This music video pitch proposes to create a video for Lana Del Rey's song "Young & Beautiful" using three personas. The video would split between performance shots of Lana and narrative scenes telling the story of a wild teen relationship that ends in the girl's untimely death. 3. WHY?
Lyrics/meaning - meaningful and haunting and I think through a combination of narrative and
performance, we can create a music video that gives the song a deeper meaning than what it first appears.
Pace - The song has a slow pace which remains throughout, this will make it easier to edit and match the lip-
syncing
OriginalVideo/Potential narrative- as a music video on it’s own it is quite weak as it
has little/no narrative and is very easily forgettable.Therefore we can potentially create something better
Personas- has an array or characters/personas which I could use in my video
Male/Female representation- she is such an unusual artists in both style and theme, she has
very strong views towards female and male representations which will be interesting to explore in our video
Solo Artist- As she is a solo artist it will be simpler to find actors as we do not need 4/5 band members

4. INITIAL IDEAS
The video will be split between performance and narrative shots, incorporating some of
the character/personas from Lana Del Rey’s other music videos.The lines like “I’ve seen
the world, done it all” will be performed by Lana’s Hollywood icon persona (seen in the original
“young and beautiful” video and “National Anthem”) , speaking directly to the audience as if she
was narrating the story.The lines like “The crazy days, city lights” will be narrative scenes
showing Lana her most youthful, reckless state with her lover.These scenes will show her with the
man the song is about, they will be fun, wild and the scenes will show a loving but ultimately
destructive relationship with drug and alcohol abuse and lust/sex which results in the girls
untimely death at the end of the video. This will bring a huge amount of irony and sadness to
the lyrics as this girl has been worrying about aging when all along she didn’t need to as she was
going to die young. The persona used for these clips will be the ‘truck stop’/'biker’ girl featured in
the music video for “Ride” as she is the most appropriate.We will use a third and final character
who will only appear briefly throughout the video from a dream like location, dressed in white
symbolising the wisest, purest Lana (now in heaven) to foreshadow the death of the reckless Lana.
All these characters will be played by the same actress.

Why we chose her?
- Close friend (will be easy to contact and work with)
- Performing Arts student (she is very talented, her
life ambition is to become an actress, she does it everyday
and her passion will hopefully come out in our video)
-Confident motion and still photography (this is
important as she will appear in both the video and in photos
for the digipak/advert)
-Look (she is both attractive and young, two things the
song lyrics emphasize)
