Music Video Analysis
Shot

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop

Extreme Close up of girls face just to show her drinking.
Going to another girl doing the same.

Analysis

Doesn’t really show much in this
scene because the music video has
just started. It could be a montage
of small clips because it shows the
girl walking with the next girl shown
in the scene with the main singer
riding on a scooter.

“What, what, what, what…”

Does a jump-cut from handle bars to
this girl, then another jump-cut to
the next scene.

This would be a close up of a car called the de lorean then pans
to the left showing the car.

Analysis

This could explain more to
the lyrics in the songs
because this isn’t new car
and the song is about what’s
the point in wasting a lot of
money on clothes when a
“thrift shop” which has
similar styles.

Just music in the background.

There is no editing just jump-cut
to the scenes but it seems to
have a sepia look to it which
makes me think it looks a bit
vintage.
It does a mid-shot looking at the shows then goes to this shot of
the person talking about them.

Analysis

This shows that you need
expensive clothing to be
accepted in society as “cool”
not for having hand-medown clothes.

"Aw, he got the Velcros"

None edited really only
jump-cut to each scene.
