Daniel Levitin is an American cognitive psychologist, neuroscientist, author, musician and record producer born in 1957. He was interested in music from a young age and studied at the University of Oregon. Levitin dropped out of college to join a rock band and learned about the music industry. He later rejoined college to research the relationship between the brain and music. The text discusses how music and science are similar in their ubiquity and antiquity, and how studying them can teach us about ourselves.
