2. Mass Head
The masshead is used to draw attention to the magazine,
the mass head is located at the top of the page and is
dragged across the entire page to stand out to any other
text used on that page.
3. Coverlines
These are a short line of text that relates to the content within the
magazine. These are usually spaced around the main image and will
interest the audience.
4. Main Image Used
The main image used will usually be a band and the
magazine will have a main focus on them. So the main story
will be about the band on the front cover, they are a larger
image to interest the target audience and make them aware
of what the magazine is about.
5. Barcode, Issue Date & Price
All of these things are normally at the bottom of the page
out of the way so it is not blocking any important
information or detail on the cover page.
6. Background
A simple plain background is used so that the overlayers of
images and text will stand out and be seen clearly.
7. Splash/Puf
This is used to make the reader aware that there are additional
items within the magazine that they can get.
8. Colour Scheme
Every magazine has a certain colour scheme that will usually
consist of a small amount of colours (3-5). This is done so the
magazine looks neat and presentable.
9. Main Cover Line The main cover line is usually the name of the band that
is the main image, this is to make people aware of who
the artist is and that a big story will be inside the
magazine about them.
10. Website Link
Lots of magazines will offer a website link so that you can
look at additional information the magazine has online about
current and past events related to their magazine.
11. Positioning Statement The Kerrang magazine’s positioning statement is
within the rock industry and provides its audience
with all the relevant information that they desire.
12. Banner
A banner is normally used behind the masshead to make it stand
out compared to the rest of the page.
13. Sub Images
Sub images are used to show what other information
relates to this magazine and to make the target audience
aware of different bands who are a similar genre.
14. Quotes
Quotes are used to personalise the magazine as this quote will be
taken from the main images lyrics or from the artist themself.
15. Buzzwords Buzzwords are used to attract the audience and make them
more interested in the magazine.
