The mutual fund industry in India, initiated by the Unit Trust of India in 1964, has evolved significantly and is governed by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). It encompasses various types of schemes aimed at pooling investor funds for investment in diverse financial instruments, and despite challenges, the industry is growing, nearing a size of Rs 8 lakh crore. There is an ongoing need for increased investor awareness and innovative schemes to further enhance sector growth.
