This is a talk on how to create tooling and other management tips for your Microsoft Azure Subscriptions. It starts off with the Azure Service Management API, going over to the Microsoft Azure Maanagement Libraries aka MAML and then passing over to stuff that's build on MAML, things like the POwerShell cmdlets. Finally i talk about Azure Automation to create some automated tooling.
This is the Part 1 of the Azure Active Directory Topic. In this session I introduce the Azure AD and talk about what it is, how it differentiates with on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Further, in this session I provide demos on how to create Azure AD Users from the Azure Portal, associate Custom domains with the Azure AD tenant and the Azure AD PowerShell module. As a bonus, I also talk about and demo how to create additional Azure AD directory within the subscription.

St. Louis Day of .NET 2013 - Building Your Dev and Test Sandbox with Windows ...Adam Grocholski
What would you do with your own dev and test sandbox? In this session you will learn how to use Windows Azure to quickly spin up Virtual Machines in minutes to execute build and test automation suites. You will also learn how to establish a secure virtual network connection from your laptop to the sandbox, without requiring any additional hardware or requiring help from your friendly IT manager. Finally, we will discuss how to script and automate your own dev and test sandbox using command line tools or the Windows Azure management APIs.

Microsoft’s cloud, called Windows Azure, offers IaaS soloutions, but also, much more interesting, a PaaS solution for hosting of .Net, Java, Python, NodeJS and of course PHP sites. This presentation will go through some of the interesting services of Azure, what you can do with, and how you deploy to Azure. I will talk about cron jobs, auto scale, SSL, continuous deployment and much more.
Azure Key Vault with a PaaS Architecture and ARM Template DeploymentRoy Kim
This is a presentation I held at a local Azure user group. The session abstract: Azure Key Vault is a tool for securely storing and accessing secrets. We will go through a popular Azure PaaS Architecture pattern using Key Vault to store a password. I will demo and walk through the general configuration of a dedicated Azure Function app, Azure SQL and Key Vault that was deployed with automation. I will then go through fairly advanced techniques and best practices on how to deploy Azure Key Vault and a password secret with ARM templates. Finally, a very brief look at my Azure DevOps Pipeline to deploy the ARM template. You will come away with an understanding of an applied use case of leveraging Azure Key vault for a PaaS solution in better managing a password secret.

Keys are always needed to access services in Azure and beyond. Storing and managing keys presents many problems, for example rotating and disabling them. Keys often also allow blanket access to the service with no way to limit it. Sometimes there is only one key that needs to be shared by services, so you won't have any way to disable access from one individually. In this talk we will go through Managed Identities for Azure Resources, how they work, and how you can use them to use Azure services in a secure way without having to manage any keys yourself. We will go through a demo application which uses various Azure services through a managed identity, removing the need to use keys entirely. The source code will be available to the audience so they have samples that they can use to implement managed identities in their own applications.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
