Date: 14th November 2018
Location: Keynote Theatre
Time: 13:50 - 14:20
Speaker: Becky Smith
Organisation: Denodo
About: How many users inside and outside of your organization access your organization’s data? Dozens? Hundreds is probably more like it, each with their own structure and content requirements as well as different access rights. As a result, many organizations have witnessed the formation of “data delivery mills,” in various shapes and sizes. How does one create order and reliability in this world of chaotic data streams? Quite easily, if it’s done with data virtualization.
According to Gartner, "through 2020, 50% of enterprises will implement some form of data virtualization as one enterprise production option for data integration.” Data virtualization enables organizations to gain data insights from multiple, distributed data sources without the time-consuming processes of data extraction and loading. This allows for faster insights and fact-based decisions, which help business realize value sooner.
Join us to find out more about:
• What data virtualization actually means and how it differs from traditional data integration approaches.
• How you can connect and combine all your data in real-time, without compromising on scalability, security or governance.
• The benefits of data virtualization and its most important use cases.

[DSC Europe 22] The Making of a Data Organization - Denys HolovatyiDataScienceConferenc1
Data teams often struggle to deliver value. KPIs, data pipelines, or ML driven predictions aren't inherently useful - unless the data team enables the business to use them. Having worked on 37 data projects over the past 5 years, with total client revenue clocking at about $350B, I started noticing simple success factors - and summarized those in the Operating Model Canvas & the Value Delivery Process. With those, I branched out into what I call data organization consulting and help clients build their data teams for success, the one you see not only on paper but also in your P&L. In this talk, I'll share some insight with you.

How Schneider Electric Transformed Front-office Operations With Real-time Dat...Informatica Cloud
Many of the world’s corporations use Salesforce.com to drive their front office, and while most experience success others encounter roadblocks and difficulties as their Salesforce footprint grows. Countless customers suffer from a lack of up-to-date information which impedes business progress and stifles end-user productivity.
This presentation describes how Schneider Electric SE, a multinational corporation that specializes in electricity distribution, automation management and components product for energy management, used Informatica Cloud to improve the operational efficiency of their Salesforce.com front-office.
It also details how Schneider Electric was able to make key data readily available to Sales teams in real-time, on the right device, to ensure the success of a highly visible front-office integration initiative.

Your Challenge
Even though organizations are now planning for Application Integration (AI) in their projects, very few have developed a holistic approach to their integration problems resulting in each project deploying different tactical solutions.
Point-to-point and ad hoc integration solutions won’t cut it anymore: the cloud, big data, mobile, social, and new regulations require more sophisticated integration tooling.
Loosely defined AI strategies result in point solutions, overlaps in technology capabilities, and increased maintenance costs; the correlation between business drivers and technical solutions is lost.
Our Advice
Critical Insight
Involving the business in strategy development will keep them engaged and align business drivers with technical initiatives.
An architectural approach to AI strategy is critical to making appropriate technology decisions and promoting consistency across AI solutions through the use of common patterns.
Get control of your AI environment with an appropriate architecture, including policies and procedures, before end users start adding bring-your-own-integration (BYOI) capabilities to the office.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.

Empowering the Data Analytics Ecosystem: A Laser Focus on Value
The data analytics ecosystem thrives when every component functions at its peak, unlocking the true potential of data. Here's a laser focus on key areas for an empowered ecosystem:
1. Democratize Access, Not Data:
Granular Access Controls: Provide users with self-service tools tailored to their specific needs, preventing data overload and misuse.
Data Catalogs: Implement robust data catalogs for easy discovery and understanding of available data sources.
2. Foster Collaboration with Clear Roles:
Data Mesh Architecture: Break down data silos by creating a distributed data ownership model with clear ownership and responsibilities.
Collaborative Workspaces: Utilize interactive platforms where data scientists, analysts, and domain experts can work seamlessly together.
3. Leverage Advanced Analytics Strategically:
AI-powered Automation: Automate repetitive tasks like data cleaning and feature engineering, freeing up data talent for higher-level analysis.
Right-Tool Selection: Strategically choose the most effective advanced analytics techniques (e.g., AI, ML) based on specific business problems.
4. Prioritize Data Quality with Automation:
Automated Data Validation: Implement automated data quality checks to identify and rectify errors at the source, minimizing downstream issues.
Data Lineage Tracking: Track the flow of data throughout the ecosystem, ensuring transparency and facilitating root cause analysis for errors.
5. Cultivate a Data-Driven Mindset:
Metrics-Driven Performance Management: Align KPIs and performance metrics with data-driven insights to ensure actionable decision making.
Data Storytelling Workshops: Equip stakeholders with the skills to translate complex data findings into compelling narratives that drive action.
Benefits of a Precise Ecosystem:
Sharpened Focus: Precise access and clear roles ensure everyone works with the most relevant data, maximizing efficiency.
Actionable Insights: Strategic analytics and automated quality checks lead to more reliable and actionable data insights.
Continuous Improvement: Data-driven performance management fosters a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
Sustainable Growth: Empowered by data, organizations can make informed decisions to drive sustainable growth and innovation.
By focusing on these precise actions, organizations can create an empowered data analytics ecosystem that delivers real value by driving data-driven decisions and maximizing the return on their data investment.
