The Muslim League was formed in 1906 in response to growing Hindu nationalism and the Hindi-Urdu controversy. Prominent Muslims presented demands to the Viceroy for separate electoral constituencies and reservations for Muslims in government jobs and universities. This led to the establishment of the All India Muslim League in 1906 to represent Muslim political interests on an all-India level. The party was officially launched in 1907 with its headquarters in Aligarh and constitution adopted in Karachi in 1907.
