The student data driven life... every teacher's dreamNavigatingNerdies
Presented at the South Carolina Middle School Conference on March 1, 2014.
Come take a look at how we use student data to drive (and even detour) our instruction!
Introduction to Learning Analytics in BlackboardTimothy Harfield
Instructions for how to use and interpret the "Activity Compared to Others" feature in Blackboard. (Requires installation of Blackboard Analytics for Learn)
An app idea to facilitate feedback and improve student learningEldon Prince
This is an app idea I came up with to improve student learning.
What is the motivation for this app?
Students, who are the customers of education, have little input. Teachers, who heavily influence student learning, lack the data to improve teaching. Administrators, who can promote change, have little information.
The auris app is designed to facilitate feedback and serve as a powerful tool to empower students, enable teachers, and inform administrators.

I attended the Pittsburgh Summer LearnLab at Carnegie Mellon over the summer (2016). The work that I did over the week of the LearnLab went into this presentation. I conducted two linear regression models, two support vector classification models, a hierarchical clustering analytics, and a Latent Class Analysis.

Using real-time dashboards to improve student engagement in virtual learning ...Bob Bodily
In this presentation, I discuss the technical requirements for collecting learning analytics data in an open environment, the analytics system we have created to facilitate real-time data collection, screenshots of our student and instructor dashboards, and some statistical analyses conducted to improve our dashboards.

Designing, developing, and evaluating a real time student dashboardBob Bodily
We discuss the technical infrastructure needed to capture student data in an open learning environment (beyond the LMS), our iterative design process along with dashboard prototypes, and our dashboard evaluation results from focus groups and a survey.

Retiring Exam Questions? How to Use These Items in Formative AssessmentsExamSoft
Presented by: Dan Thompson, Manager of Instructional Design and Educational Technology, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences
As semesters come and go, new exams are created and used items are retired, never to be used again. While moving on to new exam items due to poor performing statistics or to ensure exam security are sound practices, these retired items can still positively impact student learning. Retired summative assessment items can serve new purposes as formative assessment items that engage students with course content while preparing them for course exams. This presentation addresses the process of using retired exam items in creative ways to develop formative assessments to increase student self-awareness of their content knowledge and improve student retention.

Moving Forward on Learning Analytics - A/Professor Deborah West, Charles Darw...Blackboard APAC
Learning analytics is a 'hot topic' in education with many institutions seeking to make better use of the data available via various systems. One of the key challenges in this process is to understand the business questions that people working in various roles in institutions would like to be able to answer. However, it is also important that these questions are appropriately structured and specific in order to gather the relevant data. This session builds on the workshop run at last year's Blackboard Learning and Teaching conference where participants explored business questions and use cases for learning analytics from a range of perspectives.
Delivered at Innovate and Educate: Teaching and Learning Conference by Blackboard. 24 -27 August 2015 in Adelaide, Australia.
This file accompanies the "Creating Assessments" session at the Academic Impressions conference titled "A Comprehensive Approach to Designing Online Courses", Dec 3-4, 2007, Austin TX
10. Survey/Polling Tools One of the most efficient ways to create active learning and assessment can be done with online survey and polling tools.
11. Survey/Polling Tools Gone are the days where you photocopy questions, distribute the forms, collect the forms and then spend hours tallying the results.
12. Survey/Polling Tools What was once relegated to pencil and paper can now be done easily online with free and easy to use online survey and polling tools.
13. Survey/Polling Tools These online tools let both teachers and students create multiple choice, matching, short answer, and other format questions.
14. Survey/Polling Tools Opinions can be gathered, votes can be collected, and results are able to be seen and shared virtually immediately.
21. Survey/Polling Tools Students create their own surveys Students can also use online surveys. • Students can analyze and reflect on their results by interpreting a graphical representation.
22. Survey/Polling Tools Educational Outcomes When students create their own survey, they must have a good understanding of the content and the task in order to form the correct questions.
23. Survey/Polling Tools Educational Outcomes They must also decide on the information they want to collect and pose appropriate questions which will retrieve this information.
24. Survey/Polling Tools Educational Outcomes Students can gain an understanding of how to interpret graphs. This activity could be extended further by asking students to create their own graphs.
25. Survey/Polling Tools Educational Outcomes This is a great way for students to reflect on their learning and evaluate their achievements.
