The film pitch proposes a story that jumps between 1530 and modern day. In 1530, a young girl is accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death by burial. In the present, students use a Ouija board to contact the girl's spirit for a school project, but accidentally release her. The spirit seeks revenge on her killers by killing their descendants. She continues to haunt the children, leading to murder and suicide, until the boy who summoned her is drowned. The film would feature horror elements and tension inspired by movies like Carrie and TV shows like Witches of East End.
This is our final film idea which is a mystery thriller about a girl and her friends who investigate her relation to a girl murdered in the 1800's for witchcraft.

This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

2. What is it?..
My idea is that the film would be set in two different eras one in the modern society of today and the other in
roughly the year 1530. the film would firstly be introduced in 1530 when a young girl is accused of which craft, this
then leads to her being sentenced to death (buried alive as this was one of the punishments linked to which craft
of the time) the film would then jump forward to scenes of students sitting on a empty stage doing what it looks like
to be research the camera would then show a closer look at what they are doing. This shows that they are actually
researching the 1530’s for a school project. One of the children would then click on a link bringing up a page
about the girl similar to the one featured in the previous clips. But the computer starts to go fuzzy and the page
gets terminated leaving the screen black. The student are then un aware of what to do as the assignment is due
the next day and their computers have broken. One of the children jokingly suggests to do a Ouija board to
contact someone of that time to find out more about the era. To his surprisement the other students agree and
decide to meet back later with the board hoping to contact a spirit. They then meet up and successfully contact
a woman who states she died in the year 1536 on Saturday the 6th of June (this is symbolism as Saturday being the
6th day in the week, the date being the 6th and June being the 6th month of the year). The whole experience starts
to become more scary than they had expected, the room gets colder and the lights turn of the children know that
if they remove their hands from the board the spirit will be released. One of the more confident children decides to
ask one final question. Are you here? A pause is created as neither the children or the board move then all of a
sudden the lights switch back on and the young which is stood behind him she screams YES! And the children jump
in fear releasing her spirit who then decides to seek revenge on her killers by killing them. She continues to haunt
the children resulting in horrible things like murder and suicide when she finally gets what she wanted the film ends
when the boy who summand her is drowned. You suddenly hear her voice shakily saying are you here? As he
opens his eyes to reveal that they are black, and answers slowly yes..
3. inspirations
One of the main inspirations for this film is the 2013 Kimberly Peirce interpretation of the thrilling novel by
Stephen king. In this film there is a young girl with extraordinary talents, but this comes with deadly
consequences. The film is thrilling keeps your heart pounding and makes you feel connected to the
characters. This is what I want my film to do.
I also took inspiration when coming up with an idea from the lifetime TV series Witches of East End
produced by fox 21. it is now on the second series, I like the slogan and the poster of this as it leaves the
audience wondering. The opening to the episodes shows a flashback to the previous episodes before
the music tenses and the shot of the title is shown. I like the way the tension is built with the use of the
music and the clips before the title is shown this is also done in the opening scene of Carrie.
Another TV series I took inspiration from was the secret circle, although this show was cancelled half way
through the series it managed to build great tension in just the opening scenes by showing a clip of the
program then dramatically cutting to the title and playing the familiar whistling melody that starts and
finishes every episode. I like the idea of the creepy whistling melody and think it would be suitable for the
film opening.
And lastly I took huge inspiration from the new film Ouija this film is based upon a woman and a spirit. It is a
horror movie with many shocking twists. I don’t really know much about the film nut from watching the
trailer I realised that I liked the idea of using the board to contact the spirit and the spirit using it to her
advantage.
4. The title and font.
For the title I looked at other films that were simular to the one we would be creating and
saw that most of them were either 1 word or three, being short and snappy none of
them started with ‘the’ as it instantly made the fillm sound soppy and less serious. We
came up with a few initial idea and decided together on the best one.
We came up with…
When death cries.
Avis
Are you here?
Witch haunting.
When death cries?
Avis. (being the name of the witch/ghost)
We liked Avis and When death cries most because it doesn’t really say much about the
film but still has a horror feel to it.
5. The genre…
The genre of this film would be horror and this is shown clearly in the way each shot is
filmed for example lighting and angle. The begging of the film would be set around the
year 1530, as this is the time when things like which craft became a sin and people
including those who were innocent were horrifically murdered due to them being
accused of this sin. The films target audience due to the genre would be adults as some
of the content would be quite violent and inappropriate for the younger audiences. It
would probably be rated either 15 or 18 but that would be looked into once we started
filming.
6. Setting and time of day.
For the opening scene the setting would mainly be in 1530 in a dark woodland area with
a deep hole in the ground large enough to fit a body. But there would also be shots
where the setting is in 2014 at a school in the early evening. The film would be shown in a
almost sepia style where the brightness and the colours are almost dull like and not bright
this would be to make it feel more dark and scary.
