June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Purpose
My North London film
magazine is based on
the horror genre
My magazine will
advertise a new
movie
The latest releases of
horror films will be
included
3. Form, genre and price
My horror genre based magazine is 40 pages
The standard price is £3.50 allowing it to be affordable for
the target audience (teenagers)
Main colour's used: red, black, grey and white
In the double page spread the image will bleed into the next
page
4. Content and article ideas
Will have actor/s, props, behind the scene features, quotes and reviews
Behind the scenes will be a large asset within the magazine
Behind-the-scene details included for the online and printed version are reviews and interviews with the actors and
directors as well as the audience obtaining an insight into the variety of unique costumes and prosthetics an actor
must wear
Yet, the online version differs from the printed version - same content but extra features
Cinemas which are showing the films could be encouraged to pay for advertising. Crucially, there would be bonus
content available to those who subscribe to the online platform. There could even be an option to view online the
print magazine in a page-flipping fashion
The front cover:
Within the double page spread:
5. Target audience
The magazine is for
all races, classes
and genders
01
The target audience
are teenagers as the
primary audience
and adults are the
secondary audience
02
My magazine is not
suitable for children
as graphic, violent
topics may be
covered

6. Distribution and marketing
methods
• To advertise the magazine, a social media page will be created on
both Facebook and Instagram
• Advertising on these social media platforms could be an effective
way because the magazine will most likely appeal to teenagers who
would be the primary audience and many social media users are this
age
• The magazine will be distributed across North London for a
consumer to purchase
9. Resources
Software packages (e.g. photoshop licence), printer, computer and
digital camera
Software packages - needed because
some images that will be featured in the
magazine will need to be edited – can be
adjusting the colour of a picture to
making it darker or lighter (tone)
A printer – make hand-copies of
magazine to then distribute to shops so
consumers can purchase it
A computer - needed for many reasons
such as accessing software packages
like photoshop
A digital camera - necessary for custom
photography rather than getting images
from online for the whole
magazine. This will allow me to obtain
pictures I want including specific
lighting and quality
The magazine requires these resources:
10. Magazine title and font
The title of the magazine - large, bold letters
to promote my magazine brand
It will be in a dark red colour which
connotes blood, danger and anger
Serif font - used because the serifs make it a
clear, easily readable front. Additionally, the
serif font has a professional quality to it.
Therefore, I would want this type of font as
the title because the title is one of the most
vital aspects of the front cover due to it
grabbing the consumers attention first
13. Font styles: masthead
The title of the magazine will be in large, bold letters to promote my magazine brand as it will be
eye-catching. As well as this, my title will be in a dark red colour. This connotes blood, danger and
anger.
This serif font will be used for the title because the serifs make it clear and easily readable. As well
as this, the serif font has a professional quality to it. Therefore, I would want this type of font as the
title because the title is one of the most vital aspects of the front cover due to it grabbing the
consumers attention first.
14. Font styles: main coverline
This sans serif font I have chosen has a youthful quality which links to the primary audience -
teenagers
15. Font styles: body copy
I have decided to use the sans serif font again in my magazine and this will be for the body copy
font. This specific font is intended to be neat and clear to read - especially because this is what the
majority of the font will be for the magazine. The font also looks sophisticated and professional.
16. Moodboard
My moodboard has dark images with the
recurring colours of red, black, white and
grey to symbolise the horror genre. Films,
actors and scenes are in my horror genre
based moodboard which conclude the
content involved within my film magazine.
17. Exisiting examples of magazines in competition
A similar horror film magazine to mine is based in the United
States - it is called Fangoria. The content available inside the
magazine are interviews with horror filmmakers and exclusive
behind the scene stories and photo's.
Another example of magazines in competition to mine is Empire
magazine - located in London. Empire magazine is based around
all the lastest film reviews and exclusive interviews with actors
and directors.
