This presentation summarises my 10 week internship with Gushcloud International based with Corporate Communications in the Philippines. Thank you to Gushcloud, Curtin University and the New Colombo Plan for this opportunity.
2. This internship was facilitated through the New Colombo Plan
Mobility Program providing funding to universities to support
Australian undergraduate students (18-28) to experience virtual
internships, mentorships and practirums across 40 host
locations.
Overview: Background
Internship Program:
Gushcloud International is a global digital talent agency
focused on influencer entertainment, marketing and
management. They focus on connecting audiences and
talent through their five sub-units of entertainment, social
media influencers, talent, technology and investments to
create positive impact on the influencer landscape.
Gushcloud has more than 250 employees across 14 offices in
11 countries, headquartered in Singapore and has the largest
coverage in the Asia Pacific.
Gushcloud
Placement
This opportunity involved a 10 week placement at
Gushcloud’s Corporate Communications division based
in the Philippines.
This team focused on:
Collaboration within the division and across
Gushcloud offices
Design and creation of content
Communication of Gushcloud activities through
different channels of social media.
The Corporate Communications division is incredibly
important in Gushcloud’s organisational operations,
processes and audience perception.
My role and tasks were focused on research,
brainstorming, planning, competitor analysis and
administrative tasks.
3. Supervisors
Elaine Tay was my Curtin supervisor who I
touched base with as was a source of
support and guidance.
I worked directly under Darlene Malimas,
the Regional Head of Corporate
Communications who assigned me tasks
and oversaw my work.
Tafadzwa Bunhu, Pamela Getalado and Sofia
Ampil were fellow Curtin interns also placed
with Gushcloud. Taf and I worked closely
together on multiple projects.
Over the course of the internship, I averaged
10-14 hours a week across Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday. My full-time university
study load, work and club commitments meant I
had to be organised and balance completing
assigned tasks when I was free. To make this
easier, I sent a general availability table to
Darlene outlining my existing commitments.
Schedule:
4. Receive assigned task
from Darlene.
Share completed task
with Darlene via
Google Drive or
through a
presentation format
Research, compile
and/or collaborate with
others using my
Gushcloud Google
Drive.

Timeline of All Tasks:
6. Working within a professional, corporate
environment gave me insight into the fast
paced yet high quality production of
work.
The variety of tasks kept me on my toes
and allowed me to try different areas of
the Corporate Communications division.
Receiving direct, quick feedback on tasks
were helpful to my improvement,
confidence and growth
This internship required independence
and for me to take initiative on tasks.
Asking questions and seeking
clarification was something that I grew
more comfortable in doing and helped me
accomplish my work more efficiently and
of higher quality
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Taf and
Bea on research tasks. It not only pushed
me to do high quality work to not let the
team down, but also was great to bounce
ideas and use our strengths to work
together
The virtual nature of this internship made
communication a challenge. We used
DingTalk as a messaging platform and
Google Meets for virtual presentations.
However, it was helpful that our
experience was typical of an employee
given that Gushcloud is an international
organisation. My communication skills
improved overtime and is an area I will
continue to work on.

Reflection: Experience and Learnings
Producing work with the knowledge that
it was not only helpful but was
implemented within Gushcloud or
partially is incredibly rewarding to know I
made an impact over 10 weeks.
Rewarding
7. -> Research skills (quickly and efficiently
consolidating information)
-> Creating presentation (formatting engaging
presentations)
-> Collaboration and teamwork (organisation and
enjoyment of working with Taf and Bea)

Reflection: Personal
-> Communication with mentor (vastly improved, not
scared to ask questions or seek clarifications)
-> Delivering presentations (presenting to our
Communications Team was a challenge to
communicate our findings)
-> Time (being very busy with many commitments,
being available for certain tasks was challenging)
-> Variety (different types of tasks kept me on my
toes and made it interesting)
-> Collaboration(working with Taf and Bea on tasks
and the support system of all interns was reassuring)
-> Gushcloud (working for a large, international
organisation who works with influencers was
insightful and a unique experience)
-> Virtual (made it challenging to balance tasks with
commitments with no physical placement)
-> Self-learning (some tasks were more difficult to
understand and required more clarification which
slowed down its completion)
-> Turnaround (the short turnaround was sometimes
difficult with tasks taking longer than expected but
having pressing deadlines)
8. Reflection: Overall
The 10 weeks of my internship flew by and it was a great learning experience not only of the corporate world
but also about myself. I got a chance to work on a variety of different tasks and with Taf and Bea which I found
enjoyable. The challenges I encountered were often caused by miscommunication and time. My
communication skills have definitely improved overtime along with my ability to adapt with the fast pace of
Gushcloud.
This internship gave me an opportunity to learn life/work skills that I wouldn’t otherwise in a classroom.
Completing this internship whilst still studying full-time emphasised the opportunity and insight into a large
digital and talent agency, something my fellow classmates do not get. I would love to learn more on the
business side of things and also more content creation. Seeing more of how the Corporate Communications
division interacts and links areas of Gushcloud would have been eye-opening. Content creation for social
media would have given me an opportunity to practice my editing skills and creativity.
9. Evidence: Type of Tasks Allocated
15 Tasks were completed in total. This graph accurately represents the tasks in terms of category but not in terms of size/weight of the
task. Despite being the smallest, the collaboration tasks were the biggest.

10. CREDITS: This presentation template was created by Slidesgo, including
icons by Flaticon, and infographics & images by Freepik
This was my first task where I had to analyse Gushcloud’s current LinkedIn
and suggest better ways to format and communicate content. To do this, I
used the organisation AIESEC as an example case study to analyse what is
effective to engage audiences.
This was a difficult task first task to be given - an individual task, a short
turn (a day) and with no prior knowledge about LinkedIn.
Evidence: LinkedIn Revamp
11. Evidence: International Country Dates
This task required me to
research and compile national
holidays in all 11 Gushcloud
Countries. This was for the
social media team so they
could produce and release
content across all channels for
universal holidays *eg.
Christmas, New Year) or for
significant specific
country/religious events (eg.
Dragon Boat Festival).
It was a lengthy task but one
that was important for every
Gushcloud office.
12. Evidence: Social Media Series
Taf, Bea and I collaborated on
this task. We had to come up
with a social media series that
Gushcloud could repurpose
content across all digital
platforms. Our core idea was a
podcast with supporting
Instagram, Facebook and
Youtube profiles.
This was an interesting and fun
task because it was a
hypothetical series but we had
to think of the
behind-the-scenes operational
process (scheduling, hiring,
podcast hosts).
13. Evidence: Photoshoot Moodboard
The original moodboard
created for Gushcloud’s new
merch was not what Darlene
had envisioned. I was tasked to
research and compile poses in
a moodboard for this
photoshoot. I found a range of
images categorising them into
purpose, poses
(individual/group) and some of
my own ideas.
14. Evidence: Entertainment Portals
Taf and I worked together on this task to compile
information about the top 5 entertainment pages on
Facebook and the top 5 entertainment websites. We had to
analyse these channels for their audience engagement,
marketing strategy, branding, statistics and what type of
content did well.
It was challenging to use second hand data from different
websites not fully knowing how accurate it was. When data
contradicted we had to interpret it by reading other sources
such as articles.
15. This 10 week internship through the New Colombo Plan have been an incredible
learning opportunity. Thank you to the my supervisors Darlene Malimas
(Gushcloud) and Elaine Tay (Curtin) for facilitating and supporting us through
this experience. I am grateful for my fellow interns Bea, Taf and Sofia who I
worked closely with and made this even more enjoyable. Lastly to Gushcloud
International for partnering with Curtin University. This opportunity has been
insightful and more than a classroom could ever teach me. I strongly urge anyone
presented this opportunity to apply for the New Colombo Plan - it will truly
enrich your studies and university experience.
