MY GUSHCLOUD
EXPERIENCE

Social media intern edition
OVERVIEW
I have recently been granted the
honour of receiving a New Colombo
Plan Scholarship and have
completed a 6-week remote
internship with Gushcloud
International in Semester 1 2023
under the mentorship of Charlene
Javier and Patricia Mae Hall.
Throughout that time I have picked
up skills and experience that has
been invaluable. The following slides
will provide a summary of my
experience.
overview
Gushcloud is a world-renowned digital and social media marketing entity. They focus
on talent acquisition. Focusing on the influencer space, they aim to connect brands
and audiences to them through representation and management.
Furthermore, Gushcloud International is also involved in the licensing and co-creation
of significant intellectual property.

SOCIAL MEDIA
COPYWRITING
My main daily responsibility was to write the
copy for both Gushcloud International social
media as well as Gushcloud Studios'
instagram account. This included content
research and/or parsing content and writing
to engage the audience. The focal point
around these posts often were the influencers
and content creators from Gushcloud's talent
pool.

TALENT
TRACKER
For both Gushcloud International
and Gushcloud Studios talents, I
had to track social media
numbers. Initially, I had to track
down missing data. There were 5
main platforms that had to be
tracked - Facebook, Instagram,
TikTok, Twitter and YouTube.
Furthermore, I had to also track
birthdays. This was an ongoing
task that had to be updated as
frequently as possible.

IP RESEARCH
Another one of my tasks was
research for two upcoming IPs for
Gushcloud. This involved looking
for information that fit the criteria
across the internet. This will later
be turned into a base for content
ideas dependent on what
direction the social media team
takes to launch these IPs.

PITCH DECK
I created the pitch deck for the
upcoming Father's Day 2023
campaign. The pitch deck outlined the
objective and aim of the campaign as
well as prospective content ideas and
talents to participate in the campaign.
Finally, it capped off with a timeline
that the campaign rollout would take
place.
The pitch deck has been approved and
is onto the next stage.

ACHIEVEMENT REPORT - OVERALL ANALYSIS
Every month the Social Media team presents an achievement report that rounds up the statistics across
all Gushcloud channels. I helped with the overall analysis of the report, whereby I analysed information to
pick out the most important trends and significant achievements to present at the conclusion of the
presentation.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
Some strengths that I discovered was my
ability to effectively communicate through my
copywriting. To match the tone and style of
messaging and provide consistency from
examples of previous work was something I
excelled in. Furthermore, I found that I was able
to solve potential issues in the content
creation process and optimise workflows for
not just my assigned tasks but for my mentors
as well.
My best skill in my opinion was my ability to
prioritise and take on juggle tasks and projects
at once.
The biggest struggle was also in the
communication aspect for me, in that I had to
find a way to simultaneously express a
specific message while juggling with
requirements.
Another improvement I could make is in
researching and coming up with content
ideas, where taking a step back and planning
before committing to a task would have been
beneficial however, I acknowledge that these
weaknesses will come over time and

Liked
What I
My experience at Gushcloud was an extremely enjoyable one. I particularly enjoyed the freedom
that came from my mentors. While they were always available to help if I needed, they let me
complete tasks at my own pace. With my self-discipline, this bode very well and took pressure off
me. The way that my mentors built-up the how they would be assigning me tasks was very
streamlined and in-line with my capacity to take on more as the weeks went on.
In terms of the work itself, I enjoyed the more creatively-driven tasks. I really enjoyed creating the
Father's Day campaign from the ground up. I also enjoyed the caption-writing process as it also
allowed me to express creativity and allowed for significant input in the direction of Gushcloud's
social media direction.

DISLIKED
What I
Within the daily tasks on the Social Media team, there were a few tasks that were menial tasks that
needed to be done. Although these tasks provided the backbone on which the system of social
media and content creation is built on, these were understandably "boring," and repetitive in
nature. Specifically, the tracking of talent's social media was one of these tasks.
Furthermore, I also wished that I could do more. While the tenure of the internship was short, I wish I
could contribute more to the success of Gushcloud's Corporate Communication division - in
essence, make more of an impact in my time there.
reflection: what i disliked
AT UNIVERSITY ON THE JOB
An extremely broad education, the things I
learn from University generally is the theory
behind the workings of Social Media. The
practical application of these teachings are
extremely controlled and act only as a
simulation with little stakes - barring being
graded for assessment.
At Gushcloud, what I learnt was extremely
specialised and narrow. These skills were
crucial to being successful on the job.
Furthermore, the environment offered more
freedom and pressure simultaneously, as
with the workplace, success is dictated by
results and efficiency.

HARD SKILLS
The bulk of my time
was spent writing

crucial skill that I

SOFT SKILLS
With many things on
the plate at all times,
prioritising and being
efficient in what I was
doing was crucial to
not only my role but
the successes of the
Social Media team's
work in general.
Taking initiative allowed me to help out
and gain insights on areas that would
not have been possible if I hadn't shown
enthusiasm towards my role.
My success in
navigating many
aspects of the job
was dictated by
communication. Most
importantly, the job
itself, but also asking
the right questions,
expressing myself
effectively etc...
skills: mainsoft skills
While this internship has been an unforgettable experience, it has left me with some
questions about the industry as a whole.
With the buzz and interest surrounding Artificial Intelligence, I would love to know how it
would affect the workflow and change how people work in the Corporate
Communication world - moreover, it would have been great to discuss the
implementation of AI into the workflow of the Social Media side of Gushcloud.
Personally, I would have loved to pick the brains of my mentors a little bit more on their
processes also.
