App vs Web: Jon Marks Customer Day Presentation 2015KaldorLtd
The document discusses the differences between mobile apps and mobile web experiences. It notes that while apps traditionally had more capabilities, the lines are blurring as mobile web technologies improve. It argues we should compare apps and mobile web with an eye to evolving platforms, changing consumer behaviors, and the fact that capabilities are merging. Ultimately, it suggests building a mobile website first but also considering an app if your brand is strong, you can create usage habits, offline access is important, or you want a curated experience.
Mobile websites are becoming increasingly important for businesses as smartphone usage grows rapidly. Some key points:
- Over 250 million people in the US use smartphones, and mobile searches have grown 400% since 2010.
- Mobile users are local and often looking to purchase immediately - 95% search locally and 90% act within 24 hours.
- Having a mobile-optimized website allows businesses to reach 45% more prospects and provides a better customer experience.
- For most small businesses, a mobile website is preferable to a mobile app, as apps require large marketing budgets to gain downloads and usage that most small businesses cannot afford. Mobile websites work across all devices without downloads.

PhoneGap is an open source tool that allows developers to build mobile apps using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript instead of native languages like Objective-C or Java. It wraps the web view container to give apps access to device features like geolocation and accelerometers. While documentation is still maturing and bugs may exist, PhoneGap is free, open source, and offers developers a way to create cross-platform mobile apps without having to learn multiple programming languages. Sample PhoneGap apps and getting started resources are provided.

The future of mobile marketing and the benefits of web apps @ Riga Comm 2013webapptool
Presentation @ Riga Comm 2013 about the future of mobile marketing and the benefits of using web apps for companies. Webapptool is an online HTML5 toolkit to create web apps.
This document discusses 5 mobile app trends for 2016:
1. Web app experiences within native apps through hybrid designs.
2. Context-aware apps that utilize existing data to provide sophisticated automation.
3. Artificial intelligence as the new user interface through technologies like Google Now.
4. One dominant messaging app to facilitate communication across platforms.
5. Notifications becoming a new medium of information with constant updates.
The document advocates thinking beyond just the mobile app and focusing on the entire user experience.
The document discusses the future of mobile apps and the mobile web. It argues that HTML5 apps written using web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript could be deployed across multiple mobile platforms instead of native apps. These web apps would access device APIs for features like the camera and contacts but there are security concerns. It also suggests apps and data could be shared directly between devices using technologies like Bluetooth and SMS instead of app stores. The future role of app stores is uncertain as the web platforms grow to replace many native apps.
Your boss has an iPhone, so of course he wants an app. But does an app really make business sense? Or is a responsive design website enough?
And with hundreds of thousands of apps out there, what will make people choose and use yours? What makes a good mobile user interface? And how can you make sure your company actually delivers one?
Responsive design might make sense if you've got a content driven website. But how should your web team work together when every web page they are making needs to work at any width and resolution? And can you get the content under control to make pages that really make sense on small screens and big ones?
Gaming is becoming increasingly mobile, allowing people to game anywhere and anytime on their mobile devices. The mobile gaming industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, fueled by advances in mobile hardware, high-speed networks, and distribution platforms like app stores. Popular mobile games like Angry Birds have achieved over a billion downloads. The future of mobile gaming includes advances like cloud gaming which will allow gaming from any device, as well as more immersive gaming experiences that integrate social and educational elements.

Jon limjap of Readify on Cross Platform Solutions for Mobile Applications at ...DEVCON
This document discusses cross-platform mobile application development. It begins by outlining the benefits of cross-platform development such as not needing to learn multiple platforms, being able to deploy apps everywhere, and leveraging existing skills. It then describes different cross-platform approaches like using a single framework or building with HTML5 and PhoneGap. The document also examines whether cross-platform development truly works based on comments from companies like Facebook and LinkedIn. It concludes by advising developers to consider whether they need a mobile website or true mobile app when deciding if cross-platform is right for their needs.

This document summarizes the journey of a programmer from the 1980s to present day as a mobile app developer. It describes how he started programming in college using Basic and created accounting programs. In 1995, he began programming professionally but took a break to farm before returning to create a web app in 2010. He tried building Android apps but found iOS development easier due to its stable and secure platform. After learning Xcode, he ported his existing system into an iOS app. His journey came full circle from programming on 1980s Apple clones to now building mobile apps on Apple devices 35 years later.

This document discusses how map applications (#mapbots) have advantages over chatbots for providing helpful information to users. It proposes that #mapbots could passively detect user behaviors through mobile sensors to predict intents and needs, and then provide seamless experiences without requiring direct user input. Examples of potential #mapbot features are given like automatic driving time estimates, remembering parking spots, and notifications about traffic or delays. The document advocates for map platform companies to open their platforms and leverage sensor data through tools like the Axon Vibe SDK to enable helpful #mapbot innovations.

Voxxed Days Trieste 2024 - Unleashing the Power of Vector Search and Semantic...Luigi Fugaro
Vector databases are redefining data handling, enabling semantic searches across text, images, and audio encoded as vectors.
Redis OM for Java simplifies this innovative approach, making it accessible even for those new to vector data.
This presentation explores the cutting-edge features of vector search and semantic caching in Java, highlighting the Redis OM library through a demonstration application.
Redis OM has evolved to embrace the transformative world of vector database technology, now supporting Redis vector search and seamless integration with OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, and LlamaIndex. This talk highlights the latest advancements in Redis OM, focusing on how it simplifies the complex process of vector indexing, data modeling, and querying for AI-powered applications. We will explore the new capabilities of Redis OM, including intuitive vector search interfaces and semantic caching, which reduce the overhead of large language model (LLM) calls.
What to do when you have a perfect model for your software but you are constrained by an imperfect business model?
This talk explores the challenges of bringing modelling rigour to the business and strategy levels, and talking to your non-technical counterparts in the process.
Why Apache Kafka Clusters Are Like Galaxies (And Other Cosmic Kafka Quandarie...Paul Brebner
Closing talk for the Performance Engineering track at Community Over Code EU (Bratislava, Slovakia, June 5 2024) https://eu.communityovercode.org/sessions/2024/why-apache-kafka-clusters-are-like-galaxies-and-other-cosmic-kafka-quandaries-explored/ Instaclustr (now part of NetApp) manages 100s of Apache Kafka clusters of many different sizes, for a variety of use cases and customers. For the last 7 years I’ve been focused outwardly on exploring Kafka application development challenges, but recently I decided to look inward and see what I could discover about the performance, scalability and resource characteristics of the Kafka clusters themselves. Using a suite of Performance Engineering techniques, I will reveal some surprising discoveries about cosmic Kafka mysteries in our data centres, related to: cluster sizes and distribution (using Zipf’s Law), horizontal vs. vertical scalability, and predicting Kafka performance using metrics, modelling and regression techniques. These insights are relevant to Kafka developers and operators.
Penify - Let AI do the Documentation, you write the Code.KrishnaveniMohan1
Penify automates the software documentation process for Git repositories. Every time a code modification is merged into "main", Penify uses a Large Language Model to generate documentation for the updated code. This automation covers multiple documentation layers, including InCode Documentation, API Documentation, Architectural Documentation, and PR documentation, each designed to improve different aspects of the development process. By taking over the entire documentation process, Penify tackles the common problem of documentation becoming outdated as the code evolves.
