Nelson Mandela was a South African politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He fought against apartheid and racial discrimination his entire life, spending 27 years imprisoned for his activism. He influenced many through his courage and dedication, empowering others to continue the struggle after his imprisonment. • To bring plight of the black people in South Africa
• To fight against apartheid (which divided black and White people in South
Africa and kept them separate)
• In South Africa it grew to be a system of governance that discriminated
against black South Africans.
• . Nelson Mandela fought long and hard against this discrimination.

5. ABILITY TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE
• By standing up for what he believed in and dedicating most of his life and
safety to gaining justice.
• By teaching others that they are also people and should be treated like it.
• Stopped slavery and cruel punishments to Negro's and created a new and
fair era, were everyone had equal rights.
• Mandela stopped racism, apartheid and any controversies between the
whites and blacks.
• He fought for his country and the well-being of others.

• Nelson Mandela’s contribution and dedication to South Africa’s struggle in
achieving freedom and equal rights for every South African led to his
popularity, followership and respect in South Africa.

struggle, providing the inspiration needed for a drastic change.
• He planted the idea in the people that there was something they could do
about their situation.

South Africa. It was possible only because of his strong followership.

• It was a something Mandela perfected on Robben Island, where there was
much to fear. Prisoners who were with him said watching Mandela walk
across the courtyard, upright and proud, was enough to keep them going for
days. He knew that he was a model for others, and that gave him the
strength to achievement over his own fear.
• He did not only guide people but fought for their rights.
• He had courage to say NO, to NEGOTIATE, and to BRING A CHANGE.

• Mandela knew that he could not always be in front, and that his own great
goal could die unless he empowered others to lead.
• Mandela genuinely believed in the virtues of the team, and he knew that to
get the best out of his own people, he had to make sure that they partook of
the glory and, even more important, that they felt they were influencing his
decisions.

• Walking across the green hills above the village one morning not long ago,
Mandela recalled a lesson he learned as a boy, "When you want to get a
herd to move in a certain direction," he said, "you stand at the back with a
stick, then a few of the more energetic cattle move to the front and the rest of
the cattle follow, you are really guiding them from behind, That is how a
leader should do his work”

understanding of people in general. People need a positive role model like
Nelson Mandela, and for that reason it is important to keep his achievements
and successes alive.
