in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan, by a young entrepreneur Berry Gordy Jr., in pursuit for better music
and society. With the signing of many culture–changing artists, such as Stevie Wonder and Gladys
Knight, Motown's influence in music and society has forever changed the lives of many. After their
move to Los Angeles in June of 1972, many artists signed to the record label either left, or moved
with the label to Los Angeles. This move to Los Angeles effected their sound, exploring other
genres. Even though their move to Los Angeles hurt their image, their effect on society was still felt
throughout the people. From the 1960s – 1970s, Motown Records established themselves as a major
contributor to African American culture by actively partaking in fighting against injustice, serving as
a social and industrial conciliator for unfaltering racial injustice existing throughout America, and
changing modern–day society forever.

Berry Gordy: Motown Berry Gordy was a man of vision, talent, drive, and determination. He was
also a songwriter, boxer, innovative entrepreneur, and producer. Berry Gordy was born on
November 28, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Gordy established Motown Records from a loan of $800
in January of 1959. Under his guidance, the sound of Motown became one of the most remarkable
and memorable musical accomplishments of the 20th century. Berry Gordy showed leadership and
legacy in American history because he built an independent entertainment that Motown itself

Hordy wanted Motown to be the "sound of young America," so he instructed his artists to focus on
universal things, such as loss and romance. He made songwriters use spiritual songs for inspiration
so they had a sense in what he wanted; it allowed records to attract to both, black and white,
audiences. Bill Barol noted, "Motown was instantly recognizable on a car radio or hi–fi: it was
sweet, soulful, polished but emotional. And always, without fail, there was the beat" (Barol). The
sound of Motown was so different, that it had a distinct sound whenever you heard the music
playing. Gordy was also applauded for the type of sound he was able to achieve since it was
appealing to the ear. His music made you feel good whenever you listen to the records. He also used
the same band in all his recordings, which enabled the company to produce records at any time
rather than having to wait for a band to be available. It gave the records a consistent sound which
was Motown's signature, and the company was soon nicknamed "Hitsville, USA." The sound of
young America that Gordy achieved appealed to young people of all races with the kind of music
that would keep some of the urban rhythm and blues, while still adding in other elements. Stanley
Brown states, "Gordy's true genius was to recognize that, above all, young America – black and

"What's Going On" defined a time in history where social unrest was at it's highest in the black
community. Police brutality was rife. Just like in the USA in 2015, one could argue that this problem
is still extremely prevalent. In the early 1970s, police were racially profiling young black males and

National Cranberry is a cooperative of berry growers around North America that share common
production facilities and for the last several years have been experiencing capacity bottlenecks
among other issues. After initial analysis, two main factors that contributed to a decrease in
production were found. The first issue in the business is that the supply trucks and drivers delivering
the harvest were not properly organized and there was not enough space and organization to allow
for smooth offloading of several trucks a day. The second major issue is the rampant absenteeism

berries which would further slow the overall process.
Assuming that the Kiwanee dumpers, dechaffing and de–stoning machinery were all working to
their full capacity of 4500bbl/hour, the increase to 70% wet berries would overload the driers within

Emerging out of the turbulent civil rights period in the United States, the majority of the black
minority population finally found a means by which to express their voice to the world through
music. This movement stemmed from two extremely different music studios located in opposite
regions of the United States. One of these companies arose out of the north, which very rigidly
rigidly controlled their product and polished young talent to fit an agenda. In contrast, its opposing
studio began in the deep south and was raw, unrestricted, as well as organic, choosing to let any

poem to show one way of dealing with death is to accept it. The nostalgic views of the speaker in the
poem shows the speakers' remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries

Gordy signed the group in the early 60's and immediately began making hits. One of their biggest
hits "Papa was a Rolling Stone" was a released in 1972 and was one of the longest songs of its time.
The song was written by Motown's very own Barrette Strong and Norman Whitfield. The actual

"What's Going On" is a song by American recording artist Marvin Gaye. The piece is ranked at #4

music is one of the most important politically charged songs of modern day music. The song has
