboratively set a goal for the lesson I would be observing.
When asking my first questions to Mrs. Andruska in our pre–conference, it became clear that she prides herself on providing highly effective
instruction for all of her students. I asked her about the areas of her instruction that she takes pride in, and where she believes her biggest strengths are.
She explained that she prides herself on incorporating a variety of music education methodologies into her teaching. These methodologies include Orff,
Kodaly, and Dalcroz, all of which Mrs. Andruska has studied and obtained certifications in. Her attention to detail in her lesson design, preparation, and
organization was evident when discussing the lesson I would be observing.
I asked Mrs. Andruska the following questions in an attempt to learn more about any instructional challenges she is facing in her classroom:
How have things been going in your classroom?
Can you tell me about some areas that you are finding success?
My goal is to offer you guidance that will help your teaching to improve. Are there any areas you feel we should focus on?
4. How will you know if all students are understanding the lesson?
When listening to Mrs. Andruska explain to me which areas she finds herself to be successful, it became clear that her teaching style is

Teaching : My Goals And Goals Of Teaching
Teaching is a very rewarding and worthwhile experience that I truly enjoy. I appreciate the time I spend working with students and helping them gain
knowledge on new subject matter. Inherently, we are creative beings that find satisfaction learning new things and having new experiences. By having
these new experiences and gaining knowledge, we begin to connect with people and subjects that we were previously unaware of. These new
connections allow us to reflect, critically think, and develop personal skills that ultimately help us learn about ourselves and others. As a teacher, I
believe it is important to foster those connections because they ultimately allow students to further their knowledge.
Because each student has different experiences and makes difference connections, it is important for an effective teacher to be able to learn and adjust
just as students do. One of the main jobs as an educator is to motivate students to make those connections on their own and form the ability to reflect
and critically think about those connections. In order to promote this, students need different resources the same material and different situations to
learn it. By providing new lesson plans, this challenges students to critically evaluate how well they understand the material and where their knowledge
is lacking.
One of my goals as a teacher is to create environments where students feel challenged and have the opportunity to self–assess their knowledge. I believe
that by creating

Designing A Stronger Behavior Management System
Self–Assessment
Creating and implementing this unit on division for this diverse fifth grade class was able to help me grow as an educator. While there were many
strengths from this unit, there was also some areas of growth that could have been made in order to make the unit even more successful. One major
strength from this unit was the differentiation of instruction and assessments. An area of growth for this unit would be to create a stronger behavior
management system in order to make the time dedicated to math each day more valuable.
This inclusion classroom has a wide range of learners with varying ability levels. In math, there are four tiered groups with some students who are
above grade level, some on grade level, and some who are two or three grade levels behind. This unit has rather abstract concepts that the students
needed to build an understanding of, and in order to do that I needed to make sure to differentiate the delivery of instruction as well as the assessment
types. This was a strength for this unit, because each lesson was differentiated for the tiered groups in the form of pacing, guides, graphic organizers,
assessments, manipulatives, rubrics, and difficulty of problems. One specific way that I differentiated during this unit was by providing students with
guided notes, graphic organizers, and manipulative to increase their understanding of abstract division strategies for solving multi–digit division
problems. Long division was a particularly

Reflection On Classroom Management
Throughout the course of this semester, my abilities in certain areas increased quite a bit. One major area that I feel I gained a lot of knowledge in
is classroom management. The classroom management course I am in gave me so much useful information as to how to respond to students,
maintain control of the classroom, and prepare myself for the beginning of the year. I still don't feel completely confident in this area because I am
missing the practice piece. However, I feel that I have the knowledge I need to prepare me for situations in the classroom. I also feel more prepared
to work with diverse populations after my field experience in an ELL classroom this semester. I am closer to reaching several of my goals that I
created at the beginning of the semester. In regards to creating curriculum, my goal was to create lessons each day that are fun and engaging for
students. This semester I have written 15–20 lessons that I feel satisfied to use in the classroom. I also have been starting a lesson plan binder with
lesson plans, worksheets, and handouts organized by course and sequence. This is the organization format that I hope to use while I'm student teaching.
I have also accomplished my goal of putting together a professional wardrobe. I feel that I have clothing that will help me to look less like a teenager
and set me apart as the teacher. This wardrobe will help me to look more put–together and hopefully create an image of professionalism to
administrators. Another

I Left The Biotech Industry
I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy working in a research laboratory all day with little
interaction with people. One night I was watching The Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill Moyers
was interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a statement that resonated with me "follow your bliss" he said. For
the next several months, it was the only thing that I was thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant with my son, and I
was stuck in a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me to train a group of visiting biologists from England for a week on the
use of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I continued teaching for two more years until my daughter was born. During that time, I was voted for three years in a row as "Students ' favorite
teacher." However, I grudgingly left teaching to be able financially to support my growing family. I started an environmental consulting business
with my wife who is a biochemical engineer and was working as an environmental consultant for a firm in Orange County. For the next eighteen
years, I developed and managed a successful company called Ecotek. Though, teaching was always on my mind and the part that I enjoyed the
most about Ecotek was the environmental training and the presentations that I did for my clients. My three children are in college now, but four
years ago I started hearing that inner voice telling me to follow my bliss. I knew that I wanted to go back to teaching, so I took several assignments
as a substitute teacher to see if I have what it takes to be a good teacher. I found out quickly that I want to teach and that I enjoy it, school
administrators offered me several long term substitute positions and soon enough, within a year, I left the business to my wife and started teaching
biology full time at Lynwood Unified School District. It has been four happy years since I returned to the teaching profession. As a biology teacher at
Firebaugh High School, I feel that

My Goals Of Teaching : My Philosophy Of Education
Becoming a teacher is not something I always knew I want to do. When it came time for me to start considering what my future career would be,
all I knew was that I did not want to be stuck in an office behind a desk every day. I wanted to do something where I could make a positive impact
on other people's lives, and be around sports. I wanted a job that would be interactive, challenging and exciting. While searching for something that
would fulfill these goals I found that teaching could do just that as long as I do everything I can to become an effective teacher who contributes to the
world in an important way. My philosophy of education is basically modeled in my thoughts on what makes a teacher valuable to his or her students
and to his or her school. In my opinion, an effective teacher is someone who generally cares about the quality of the education the students are
receiving. My memories of great teachers always come back to someone who put time and effort into their lesson plans, offered their time to students
who wanted to learn more, and cared more about the students as people rather than students. As an educator, things aren't always going to be black and
white and there will be outside influences that can affect the quality of a person's teaching, but I think educators should be willing to dedicate the time
needed to make their lessons fun and well thought out. In my classroom, I would like to keep my students involved and interested in the new material

Peer Coaching : Mentoring Benefits And Limitations
Peer Coaching or Mentoring Benefits and Limitations The proposed workshop must take in consideration training supervisors in peer coaching. Peer
coaching is beneficial for both supervisory and teaching practices. It enables supervisors to provide directed assistance to every teacher and helps
teachers improve their instructional skills and address their immediate instructional issues. Glickman (2010) views peer coaching as a supervisory
approach that helps teachers "confide in, improve and move with each other towards collective actions." In particular, peer coaching provides a strong
system of support as teachers seek to implement new strategies, examine practices, transfer skills and put in–service learning in action. According to
Zepeda (2010), peer coaching promotes teacher's growth and development. Moreover, it leverages face–to–face interaction, thus, promoting
relationship building and strong collegiality towards collective improvement and institution effectiveness. Supervisors using peer coaching as a clinical
and differentiated form of supervision break the isolation found in most k–12 and empower teachers by placing them at the center of their own leaning
(Zepeda, 2012). Teachers who participate in peer coaching are more secure and better connected, and certainly, in a better position to solve their own
instructional issues and problems, as well as, find innovative ways to teach, thus benefiting themselves, their colleagues and their institutions (Hooker,
2013).

Essay about Teaching Goals and Philosophy
Teaching Goals and Philosophy
Entering the field of education requires a person to take on many very important responsibilities. Teachers play a very vital role in the lives and futures
of many individuals. Through the perspective of a teacher, many students come and go year after year. The names and faces of many students are often
forgotten as you enter and new year with new students, new faces, and new names. On the other hand, although educators encounter many more
students then students do educators, a teacher has a much more substantial impact on the life of a student. Upon taking this into consideration, I was
led to ask myself many important questions. What do I hope to accomplish as a teacher? What do I wish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This child needs to be reassured that this is okay, everyone learns by different methods and at different rates. For some students, encouragement is very
important. For example, if a child is not receiving the necessary encouragement from his or her parents to do well in school, then they may not see the
importance in it.
More time and attention should be given to those students who need it. Teachers should pay attention to the special needs of their students and do
whatever they can do to fulfill them. While some students are more independent and seem to have no problems studying and progressing with the
material given to them, others need to be instructed and guided on a one–on–one basis by the teacher at whatever pace suits them yet challenges them.
Also, agreeing with the Pragmatic method, I feel strongly about hands–on approach to learning. I think that students develop a fuller understanding of
how things work when this approach is used. I see methods such as experimentation and problem–solving to be very beneficial; it promotes interest and
comprehension.
I also feel that a classroom should be a very comfortable, non–threatening, and inviting environment. Children shouldn't have to dread going to school,
but should see it as an opportunity to better themselves and their future.
As for curriculum, I feel that a variety of subjects should be taught. Such as: History, Math and Science, Computers,

Using Peer Tutoring And Peer Assistance
Introduction
After taking the survey, I now realize I wish I was doing more differentiated instruction in my classroom. I chose a lot of "somewhat agrees" and that
means that I sometimes implement differentiation but not always. Reading through all of the questions really had my thinking on how I use them in
my classroom. For example: one of the questions I had trouble with was: I make frequent use of peer tutoring and peer assistance in my classroom. I
do not do any of that in my music classroom. I could try and have students help me hand out instruments or papers when we use them. Peer tutoring is
what I struggled with the most and know for a fact that I do not use that in my teaching. I could however, when teaching quarter and ... Show more

I will sometimes jot down by their name on the seating chart who needs help with what. Doing more formal assessments is a must in my classroom.
One example of a formal assessment that I did this past year was teaching the second graders the song "Rocky Mountain." Once the song was
memorized the students would come to the front of the room and sing "Rocky Mountain" for everyone to hear and I would grade them on their singing
ability; if all words were memorized, sang each note on the correct pitch and if they sang in the correct key throughout. I found this to be very
helpful with their personalities and interests because I found out who really liked singing and who did not really enjoy it. I also found out who was
shy and who was more outgoing. This helped me prepare some of lessons for the next few times and I knew who I could call on to sing for everyone.
Another strength that I have is helping students set individual learning goals. I recently helped a student who usually has a hard time concentrating and
staying on task create a GPAR (Goal–Plan, Action and Result), to help him get through his classes more focused. It worked very well and the student
got a great result and therefore I know I will be doing this more next year to help a lot more students become successful.
Improvements
Some of the improvements that I need to make in my classroom is taking inventory of my students' learning preferences before I

Mentoring In The Classroom
III.Mentoring Life is a continuous learning experience, so even those who are knowledgeable still need someone to act as their mentors. As we
continue to seek for knowledge, we become more efficient in our chosen field or career path. Just like being a teacher, it is like a rollercoaster ride
of a colorful experience. In times when a teacher is on top, he feels like he doesn't need anyone but when he's at the bottom, he will seek for an
experienced teacher to motivate him and bring back the momentum to him. However, no matter if you are on top or the bottom, a teacher should
always look up to someone for professional learning. Mentoring is a teacher to motivational teacher scenario that is an effective technique for obtaining
professional development. The objectives of this strategy are to assist new teachers most especially as they begin their career as educators and to hone
the leadership ability of mentors. By using this strategy, the expected results would be the enhancement of quality learning while developing teachers'
knowledge; establishing professional learning communities and honing leadership ability within the school. The key elements mentioned in the book
were concrete and clear. First, mentors possess... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

an essential factor in mentoring. The mentor and the teacher should relentlessly cultivate trust in their relationship. By doing so, the mentor can give
great advice and guidance every time, and the teacher would always take note of the wisdom he acquires from his mentor. They should always be
attentive to each other's needs for a better professional learning (Cutler,

Teaching A Strategic Plan For The Goals And Objectives
interpreters to make life easy and service provided. We should know which type of communication is suitable to each service user. (Aldworth et al.,
p16, 2010).
Proper Planning. Accordingly, it is often proffered that failure to plan is synonymous with planning to fail. Planning is very important in ensuring good
planning. Through planning, managers can evaluate the future and make arrangements that is plan for the attainment of the organisational goals and
objectives. Planning is regarded as the primary management function or first among equals because it initiates and provides the framework for the
other functions. It also avoids errors, waste, or delays in executing organisational activities. It allows managers the ability to adjust their organisations
to the environment instead of merely reacting to it. Good planning is critical to the success of any organisation. Developing a strategic plan takes
discipline, foresight, and a lot of honesty, regardless how well you prepare, you are bound to encounter challenges along the way. (forbes.com.,2016).
Education and Training. In ensuring good planning without education and training, there will not be good quality. It means acquiring knowledge and
skills or new information on how to do things per the recommended regulations and standards, (Steve, 2004). Training and education will help staff
know the new trends. The trip we had to NEC Birmingham was a revelation because a lot has changed. I remember when two or three staff

Even as a native speaker, teaching something as complex as another language will always present certain challenges. During the course, and
particularly during the observed teaching sessions, I learned several techniques and theories that I feel have greatly improved my ability to teach and
control a classroom. More specifically I learned about the different aspects of teaching from lesson planning to classroom management. Furthermore, I
gained knowledge of different teaching approaches and philosophies and was able to find out which ones worked best for me.
What is a good teacher?
Obviously there is more than one way to be an effective teacher. This may depend on what is being taught, what the teacher is like already as a person
and of course the students. As William Arthur Ward said "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires" (goodreads.com). This quote demonstrates that being a great teacher is about more than just telling students about the
material. A good teacher is someone who understands this and thus is able to modify the class to suit the needs and personalities of their students.
This requires a teacher to be adept at gaging the level of proficiency of the students and to teach accordingly. It also requires patience and motivation to
teach. In order to be effective in the classroom, teachers must also be prepared an organized. By focusing on these attributes and by combining this

Teaching : My Goals Of Teaching As A Teacher
As a teacher, my objective is simple if it can be described that way. I want to help students to be able to think outside the box or more critically. One
of the best parts of literature is that it means different things to different people. Literature has the ability to touch the lives of others and give them
significance. This is my objective to have students find the meaning of a text not by just using what is in the text, but by using their critical thinking
skills and find a different meaning to the text than just what is written. There is also the bonus that a critical thinker has the possibility to become a
person to inspire other thorough their writing. If I can inspire students to find their inner writer and write not just what they see on a page but what
them themselves want to inspire another I would have accomplished my objective as a teacher. The main focus of my classroom is to be a student
centered, where the main emphasis on the development of the students critical thinking. Most of the content in the classroom will be novels, short
stories, poems, etc. written by major literary authors. As a high school, English teacher its part of the curriculum is to prepare students for research
projects and literary analysis papers. These two projects will form part of a major long term project in the classroom curriculum. Since my classroom
will run as student centered the input of the students' choice of reading will be taken into consideration. By giving students the

The Principles Qualities Of A Good Teacher
In contrast, the type of inquire based approach that is taught in some of the SKE lessons at University of Sussex allows the student to understand
why a method works and encourage a comprehension of the mechanics behind the steps taken to solve a problem. Personally, I have noticed that as I
gain confidence in my mathematical ability, these sessions become more enjoyable. Still, to achieve confidence and be able to follow these lessons, I
need to familiarize myself with a method beforehand. For me this is most effectively achieved by solving series of example problems by a given
sequence of steps before embarking on a journey of understanding the reasoning behind each step. These inquiry–based lessons, therefore, are most
valuable when preceded by lessons with more direct instructions and teacher led demonstrations. Thus, this supports my vision that since all students
have their own preferred method for learning, even if they are not aware of it, the ability to explain a topic in a number of different ways is one of
the principle qualities of a good teacher.
Interestingly, as part of the SKE course I was given the opportunity to spend some time in a college, observing and assisting in lessons to students that
needed to retake their GSCE exams. The main method of teaching in these classes was purely instrumental, with the goal to equip the students with the
knowledge to pass their GSCE exams but without any deeper understanding of the methods. No emphasis was put on

The Goals Of Teaching : My Philosophy Of Education
As an aspiring teacher, education is very important to me. Education is the foundation on which society is built upon and it plays a major role in
everyday life. It also provides opportunities to advance through society and succeed in life. Each teacher has his or her own unique goals that he or
she strives to achieve in the classroom. I view all areas of education with a large degree of relevance, but specifically target broadening my students'
knowledge and advancing their communication skills. Knowledge and communication will aid students and help them grow as they continue their
education. I will reach my goals of proficient knowledge and adequate communication in my classroom by efficiently communicating with colleagues
and students and conforming my technique to each student's individual needs. All teachers have their own teaching style to use as a guideline to follow
in the classroom. The approach that I find to be most effective uses a system of instructing students and expecting them to follow the given directions.
In my classroom, I will remain constant in the way that I instruct students, yet the instructions that I present will vary in style. Each student portrays a
unique characteristic of learning, and it is imperative to alter my style to ensure that each child is given an optimal chance of learning the material.
Some students learn more effectively by hearing, others comprehend best by seeing, and many learn better when involved in kinesthetic activities.

Teaching Language Arts : Goals And Goals Of Teaching Students
As a future educator, my goal and purpose are to encourage students to go beyond themselves to broaden their perspectives and acquire skills that go
beyond the classroom. I feel that English teachers have the opportunity to play a significant role in helping shape students to be better individuals who
can create a better future. Language Arts is more than reading and interpreting passages. Teaching Language Arts means teaching students to explore
themselves and the role they play in society and the world. Teaching Language Arts encourages students to think outside of the box, express themselves
through speaking, writing, reading, creating, listening, and viewing.
In order to encourage and shape students into creative, competent, considerate individuals, educators must provide them with the proper direction and
tools. This can be achieved by supplying students with a variety of lessons that allow them to gain the required knowledge, but also inspires them to
make personal connections with their peers, with texts, with society, and with the world. One way to accomplish this is through speech. Speaking allows
students to process and vocalize personal thoughts, collaborate with peers for a well–rounded perspective, and to inform, persuade, or entertain others.
Students will need to navigate various methods of speaking both inside and outside of the classroom, so equipping them with the skills to be an
effective speaker and communicator is vital.

The Goals Of Language Learning And Teaching
The goals of language learning and teaching
Introduction
It is generally recognized that language is a "vehicle for the expression or exchanging of thoughts, concepts, knowledge, and information as well as the
fixing and transmission of experience and knowledge."(Bussmann, 1996: 253)
Language is the method in which people from certain culture organize their thoughts, helping them to communicate with each other. Moreover,
language shapes their relationship with other cultural people, and different languages have abilities to shape that relationship differently. Setting
language–learning goals is one of the most important key strategies, which mostly successful language learners obtain. The biggest problem of
language learners obtaining is lack of language learning goals. Kern (1995) noted that it is meaningful to understand learners' beliefs and desires about
language learning, which gives the important point of language learning goals.
In general goals, Coleman (1996) found that the six most popular reasons were "because I like the language," "for my future career," "for travelling in
different countries," "to have a better understanding of other countries thinking way," and " because I would like to live in foreign countires."
In SLA perspective, there are many goals for language learners. SLA focuses on "whether the learners actually obtain native–like competence"(Long,
1990), The goal can be overcoming problems with language learner's communicative abilities; the

In this theory it is believed that activities are needed in order to reinforce the information that the student has been given. This is what reinforces the
learning that has taken place in the classroom. Activities make learners think and thinking motivates learning O'Neil, Fisher, & Newbold, 2009). In this
lesson the material that is presented in the classroom lecture will be reinforced during the small group sessions when the learners are given activities to
do in regards to the information that they have been given. The biggest difference between student–centered education and traditional education is that
with student–centered education a variety of teaching methods are used (Blumberg, 2008). People all learn in different ways and at different levels and
using just one standard teaching method does not always work for everyone. Learner–centered education is beneficial to both the teacher and the
student in that it provides the perfect environment for hands on learning. It allows for the instructor to tie the material to real work examples and
situations while allowing the learner to relate the learning to their own experiences.
Learning Activity There are a variety of teaching methods that can be used for the purpose of developing cognitive abilities (Bastable & Doody,

My Pre Conference With Mrs. Andruska

  • 1. My Pre Conference With Mrs. Andruska The purpose of my pre–conference with Mrs. Andruska was to establish a rapport with her, to learn about her teaching style, procedures, and upcoming lesson, and to collaboratively set a goal for the lesson I would be observing. When asking my first questions to Mrs. Andruska in our pre–conference, it became clear that she prides herself on providing highly effective instruction for all of her students. I asked her about the areas of her instruction that she takes pride in, and where she believes her biggest strengths are. She explained that she prides herself on incorporating a variety of music education methodologies into her teaching. These methodologies include Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroz, all of which Mrs. Andruska has studied and obtained certifications in. Her attention to detail in her lesson design, preparation, and organization was evident when discussing the lesson I would be observing. I asked Mrs. Andruska the following questions in an attempt to learn more about any instructional challenges she is facing in her classroom: How have things been going in your classroom? Can you tell me about some areas that you are finding success? My goal is to offer you guidance that will help your teaching to improve. Are there any areas you feel we should focus on? 4. How will you know if all students are understanding the lesson? When listening to Mrs. Andruska explain to me which areas she finds herself to be successful, it became clear that her teaching style is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Teaching : My Goals And Goals Of Teaching Teaching is a very rewarding and worthwhile experience that I truly enjoy. I appreciate the time I spend working with students and helping them gain knowledge on new subject matter. Inherently, we are creative beings that find satisfaction learning new things and having new experiences. By having these new experiences and gaining knowledge, we begin to connect with people and subjects that we were previously unaware of. These new connections allow us to reflect, critically think, and develop personal skills that ultimately help us learn about ourselves and others. As a teacher, I believe it is important to foster those connections because they ultimately allow students to further their knowledge. Because each student has different experiences and makes difference connections, it is important for an effective teacher to be able to learn and adjust just as students do. One of the main jobs as an educator is to motivate students to make those connections on their own and form the ability to reflect and critically think about those connections. In order to promote this, students need different resources the same material and different situations to learn it. By providing new lesson plans, this challenges students to critically evaluate how well they understand the material and where their knowledge is lacking. One of my goals as a teacher is to create environments where students feel challenged and have the opportunity to self–assess their knowledge. I believe that by creating ... • 3. Designing A Stronger Behavior Management System Self–Assessment Creating and implementing this unit on division for this diverse fifth grade class was able to help me grow as an educator. While there were many strengths from this unit, there was also some areas of growth that could have been made in order to make the unit even more successful. One major strength from this unit was the differentiation of instruction and assessments. An area of growth for this unit would be to create a stronger behavior management system in order to make the time dedicated to math each day more valuable. This inclusion classroom has a wide range of learners with varying ability levels. In math, there are four tiered groups with some students who are above grade level, some on grade level, and some who are two or three grade levels behind. This unit has rather abstract concepts that the students needed to build an understanding of, and in order to do that I needed to make sure to differentiate the delivery of instruction as well as the assessment types. This was a strength for this unit, because each lesson was differentiated for the tiered groups in the form of pacing, guides, graphic organizers, assessments, manipulatives, rubrics, and difficulty of problems. One specific way that I differentiated during this unit was by providing students with guided notes, graphic organizers, and manipulative to increase their understanding of abstract division strategies for solving multi–digit division problems. Long division was a particularly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reflection On Classroom Management Throughout the course of this semester, my abilities in certain areas increased quite a bit. One major area that I feel I gained a lot of knowledge in is classroom management. The classroom management course I am in gave me so much useful information as to how to respond to students, maintain control of the classroom, and prepare myself for the beginning of the year. I still don't feel completely confident in this area because I am missing the practice piece. However, I feel that I have the knowledge I need to prepare me for situations in the classroom. I also feel more prepared to work with diverse populations after my field experience in an ELL classroom this semester. I am closer to reaching several of my goals that I created at the beginning of the semester. In regards to creating curriculum, my goal was to create lessons each day that are fun and engaging for students. This semester I have written 15–20 lessons that I feel satisfied to use in the classroom. I also have been starting a lesson plan binder with lesson plans, worksheets, and handouts organized by course and sequence. This is the organization format that I hope to use while I'm student teaching. I have also accomplished my goal of putting together a professional wardrobe. I feel that I have clothing that will help me to look less like a teenager and set me apart as the teacher. This wardrobe will help me to look more put–together and hopefully create an image of professionalism to administrators. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. I Left The Biotech Industry I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy working in a research laboratory all day with little interaction with people. One night I was watching The Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill Moyers was interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a statement that resonated with me "follow your bliss" he said. For the next several months, it was the only thing that I was thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant with my son, and I was stuck in a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me to train a group of visiting biologists from England for a week on the use of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I continued teaching for two more years until my daughter was born. During that time, I was voted for three years in a row as "Students ' favorite teacher." However, I grudgingly left teaching to be able financially to support my growing family. I started an environmental consulting business with my wife who is a biochemical engineer and was working as an environmental consultant for a firm in Orange County. For the next eighteen years, I developed and managed a successful company called Ecotek. Though, teaching was always on my mind and the part that I enjoyed the most about Ecotek was the environmental training and the presentations that I did for my clients. My three children are in college now, but four years ago I started hearing that inner voice telling me to follow my bliss. I knew that I wanted to go back to teaching, so I took several assignments as a substitute teacher to see if I have what it takes to be a good teacher. I found out quickly that I want to teach and that I enjoy it, school administrators offered me several long term substitute positions and soon enough, within a year, I left the business to my wife and started teaching biology full time at Lynwood Unified School District. It has been four happy years since I returned to the teaching profession. As a biology teacher at Firebaugh High School, I feel that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Goals Of Teaching : My Philosophy Of Education Becoming a teacher is not something I always knew I want to do. When it came time for me to start considering what my future career would be, all I knew was that I did not want to be stuck in an office behind a desk every day. I wanted to do something where I could make a positive impact on other people's lives, and be around sports. I wanted a job that would be interactive, challenging and exciting. While searching for something that would fulfill these goals I found that teaching could do just that as long as I do everything I can to become an effective teacher who contributes to the world in an important way. My philosophy of education is basically modeled in my thoughts on what makes a teacher valuable to his or her students and to his or her school. In my opinion, an effective teacher is someone who generally cares about the quality of the education the students are receiving. My memories of great teachers always come back to someone who put time and effort into their lesson plans, offered their time to students who wanted to learn more, and cared more about the students as people rather than students. As an educator, things aren't always going to be black and white and there will be outside influences that can affect the quality of a person's teaching, but I think educators should be willing to dedicate the time needed to make their lessons fun and well thought out. In my classroom, I would like to keep my students involved and interested in the new material and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Peer Coaching : Mentoring Benefits And Limitations Peer Coaching or Mentoring Benefits and Limitations The proposed workshop must take in consideration training supervisors in peer coaching. Peer coaching is beneficial for both supervisory and teaching practices. It enables supervisors to provide directed assistance to every teacher and helps teachers improve their instructional skills and address their immediate instructional issues. Glickman (2010) views peer coaching as a supervisory approach that helps teachers "confide in, improve and move with each other towards collective actions." In particular, peer coaching provides a strong system of support as teachers seek to implement new strategies, examine practices, transfer skills and put in–service learning in action. According to Zepeda (2010), peer coaching promotes teacher's growth and development. Moreover, it leverages face–to–face interaction, thus, promoting relationship building and strong collegiality towards collective improvement and institution effectiveness. Supervisors using peer coaching as a clinical and differentiated form of supervision break the isolation found in most k–12 and empower teachers by placing them at the center of their own leaning (Zepeda, 2012). Teachers who participate in peer coaching are more secure and better connected, and certainly, in a better position to solve their own instructional issues and problems, as well as, find innovative ways to teach, thus benefiting themselves, their colleagues and their institutions (Hooker, 2013). ... • 8. Essay about Teaching Goals and Philosophy Teaching Goals and Philosophy Entering the field of education requires a person to take on many very important responsibilities. Teachers play a very vital role in the lives and futures of many individuals. Through the perspective of a teacher, many students come and go year after year. The names and faces of many students are often forgotten as you enter and new year with new students, new faces, and new names. On the other hand, although educators encounter many more students then students do educators, a teacher has a much more substantial impact on the life of a student. Upon taking this into consideration, I was led to ask myself many important questions. What do I hope to accomplish as a teacher? What do I wish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This child needs to be reassured that this is okay, everyone learns by different methods and at different rates. For some students, encouragement is very important. For example, if a child is not receiving the necessary encouragement from his or her parents to do well in school, then they may not see the importance in it. More time and attention should be given to those students who need it. Teachers should pay attention to the special needs of their students and do whatever they can do to fulfill them. While some students are more independent and seem to have no problems studying and progressing with the material given to them, others need to be instructed and guided on a one–on–one basis by the teacher at whatever pace suits them yet challenges them. Also, agreeing with the Pragmatic method, I feel strongly about hands–on approach to learning. I think that students develop a fuller understanding of how things work when this approach is used. I see methods such as experimentation and problem–solving to be very beneficial; it promotes interest and comprehension. I also feel that a classroom should be a very comfortable, non–threatening, and inviting environment. Children shouldn't have to dread going to school, but should see it as an opportunity to better themselves and their future. As for curriculum, I feel that a variety of subjects should be taught. • 9. Using Peer Tutoring And Peer Assistance Introduction After taking the survey, I now realize I wish I was doing more differentiated instruction in my classroom. I chose a lot of "somewhat agrees" and that means that I sometimes implement differentiation but not always. Reading through all of the questions really had my thinking on how I use them in my classroom. For example: one of the questions I had trouble with was: I make frequent use of peer tutoring and peer assistance in my classroom. I do not do any of that in my music classroom. I could try and have students help me hand out instruments or papers when we use them. Peer tutoring is what I struggled with the most and know for a fact that I do not use that in my teaching. I could however, when teaching quarter and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will sometimes jot down by their name on the seating chart who needs help with what. Doing more formal assessments is a must in my classroom. One example of a formal assessment that I did this past year was teaching the second graders the song "Rocky Mountain." Once the song was memorized the students would come to the front of the room and sing "Rocky Mountain" for everyone to hear and I would grade them on their singing ability; if all words were memorized, sang each note on the correct pitch and if they sang in the correct key throughout. I found this to be very helpful with their personalities and interests because I found out who really liked singing and who did not really enjoy it. I also found out who was shy and who was more outgoing. This helped me prepare some of lessons for the next few times and I knew who I could call on to sing for everyone. Another strength that I have is helping students set individual learning goals. I recently helped a student who usually has a hard time concentrating and staying on task create a GPAR (Goal–Plan, Action and Result), to help him get through his classes more focused. It worked very well and the student got a great result and therefore I know I will be doing this more next year to help a lot more students become successful. • 11. Mentoring In The Classroom III.Mentoring Life is a continuous learning experience, so even those who are knowledgeable still need someone to act as their mentors. As we continue to seek for knowledge, we become more efficient in our chosen field or career path. Just like being a teacher, it is like a rollercoaster ride of a colorful experience. In times when a teacher is on top, he feels like he doesn't need anyone but when he's at the bottom, he will seek for an experienced teacher to motivate him and bring back the momentum to him. However, no matter if you are on top or the bottom, a teacher should always look up to someone for professional learning. Mentoring is a teacher to motivational teacher scenario that is an effective technique for obtaining professional development. The objectives of this strategy are to assist new teachers most especially as they begin their career as educators and to hone the leadership ability of mentors. By using this strategy, the expected results would be the enhancement of quality learning while developing teachers' knowledge; establishing professional learning communities and honing leadership ability within the school. The key elements mentioned in the book were concrete and clear. First, mentors possess... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mentor and the teacher should relentlessly cultivate trust in their relationship. • 12. Teaching A Strategic Plan For The Goals And Objectives interpreters to make life easy and service provided. We should know which type of communication is suitable to each service user. (Aldworth et al., p16, 2010). Proper Planning. Accordingly, it is often proffered that failure to plan is synonymous with planning to fail. Planning is very important in ensuring good planning. Through planning, managers can evaluate the future and make arrangements that is plan for the attainment of the organisational goals and objectives. Planning is regarded as the primary management function or first among equals because it initiates and provides the framework for the other functions. It also avoids errors, waste, or delays in executing organisational activities. It allows managers the ability to adjust their organisations to the environment instead of merely reacting to it. Good planning is critical to the success of any organisation. Developing a strategic plan takes discipline, foresight, and a lot of honesty, regardless how well you prepare, you are bound to encounter challenges along the way. (forbes.com.,2016). Education and Training. In ensuring good planning without education and training, there will not be good quality. It means acquiring knowledge and skills or new information on how to do things per the recommended regulations and standards, (Steve, 2004). • 13. Teacher Reflection Paper Even as a native speaker, teaching something as complex as another language will always present certain challenges. During the course, and particularly during the observed teaching sessions, I learned several techniques and theories that I feel have greatly improved my ability to teach and control a classroom. More specifically I learned about the different aspects of teaching from lesson planning to classroom management. Furthermore, I gained knowledge of different teaching approaches and philosophies and was able to find out which ones worked best for me. What is a good teacher? Obviously there is more than one way to be an effective teacher. This may depend on what is being taught, what the teacher is like already as a person and of course the students. As William Arthur Ward said "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires" (goodreads.com). This quote demonstrates that being a great teacher is about more than just telling students about the material. A good teacher is someone who understands this and thus is able to modify the class to suit the needs and personalities of their students. • 14. Teaching : My Goals Of Teaching As A Teacher As a teacher, my objective is simple if it can be described that way. I want to help students to be able to think outside the box or more critically. One of the best parts of literature is that it means different things to different people. Literature has the ability to touch the lives of others and give them significance. This is my objective to have students find the meaning of a text not by just using what is in the text, but by using their critical thinking skills and find a different meaning to the text than just what is written. There is also the bonus that a critical thinker has the possibility to become a person to inspire other thorough their writing. If I can inspire students to find their inner writer and write not just what they see on a page but what them themselves want to inspire another I would have accomplished my objective as a teacher. The main focus of my classroom is to be a student centered, where the main emphasis on the development of the students critical thinking. Most of the content in the classroom will be novels, short stories, poems, etc. written by major literary authors. As a high school, English teacher its part of the curriculum is to prepare students for research projects and literary analysis papers. These two projects will form part of a major long term project in the classroom curriculum. Since my classroom will run as student centered the input of the students' choice of reading will be taken into consideration. By giving students the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Principles Qualities Of A Good Teacher In contrast, the type of inquire based approach that is taught in some of the SKE lessons at University of Sussex allows the student to understand why a method works and encourage a comprehension of the mechanics behind the steps taken to solve a problem. Personally, I have noticed that as I gain confidence in my mathematical ability, these sessions become more enjoyable. Still, to achieve confidence and be able to follow these lessons, I need to familiarize myself with a method beforehand. For me this is most effectively achieved by solving series of example problems by a given sequence of steps before embarking on a journey of understanding the reasoning behind each step. These inquiry–based lessons, therefore, are most valuable when preceded by lessons with more direct instructions and teacher led demonstrations. Thus, this supports my vision that since all students have their own preferred method for learning, even if they are not aware of it, the ability to explain a topic in a number of different ways is one of the principle qualities of a good teacher. Interestingly, as part of the SKE course I was given the opportunity to spend some time in a college, observing and assisting in lessons to students that needed to retake their GSCE exams. The main method of teaching in these classes was purely instrumental, with the goal to equip the students with the knowledge to pass their GSCE exams but without any deeper understanding of the methods. No emphasis was put on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Goals Of Teaching : My Philosophy Of Education As an aspiring teacher, education is very important to me. Education is the foundation on which society is built upon and it plays a major role in everyday life. It also provides opportunities to advance through society and succeed in life. Each teacher has his or her own unique goals that he or she strives to achieve in the classroom. I view all areas of education with a large degree of relevance, but specifically target broadening my students' knowledge and advancing their communication skills. Knowledge and communication will aid students and help them grow as they continue their education. I will reach my goals of proficient knowledge and adequate communication in my classroom by efficiently communicating with colleagues and students and conforming my technique to each student's individual needs. All teachers have their own teaching style to use as a guideline to follow in the classroom. The approach that I find to be most effective uses a system of instructing students and expecting them to follow the given directions. In my classroom, I will remain constant in the way that I instruct students, yet the instructions that I present will vary in style. Each student portrays a unique characteristic of learning, and it is imperative to alter my style to ensure that each child is given an optimal chance of learning the material. Some students learn more effectively by hearing, others comprehend best by seeing, and many learn better when involved in kinesthetic activities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Teaching Language Arts : Goals And Goals Of Teaching Students As a future educator, my goal and purpose are to encourage students to go beyond themselves to broaden their perspectives and acquire skills that go beyond the classroom. I feel that English teachers have the opportunity to play a significant role in helping shape students to be better individuals who can create a better future. Language Arts is more than reading and interpreting passages. Teaching Language Arts means teaching students to explore themselves and the role they play in society and the world. Teaching Language Arts encourages students to think outside of the box, express themselves through speaking, writing, reading, creating, listening, and viewing. In order to encourage and shape students into creative, competent, considerate individuals, educators must provide them with the proper direction and tools. This can be achieved by supplying students with a variety of lessons that allow them to gain the required knowledge, but also inspires them to make personal connections with their peers, with texts, with society, and with the world. One way to accomplish this is through speech. Speaking allows students to process and vocalize personal thoughts, collaborate with peers for a well–rounded perspective, and to inform, persuade, or entertain others. Students will need to navigate various methods of speaking both inside and outside of the classroom, so equipping them with the skills to be an effective speaker and communicator is vital. To go along with speaking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Goals Of Language Learning And Teaching The goals of language learning and teaching Introduction It is generally recognized that language is a "vehicle for the expression or exchanging of thoughts, concepts, knowledge, and information as well as the fixing and transmission of experience and knowledge."(Bussmann, 1996: 253) Language is the method in which people from certain culture organize their thoughts, helping them to communicate with each other. Moreover, language shapes their relationship with other cultural people, and different languages have abilities to shape that relationship differently. Setting language–learning goals is one of the most important key strategies, which mostly successful language learners obtain. The biggest problem of language learners obtaining is lack of language learning goals. Kern (1995) noted that it is meaningful to understand learners' beliefs and desires about language learning, which gives the important point of language learning goals. In general goals, Coleman (1996) found that the six most popular reasons were "because I like the language," "for my future career," "for travelling in different countries," "to have a better understanding of other countries thinking way," and " because I would like to live in foreign countires." In SLA perspective, there are many goals for language learners. SLA focuses on "whether the learners actually obtain native–like competence"(Long, 1990), The goal can be overcoming problems with language learner's communicative abilities; the ... • 19. Wound Care: Sterile Dressing Changes Essay Objectives According to Bastable and Doody (2007) an objective is a specific, single one–dimensional behavior. Objectives are used to form a map to provide directions on how to achieve a particular goal. In this lesson the students will have two goals. The first is for the student nurses to be able to identify all the supplies necessary to change a sterile dressing and to be able to correctly assess when a dressing needs changed or reinforced. The lesson plan will contain the following objectives: 1.Following classroom lecture, the student will identify all the supplies needed to change a sterile dressing. 2.Following a small group session, the student will be able to recognize the eight signs of when a sterile dressing needs to be ... This is what reinforces the learning that has taken place in the classroom. Activities make learners think and thinking motivates learning O'Neil, Fisher, & Newbold, 2009). In this lesson the material that is presented in the classroom lecture will be reinforced during the small group sessions when the learners are given activities to do in regards to the information that they have been given. The biggest difference between student–centered education and traditional education is that with student–centered education a variety of teaching methods are used (Blumberg, 2008). People all learn in different ways and at different levels and using just one standard teaching method does not always work for everyone. Learner–centered education is beneficial to both the teacher and the student in that it provides the perfect environment for hands on learning. It allows for the instructor to tie the material to real work examples and situations while allowing the learner to relate the learning to their own experiences. Learning Activity There are a variety of teaching methods that can be used for the purpose of developing cognitive abilities (Bastable & Doody, 2007). In order to attain the goal that I ...
