Math 7 Tutoring April 17, 2011
Objectives 1. The student will learn the order of operations. 2. The student will solve for equations. 3. The student will review perimeter, area and circumference.
Powers A power is a way of writing repeated multiplication. An exponent tells you how many times to multiply the base number Solve: 2^3
Order of Operations Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Solve: 2(3+5)
Equations An equation is a mathematical sentence formed by setting two expressions equal. The solution of an equation is a number that you can substitute for the variable to make the equation true.
Equations You can use mental math to solve some equations….for example: a+20=25 we know that a must be 5 to make this equation true Check your answer 5+20=25…is this a correct equation?
Equations Solving word problems A green sea turtle can swim at a speed of 20 miles per hour. How long would it take a green sea turtle to swim 80 miles? Distance = rt (rate x time) 80=20t 80=20 x 4 It would take 4 hours to swim 80 miles
Perimeter and Area Perimeter Rectangle: 2 l+2w Square: 4s 8in 4in 3in
Circumfrence Pi=3.14 pi x diameter pi x radius Ll Radius Diameter 3in 6in
Conclusion After viewing this presentation, the student will be able to solve problems of equations, perimeters, and circumferences.
