Building Command-line Tools with the Tooling APIJeff Douglas
The Tooling API allows developers to build custom development tools for Salesforce. It provides similar functionality to the Metadata API but with a different execution workflow. The Tooling API can be used to automatically deploy code and metadata, keep orgs in sync, perform code analytics, manage validation rules and other metadata types, execute tests, and access debug logs and heap dumps. Developers can access the Tooling API via SOAP or REST interfaces depending on their preferred language and needs. The nforce-tooling module provides a simple Node.js wrapper for interacting with the Tooling API via REST.

This document discusses principles for effective API design. It defines an API as providing a way for developers to interact with and consume a service. It outlines six principles for API design: design first, choose the right runtime, define contracts, monitor usage, continuously improve, and socialize APIs. The principles emphasize designing for developers and specific use cases, ensuring scalability and reliability of the runtime, and engaging with developers through documentation and community. Well-designed APIs that follow these principles can become valuable products and ecosystems, while mediocre APIs that don't engage stakeholders may fail to meet business objectives.

Michael Maggio of CA Technologies gave a presentation about leveraging mainframe application services for rapid mobile application development. He discussed how enterprises are building new mobile and web applications that access mainframe systems and databases. CA provides products like CA Gen, CA App Services Orchestrator, and CA Unified Software Change Manager that allow developers to integrate mainframe systems into new cross-platform applications and deliver services to mobile users. The presentation provided an example of using these tools to build a hotel reservations mobile app that utilizes existing mainframe application logic and data.
Progressive web apps (PWAs) are a new type of application that combines the best of the web and the best of native apps. PWAs use newer web platform features and service workers to deliver app-style experiences to users. Some key benefits of PWAs include providing responsive and reliable experiences that load instantly and feel like regular apps to users, while also being able to reach users on any device via a web URL rather than an app store. PWAs aim to reduce the barriers between the web and native apps.

Are you a Project Manager still developing apps running into months and years?
Are you a Product Manager who still use mock screens to prototype a feature?
Are you a Software Consultant who is losing out to competitors due to lack of resources to execute?
Not just individuals, today even organisations big and small alike, struggle to keep up with the increasing pace of change intheir business requirements. They know that to keep pace with it, they must quickly build and deploy compelling web and mobile applications that connect with their customers, staff and other stakeholders in new and engaging ways.
The challenge, for many, is how? Recent study found that 85% of organisations want to deploy new apps faster yet only 18% have the means and ability to do so. All of which means over two thirds of organisations are failing to build and deploy the applications their business needs demand-a better way must be found.

This document discusses how Docker containerization was leveraged to power a large-scale, globally available Software as a Service (SaaS) platform serving over 3000 developers from over 125 countries. Some key points:
1) Docker provided process isolation, CPU/memory partitioning, volume partitioning, and file sharing which optimized resource utilization and allowed high density deployment of containers hosting user applications and data.
2) A container allocation strategy using Docker allowed new users to quickly obtain isolated environments while existing inactive users' containers were passivated to disk for later reactivation, improving efficiency.
3) Automated passivation and reactivation handled inactive users by hibernating their containers and restoring from disk on next request, while
Why is RAD imperative for modern app developmentWaveMaker, Inc.
This document discusses why RAD (Rapid Application Development) tools are important for modern app development. Traditional development tools use structured methodologies that are time-consuming and inflexible, making it difficult to respond quickly to changing business needs. RAD tools allow for faster development through templates, drag-and-drop functionality, and less code. They also enable iterative development and regular adaptation to changing requirements, making them better suited for today's agile business environment. RAD tools help foster enterprise innovation by allowing all employees to participate in app building and innovation.

Webinar: Designing a schema for a Data WarehouseFederico Razzoli
Are you new to data warehouses (DWH)? Do you need to check whether your data warehouse follows the best practices for a good design? In both cases, this webinar is for you.
A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:
- How to gather information about a business;
- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;
- Dimensions and facts;
- Setting a table granularity;
- Types of facts;
- Types of dimensions;
- Snowflakes and how to avoid them;
- Expanding existing dimensions and facts.
