WHAT IS MOOC
Mooc is an online, free course that accommodates everyone from diverse
backgrounds, mostly it does not look at what qualification you have.
Furthermore mooc is accessed with internet so if you want to be involved with
mooc you have to have internet available for you.
According to CoToNet (2014) “they are similar to university but do not tend to
offer academic credit” hence we need to be critical when joining one of the
online courses so as to engage in new experiences that allow a person to
grow and develop.
TYPES OF MOOCS
1. Connectivist approach : Which emphasizes learning that focuses on the
“learning process, with network construction and navigation, where
connections, interactivity, diversity, openness and autonomy are emphasized
•Two types of MOOC’s
2. Instructivist – Behavioural/Cognitivist (blended with constructivist)
approach With learning focusing on the learning outcomes and so are
basically content based, where learners are guided by the main instructors,
and are also assessed based on either the machine based assessment tools
or peer assessment.
