This memorandum of understanding establishes a partnership between the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM) to promote sustainability in technical education institutions across India. AICTE will help engage its affiliated institutions, while IIWM will develop a methodology to assess, evaluate, and certify institutions as "Green Campuses" based on environmental compliance and waste management standards. The goal is to recognize institutions that qualify for certification under a scoring model that accounts for applicable sustainability parameters.

2. AICTE
It Is a Statutory Body of Ministry of Human
Resource Development , Govt. of India
,established under the All India Council for
Technical Education Act ,1987
The All India Council for Technical Education has
initiated a number of schemes , to improve the
quality of technical education and to motivate its
stakeholders for their active involvement in
various initiatives of Govt. of India such as –
’’Unnat Bharat Abhiyan ‘’, ’’Swachh Bharat ‘’
,’’Start-up India’’ and other Flagship Programmes
of the country.
3. IIWM
The International Institute of Waste
Management , a ‘Not-for-profit’ organization
working with the Government , community and
Stakeholders involved in implementation
support in the field of waste Management and
system establishment in the Environment
promotion ,Was established in the year
2009,as a trust ,under the ‘’India trust
Act,1882’’.
4. WORK
AICTE-The first party has the ability to reach
nearly all the Technical Institutes in India and is
keen to leverage Technical capacity of students
and institutions to help in building the Architecture
of an Inclusive India.
IIWM-The second party through its mission is
implementing a convergence framework for
measurable and effective outcomes on
parameters that transforms lives and livelihoods of
the country ensuring sustainable development
,with main focus on resource efficiency and
environment improvement.
5. PURPOSE
The purpose of this MOU is to work together to
bring a system of Environmental compliance
and waste Management system establishment
across all the institutions under the ambit of
AICTE ,as’ GREEN CAMPUS ‘certified
entities.
6. GREEN CAMPUS
All these facilities buildings, laboratories, library, staff
residences and student hostels, activity centers, canteen
consume resources like water, electricity, etc. and
generates different types of wastes and therefore can have
serious direct and indirect impacts on the environment
.Therefore, it is important to make these institutions comply
with the laws
(pollution control laws ) and also
make them environmentally
sustainable along with their
functioning as academic institution .

10. ACTION PLAN FOR THE
DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN
CAMPUS
A)Scope of Assessment and Certification Process-
I. To Design and develop assessment ,evaluation and
certification methodology for recognizing institutes
affiliated to AICTE as 'GREEN CAMPUS’’
II. To design and develop a scoring model including
applicable parameters that will be adopted for
evaluation and certification.
III. To recognize institutions which are qualifying to be
certified on an ongoing basis with appropriate
ratings.
12. B)Role of AICTE :
To facilitate IIWM in engaging with the AICTE
approved institutions across the country.
To support implementing Green Initiatives,
especially the waste management activities
within the campuses.
To enable formulation and maintenance of
norms and standards ,quality assurance
through accreditation in the field of waste
management and environmental norms.
To facilitate certification process of green
campus.
