Segregation on History
  Civil war: Northern States vs. Southern
    ●

States due to the conflict of the abolishment of
                    slavery.
●       Northern States won and 14th amendment
             was passed and slavery finished.
Separate but equal
●   This legal doctrine meant that colored people
     had the same rights but they couldn't mix
                  with white people.
●   Really, colored people were treated as if they
                 were a lower class.
Non-conformist
●   Silent Parade in 1917: movement protest the
      violence on anti-black riots in Illinois
●   Bus boycott in 1955: protest the segregation in
                  public transport.
           ●   Washington March in 1963
Standing up by sitting
●   Rosa Parks refused to leave her seat to a white
             man and she went to jail.
     ●   Civil rights demonstrators started a bus
              boycott that lasted 381 days.
Step by step
●   Because of these movements, the Supreme
    Court declared the segragation in public
         transport unconstitutional.
    ●   This was an important steps to reach
             equality, regardless color.
Discovering a national hero

                 Alabama, on the
                 southeast of the

His models
      ●    He was the first son
            of Martin Luther
          King Sr and Alberta
           Williams King. His
          father was a baptist
          pastor and his mother
           was schoolteacher.
Living segregation
    ● In his youth, he
       experienced the
    segregation himself.
●   At six , two children
    told him that they
    couldn’t play with
    him because he was
           colored.
Formation
●    He started school at
    5, at 18 he entered at
     Morehouse College.
     He studied theology
    and sociology. He also
         obtained the
         doctorate in
         Philosophy.
Baptist Minister
●   In 1954, he became
     pastor of Dexter
     Avenue Baptist
        Church in
      Montgomery,
        Alabama.
● He's been always a
strong fighter for civil
 rights for members of
        his race

          my four little
     children will one day
         live in a nation
      where they will not
     be judged by the color
       of their skin but by
       the content of their
            character.

●   Because I've been to the mountaintop.
     I don't mind. Like anybody, I would
     like to live a long life; longevity has
    its place. But I'm not concerned about
    that now. I just want to do God's will.
      And He's allowed me to go up to the
     mountain. And I've looked over. And
           I've seen the Promise land.

       ● He fought for the
         human rights. He
       inspired in Mahatma
         Gandhi and about
       the civil disobedience
          of Henry David
              Thoreau.
Enemies
          Because of the

           Boycott, the
       situation became so
        tense that King's
      house was bombed. He
       was arrested during
          this campaing.
Shotdown
    ●     At 6:01 p.m., April 4,
        1968, a shot rang out as
          Martin stood on the
          motel's balcony. His
        murder was James Earl
              Ray, a white
             segregationist.
Nobel Peace Prize
● On October 14, 1964, King
    became the youngest
recipient of the Nobel Peace
 Prize, which was awarded
   to him for leading non-
violent resistance to racial
     prejudice in the U.S

    complete equality.
