This document discusses different types of mountains including volcanic, fault-block, folded, and complex mountains. Volcanic mountains form from volcanic activity and can be shield or composite volcanoes. Fault-block mountains form from normal faulting in areas of tension and examples include the Sierra Nevada and Basin and Range province. Folded mountains like the Appalachians form from reverse faults and thrust faulting in compressional settings. Complex mountains have characteristics of multiple types and examples are the European Alps and Himalayas.
