Missions Ministry Team
Ministry Council of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church
Title: Manager, Finance and Administration
Status: Full-time
Accountable to: Team Leader, Missions Ministry Team
Purpose: The purpose of the position is to provide administrative services to the Missions
Ministry Team and to serve as financial manager to the Ministry Council/Ministry
Teams.
Responsibilities:
1) Missions Administration:
a) Manage general office files and correspondence;
b) Train administrative and support staff on office equipment use, and train support staff in other
areas as necessary;
c) Process all incoming Missions mail not addressed to a particular individual and all incoming mail
opened and forwarded by others;
d) Run Raiser’s Edge queries to obtain lists for Missionary Messenger, Builders Fellowship, Loaves
and Fishes, Gift to the King, One Great Hour of Sharing, mission chairs [local and presbyterial],
Women’s Ministry local presidents, Elected Team Members, etc.);
e) Serve as editor and proofreader for the Missionary Messenger, and proofread all other Missions
materials to be printed or placed on the web site;
f) Coordinate mailings for special observances including preparation of materials and
coordinate any temporary personnel or mailing services vendor;
g) Oversee part-time or temporary personnel whose responsibilities may include maintaining mailing
lists in RE, sending out resources upon request, ordering office supplies, providing clerical
assistance when needed. Receive timesheets and pay part-time and temporary personnel;
h) Serve as recording secretary for the Missions Ministry Team at its meetings, providing minutes for
distribution to members and staff and recording minutes in a permanent book;
i) Serve as a member of the Missions Ministry Team staff, attending staff meetings and assisting
with follow-up on assignments;
j) Serve as Acting Team Leader of the Missions Ministry Team in the inability of the Team Leader to
function due to illness or an extended absence, after consultation with and on the approval of the
Director of Ministries, with the program staff of the Team serving as an advisory council;
k) Attend meetings of the General Assembly, on the approval of the Team Leader, and fulfill
responsibilities as assigned by the Team Leader;
l) Attend meetings of the GMLT as requested; and
m) Serve as Missions Team representative, including those occasions when travel is required, when
requested by the Team Leader.
2. Ministry Council/Ministry Team Finance:
a) Review proposed MC/Ministry Team financial plans for completeness, accuracy, conformance
with established procedures, and organizational objectives. Analyzes, advises, and provides
technical assistance in preparing budgets and financial objectives;
b) Receive and code checks or other income for MC Admin and all Ministry Teams, post all
payments in Raiser’s Edge, print batch report to send to Central Accounting with the checks for
deposit;
c) Receive all Ministry Council and Ministry Teams check requests and travel reimbursements,

check coding for accuracy;
d) Keep updated spreadsheets on specific funds as requested by the MMT Team Leader, i.e.
Loaves and Fishes, Gift to the King, One Great Hour of Sharing, Builders Fellowship, mission
trips, etc.;
e) Maintain spreadsheets on various projects throughout the Ministry Council, i.e. CPYC, YEC,
Children’s Fest, etc., analyze data and seek new ways to improve efficiency and lower costs;
f) Maintain the acknowledgment letter file in Raiser’s Edge for MMT, updating letters periodically as
needed. Provide support for staff who mail these letters;
g) Deposit salary/benefit checks to the personal accounts of missionaries as requested, and forward
salary/benefit schedule and/or reports as necessary to them;
h) Run MMT Field Reports at the end of every month and determine funds to be sent to
missionaries, presbyteries, etc.;
i) Prepare check requests and initiate wire transfers through the international or domestic wire desk
of the Center’s designated bank; and
j) Serve as one of the signatories for the designated bank account;
3. Other responsibilities:
a) Serve on the Raiser’s Edge Group for the Center.
b) Perform other financial/administrative duties to the MMT Leader as requested.
c) Provide services as requested by the Director of the Ministry Council.
Experience and Education Requirements:
1) Experience of at least two years in a comparable position.
2) A bachelor’s degree and two years management experience.
3) Training/experience in basic accounting.
4) Computer proficiency in such programs as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Raiser’s Edge, Financial
Edge, Crystal Reports, Adobe Acrobat.
Special Requirements:
• Fast and accurate word processing and familiarity with computerized records management;
• Proficiency and speed in data entry and almost all computer uses;
• Proficiency in the use of office equipment, electronic scales, postage machine, etc.;
• Basic accounting ability;
• Knowledge of and good skills in public relations;
• Accuracy and good command of English grammar, verbal and written, as well as writing and editing skills;
• Initiative and ability to work without close supervision and at times under pressure;
• Working knowledge of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, including its polity and
structure; and
• Collaborative spirit to strengthen the work of all Ministry Teams and the Ministry Council.
Special Working Conditions:
• Will maintain an office in the Cumberland Presbyterian Center, Cordova, Tennessee.
• Will share in all responsibilities of Ministry Council staff.
• Terms of employment, other than salary, will be detailed in the Ministry Council’s Personnel
Handbook made available at the time of employment. These terms include all benefits, such as
vacation and sick leave, medical insurance, office hours, etc.
• Salary will be determined at the time of employment and will be set forth in a memorandum
confirming employment.
