The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Personal Statement My name is Christa Baldwin. I was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida which is where I currently reside. When my interest in psychology first started I was interested in eating disorders and how to treat those who were affected by them. However when I was 18 I read in the newspaper about a young girl who had been sexually abused my a man who was described as a repeat offending pedophile. I felt a lot of sympathy for this young girl and her family and found it to be very saddening that the story sounded as if there was no hope in helping this man become a better law abiding citizen. No one appeared to think that he could ever be helped with this mental disorder. This is when my interest in forensic psychology developed. I decided that I wanted to one day work with those who others feel there is no longer any hope for.

4. Reflection Throughout my final two years of undergraduate studies at Argosy University I feel that I have improved greatly in my ability to effectively communicate with others on a more personal level through my learned knowledge of cultural sensitivity, respect for others as well as by improving on my critical and ethical thinking skills . I have learned how to better analyze situations and incorporate my perspectives into these areas, realizing that ethical practice must always be incorporated into every analyses and with every patient. Along with learning more in-depth into the area of ethics I have also became a lot more familiar with the area of diversity. I have come to understand that there are many benefits to learning about various cultures and practicing cultural sensitivity in order to decrease any possible biases through thoughts or beliefs. I also now feel more confident in my ability to collect and arrange information from various sources in regards to researching a topic. I have been improving with my understanding of research methods involved with the use of statistical tools and research designs, which I feel I will continue to become more comfortable with once I enter graduate school. I also feel that my communication skills within the area of delivering presentations, although good now, will become a lot better throughout my continuing years of graduate studies. However, when it comes to delivering communicative presentations through the use of writing I feel very confident that I am able to deliver concise and clear written work through the use of reports. Although there are many different types of psychological concepts, theories and empirical findings to learn, I find myself currently in a position to say that I feel that I have had a significant amount of exposure in regards to the all around knowledge of psychology and feel confident in entering graduate school knowing that I have had a great amount of knowledge dispersed on me throughout my final years of undergraduate school.
