The document discusses the importance of having a mobile-friendly website for businesses. It notes that mobile usage is growing rapidly and will soon dominate local searches. Users are more likely to take action from mobile searches than desktop searches. However, only 26% of local businesses currently have a mobile-friendly site. The document then provides best practices for creating a mobile-friendly website, such as using a responsive design, keeping it simple, designing for touchscreens, and testing the site on mobile. It emphasizes that a mobile site can help businesses stand out, improve the user experience, and potentially increase new customers and sales.
Designing Websites With a Mobile First ApproachDan Moriarty
The document discusses the concept of "mobile first" design, which means prioritizing mobile users by starting the design process for any digital product or service with the smallest screens in mind. It outlines three common approaches to designing for mobile (native apps, separate mobile sites, and responsive web design) and their tradeoffs. The key to truly mobile-first design, it argues, is rethinking content, presentation, and performance with mobile constraints and capabilities top of mind to ensure usability, focus, and speed across all devices.
Pete Amundson, One North Architect, and Jessica DeJong, Art Director, discuss how mobile has impacted users and their behavior across digital marketing platforms.

Going mobile - Highed Web Presentation - 2011Nathan Gerber
Nathan Gerber is the Director of Web Development Services at Utah Valley University. He gave a presentation on mobile web strategies for higher education institutions. Some key points from his presentation include:
- Mobile internet usage is growing rapidly and will impact how institutions provide online content and services.
- When developing a mobile strategy, institutions should focus on key information and services for current students, start small, and be willing to iterate based on what works.
- Content management systems need to support multi-format publishing and content reuse across desktop and mobile. Mobile-specific templates and tagging can also help.
- QR codes, browser sniffing, analytics, and testing on emulators can help institutions test and improve their mobile offerings.
Mobile websites provide several key advantages:
1) They allow for instant marketing and advertising, which is essential for businesses to survive competition given popular demand for mobile access.
2) They enable precise delivery of search results and information due to limited mobile screen space.
3) They provide opportunities to stream live and recorded media content to users on the go.

Cam Fortin discusses the considerations around whether to develop a mobile site or app for Wine.com. Some key factors are the type of products sold, how customers engage with the brand, and functionality needs. Wine.com chose to develop an app for iPad to take advantage of its features, but created a responsive mobile site for phones to provide a cohesive experience across devices. A responsive design allows content to be accessed on any screen size and helps with search engine optimization by avoiding duplicate content across platforms.
The document discusses the importance of mobile optimization for law firm websites. It notes that mobile devices now outnumber PCs and global internet users are doubling, mostly through mobile access. Over half of Fortune 500 companies and a quarter of the top 100 law firms now have mobile-optimized sites. The document recommends justifying a mobile budget based on site analytics showing mobile traffic growth. It outlines options for mobile friendliness from a static mobile site to responsive design. The best approach is responsive design using a mobile-first strategy and focusing on key tasks for different devices.
Web Apps and Responsive Design for LibrariesMatt Machell
This document discusses responsive web design for libraries. It argues that responsive web design, which creates a single website that adapts to different screen sizes through flexible grids and media queries, is the best approach for libraries to take for their mobile presence. Native apps, separate mobile sites, and other approaches each have drawbacks, as they require more maintenance and do not allow for a unified experience across all devices. The document advocates for a responsive design that can provide a quality experience on any device using existing web skills.
Incorporating Mobile Into Your Digital Experience Strategyrivetlogic
Mobile web traffic continues to increase and in some cases is surpassing that of desktops. Bill McCluggage - Government's Drive For The Adoption of Open Standards and O...Squiz
Bill McCluggage, Director of ICT Strategy and Planning at the Cabinet Office, has overall responsibility for the formulation, development and communication of cross-Government ICT strategies and policies. He spoke about the Government's commitment to open standards, the challenges they are facing and their strategy to deliver real changes. Many of the issues Bill talked about are covered in the latest UK Government ICT Strategy, released just this week.
The document discusses the importance of effective search and having a "SearchMaster" to oversee search effectiveness in an organization. It provides examples of costs organizations face due to poor search and lists some of Funnelback's customers in the UK. It then outlines five types of tools that a SearchMaster should have access to in order to improve search quality: 1) a basic search tool, 2) a tuning tool to fine-tune search rankings, 3) spelling suggestion tools, 4) query expansion tools, and 5) reporting and alerting tools.
The Searchmaster's Toolbox - David Hawking, Funnelback SearchSquiz
David Hawking, pre-eminent information retrieval researcher and Funnelback's Chief Scientist, gave this talk on the need for a Search Master within all but the smallest organisations at a Funnelback Seminar in London on March 31st, 2010. Even if there isn't an individual with that specific job title, the responsibility for maintaining, improving and monitoring search needs to be prioritised and clearly assigned. David's presentation covers the reasons why search is so vitally important and the tools which can improve search results.
The Electoral Commission And Funnelback SearchSquiz
Chrystyna Chymera, Corporate Communication Officer at the Electoral Commission, presented this case study of their recent search project and implementation of Funnelback website search at a Funnelback Seminar in London on the 31st of March 2010.
It includes an overview of the initial requirements the organisation had for their search solution, both in terms of their business objectives and their Freedom of Information request responsibilities. As an organisation with a great deal of information and a broad range of users, they needed a search engine which could offer excellent results out of the box, as well as the ability to prioritise results and tweak rankings.
A comparison of their previous search solution's results page against the improved Funnelback version provided a great demonstration of the usability and functionality features of Funnelback.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
