Flanagan, the largest independent food service distributor in Canada, sought to modernize its complex Oracle Forms-based order management application into a web-based system. With the help of Wavemaker, a low-code application development platform, Flanagan transitioned to a responsive web application that improved usability and shortened delivery cycles from months to just 7 weeks, all while leveraging their existing database. The application for order management at Flanagan was originally developed
using Oracle Forms 10g/11g and Oracle Fusion Middleware Application server.
For any logistics business, order management and delivery is the backbone
functionality and for Flanagan, Oracle form based applications running on
top of the Oracle Database powered this core functionality.
The business reasons for using Oracle DB were strong, but the forms
applications that were developed on top of it, were becoming redundant.
Additionally, the existing forms applications were tedious to maintain and
costly to upgrade due to a lock-in with the Oracle ecosystem. They were
looking for a way to modernize their platform without having lost their vital
database records.With WaveMaker they were able to quickly turn these form
applications into responsive web applications that can easily be extended to
mobile.

apps usability and shortened Flanagan’s app delivery and update cycles

WaveMaker’s UI templates and prefabs quickened the entire development
and helped reduce their time to market from many months to just 7
weeks. The new scalable web application did not add to their existing IT
burden in terms of people and infrastructure, thus adding value without
impacting existing costs of ownership. Additionally, the client also
leveraged WaveMaker’s Docker optimized deployment platform, to
increase utilization of their existing infrastructure.
Over the course of the engagement, members at Flanagan’s internal IT
team were able to use WaveMaker without hand holding, thus ensuring a
smooth transfer of operations to the client. Flanagan IT also picked up
most of the WaveMaker skills needed to manage and maintain app by
themselves, which has helped them keep the maintenance costs to a
minimum.
