Monetizing Networks and Communities discusses various business models emerging around online communities, including ad-based, subscription, transactional, and blended models. Professional networks, knowledge sharing communities, expert networks, and crowdsourcing platforms are adopting different monetization approaches. The document also examines how community-based innovation is redesigning work processes and research & development. Issues around associations, member ownership, and disruptive players are covered.
With the Apple iPad at the core of its growth, the tablet industry is estimated to reach US$20 billion by 2014. Businesses that ignore this platform risk missing out on a critical mass of users.
From hotels and cafés to car dealers and customer service reps, the iPad has proved adept at fitting into many lines of business.
Join Ogilvy’s Brian Giesen and SmartCompany’s James Thomson as they dicuss the iPad.
This is a presentation made for a seminar organized by EU-China exchange program. It replied three questions. 1- why look at China? 2- What online media brings to China? 3- Sources of innovations?

1. The document discusses how internet and internet-enabled devices have impacted word-of-mouth conversations about brands.
2. While offline conversations are still the dominant form of social media, the internet plays an important role both before, during, and after brand conversations, with 94% of brand impressions occurring offline but the internet being the top resource used to find additional information after conversations.
3. Google directly informs over 146 million brand conversations per day, with search engines like Google being used more than any other site type, especially after conversations to learn more about brands that were discussed.
1. The document discusses the emerging trend of "LoSoPhoMo" among mothers, which combines location-based services, social sharing, and photo/video on mobile devices.
2. It notes that smartphone purchases and usage among mothers has greatly increased in recent years. Mothers use their smartphones and a wide variety of apps to help with tasks from pregnancy to childrearing.
3. Many mothers rely on their smartphones when shopping to compare prices, read reviews, get/redeem coupons, and review nutritional information. Brands and developers are encouraged to focus on the "LoSoPhoMo" trend when creating apps for mothers.
The document discusses the rise of social media and its implications for customer relationship management (CRM). It notes that over 180 million unique visitors access social media daily and over 600 million users are on social networks, with usage exceeding traditional email and search engines. As social network adoption increases across age groups, customers are more engaged and invested in social platforms. The document argues that companies must adopt social CRM tools to engage with customers on social media and gain insights from social conversations. It provides examples of early social CRM vendors and acquisitions in the space.
This document summarizes Paul Golding's presentation on mobile technology trends at the 2010 Eduserv Symposium. It discusses the evolution from Mobile 1.0 to Mobile 2.0, highlighting increasing processing power, usability and productivity of mobile devices. It also notes the proliferation of smartphones and growing mobile internet and app usage. Golding argues that mobile is becoming "everyware" and transforming how people organize their lives and interact in real-time through their devices. He envisions a future of augmented reality and an "Internet of Things" where most digital services are mobilized.
The document discusses big data and how cloud computing enables analyzing large, diverse datasets. It notes that most digital data is now unstructured and user-generated, and that data volume and variety are growing rapidly. The cloud allows organizations to flexibly scale their computing power to match the size and complexity of their data, enabling new types of analysis that were previously impossible.

- Nearly 60% of internet users would rather give up sweets than the internet. One in two own a smartphone and more than one in three access the internet with it.
- Users expect the same mobile content as on computers. Only 8% currently use tablets but 56% are interested.
- 22% own internet-enabled TVs but only 10% use the function. 85% go online while watching TV, with the TV in the background for two-thirds.
The document discusses how the rise of Web 2.0 has led to an explosion in the amount of informal and unstructured information being created and shared online. It notes that in 2008, more information was captured from social media and user-generated content than was formally recorded throughout history. However, this creates an environment of "information chaos" that is difficult to make sense of. The document proposes that concepts from chaos theory, such as observing patterns, embracing perspective over details, and leveraging the self-organizing properties of complex systems, can help to bring order and insight to this chaotic online information landscape.
The study found that (1) Fortune Global 100 companies are mentioned over 10 million times per month on social media, primarily on Twitter, (2) social media usage among these companies has grown significantly in recent years as more create accounts and engage with users, and (3) companies are increasingly creating original content and multiple specialized accounts to target different audiences and regions on diverse platforms like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+, and Pinterest.

The document also briefly discusses Future's digital newsstand and creative agency services.
This document promotes a social intranet solution from Jive Software. It summarizes that traditional intranets focused only on content without enabling collaboration, but social intranets add social features like profiles, groups, activity streams. This turns employees into information curators and addresses challenges like inefficient searching and information silos. Social intranets drive cross-department collaboration and have proven successful for customers like Alcatel-Lucent, Bupa, and CSC in boosting productivity, engagement, and information sharing. Jive offers an all-in-one social intranet solution with features for mobile access, Outlook integration, and prescriptive services.
Information Management on Mobile SteroidsJohn Mancini
The document discusses how mobility is driving major changes in information management. It notes that the world is reaching the dramatic change phase described in Moore's Chessboard fable. Mobile access has grown enormously and is becoming the primary access point for many. However, most organizations have not optimized their processes and systems for mobile. The document argues that information professionals will need to have a range of specialized skills and knowledge to help organizations manage information holistically across systems in this new environment driven by mobility and engagement.

It discusses the evolution from traditional media to social media, defines key concepts like enterprise 2.0 and personal branding. It then provides a step-by-step guide to using social media and concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding human psychology and empathy to effectively engage with social media.
This document discusses the concept of Enterprise 2.0, which refers to using emergent social software platforms within companies to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration. It argues that Web 2.0 principles like user-generated content, links, tags, and signals can be applied internally to better leverage the knowledge that resides in employees' heads but is not captured in centralized repositories. By cultivating a receptive culture and common collaboration platforms, companies can stimulate knowledge resources and gain a bottom-line advantage through more effective information consumption and problem solving.

Timmerer also presents provocative contributions of his own that have significantly influenced the industry. He concludes by looking at future challenges and invites the audience to join in a discussion.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
