Nirvana was an influential American grunge rock band formed in 1987 by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. They released three successful studio albums between 1989-1993 to critical and commercial acclaim. Despite only releasing music for seven years, Nirvana came to be regarded as one of the most important alternative rock bands due to their popular and genre-defining style of punk rock. The band dissolved in 1994 after the suicide of lead singer Kurt Cobain at his Seattle home at age 27.
