Film Poster Initial Ideas and Final Product
Polly Pritchard created initial ideas and a final product for a film poster. The first idea featured evidence of murders from the film through a torn newspaper page revealing the protagonist's face. Feedback was that it didn't reveal the ending and hinted at the premise but seemed more like a teaser. The second idea featured both actors in the style of film noir posters but with a background image instead of color. One character would be in black and white and the other in color to create disconnect. The final product used the second idea and received positive feedback, though the production credits could be harder to read.

Images A majority of film reviews heavily feature stills from the film being promoted, commonly one image is featured for every film promoted, many of which are stills from the film rather than promotional stills or posters. Film images are usually equal size to the amount of text featured in the article. On some occasions smaller images/stills from the film are shown highlighting the supporting cast or even production team.
- 3. Film Name and Release Date The name of the film is usually featured several times throughout the review, most predominantly as the review title, as the largest text featured in the review. The release date is often featured in a smaller font, more subtle so not to distract from the premise and content of the film but in a bright enough colour or bold font to stand out, giving the reader the information they need.
- 4. Film Premise The film’s premise is usually explained in the first paragraph of the review. This usually explains the main characters, settings and the narrative structure of the film. By discussing this the reader becomes aware of the codes and motifs within the film, appealing to it’s target audience.
- 5. Verdict/Star System A majority of the mainstream magazine’s film reviews feature a star system, films ranked out of five and compared, influencing the value the audience places on the film. Other institutions may include a final verdict, the reviewer concluding the review with a final criticism and a judgment on the film’s value.
- 6. Actor’s credit The Actor’s are usually credited throughout the review, used to appeal to audiences, big names used to draw in crowds, their performances looked at in more detail due to their appeal to audiences.
- 7. Production Credits Most film reviews are concluded with a a billing block, crediting the director, screenwriters etc. Other details may include the running time, age rating and cast.
