Multi-material forming mold stereo rotation technology

Multi-color and multi-material mold technology are generally divided into two categories: rotary
mold and non-rotary mold.
Non-rotary molds use the core back technology in the mold or the transfer of the part in the
cavity to achieve the second or third injection. The injection process is performed in sequence,
the molding cycle is long, the output efficiency is low, and the period If the part leaves the cavity,
the cooling deformation will affect the repositioning, and even the part falls off, which endangers
the safety of the mold.
In contrast, the rotary mold provides the possibility of simultaneous injection at multiple stations,
which has a higher molding efficiency. At the same time, the good heat conduction effect is
conducive to the fusion of materials and the quality of the product is higher. Therefore, the
rotation technology of various molds is widely used in multi-color and multi-material molding,
and through the standardization of the rotation device, the mold structure is further simplified,
the mold cost is reduced, and professional and efficient production is achieved.
According to the number of profiles of the mold itself, it can be divided into a common mold with
a single profile and a stack mold with a double profile (Stack Mould). The rotation mode of the
mold is therefore divided into the plane rotation of the single-layer profile and the
three-dimensional rotation of the stacked mold.
At present, the most common is the plane rotation of the single-face mold, and the two or more
cavities of the mold are rotated in a two-position (180 °) or three-position (120 °) on a single

core plate (Index Plate). The former is used for single-bread products, and the latter is used for
360 °three-dimensional rubber products.
As the size of the product increases, the size of the mold rotation device also increases. As far as
the mold plane turntable is concerned, many injection molding machines and mold
manufacturers currently provide a full range of products, with a turntable diameter from 400mm
to 1600mm and supporting injection molding machines from 100T to 1400T.
However, the excessively large turntable size and die rotation size still limit the application of the
product, and the cost factor cannot be ignored. Investment in a two-color machine with a size of
more than 1000T requires a high output balance and equipment utilization.
Therefore, the use of three-dimensional rotation of the stacked mold to achieve the formation of
large two-color products has become a better technical choice. Since the two parting surfaces of
the stacked mold overlap in the product injection projection area, the clamping force tonnage of
the equipment and the plane size of the mold can be reduced by half.
Although the thickness of the mold of the equipment needs to be increased by 20-30% because
of the rotation of the two profiles of the mold, for most injection molding machines, it is not
difficult to extend the rod or extend the body, and the cost is not high. So far, the automotive
industry is still the most important application field for stacked die stereo rotation.
Based on the three-dimensional rotation of the mold, four cube molds (Cube Mould) were
further developed.
During each mold opening process, the mold rotates 90 °, and the four profiles correspond to
four stations: injection molding at stations 1, 3; auxiliary cooling at station 2, processing inserts
(inserts), or placing labels ( IML); remove the part at station 4.
Cube mold is a very efficient mold technology. Although the mold cost is higher, the auxiliary
cooling and ejection of the product outside the mold can improve the output efficiency by
30-40%. Further combined with the High Cavitation Mould design, the application potential for
the packaging of disposable packaging and medical products is huge.
The three-dimensional rotation technology of the stacked mold represents the latest technology
development trend of current multi-color and multi-material molding. From the development of
independent mold rotation devices to the progressive formation of local mold matching
capabilities, it has been proven that technology has never existed for technology. The
development and update of each generation of technology must be based on demand and
continuously improve production efficiency. At the same time, continuously reduce investment
costs and operating costs.
