Prerequisite Coursework and/or Skills:
MKTG 303 Principles of Marketing, or basic background in marketing.
Course Learning Objectives-CLOs:
The purpose is to introduce you to fundamental aspects of international marketing. We cover much of the core knowledge
used in decision-making and operations in international marketing. The purpose is to acquire knowledge and understanding
of the fundamental dimensions of international marketing.
Upon completion of this course, the course participant should be able to do the following:
• Understand the differences between domestic marketing and international/global marketing aspects.
• Recognize the impact of cultural dimensions on marketing-related issues.
• Identify market opportunities in the global markets.
• Recognize legal and ethical issues associated with the practice of marketing.
• Become more effective critical thinkers.
• Develop better analytical and writing skills.
• Efficiently work with and communicate ideas to team members and/or class participants.
Means For Achieving The Objectives:
Quizzes, discussions, exams, and group assignments/ projects are the primary instructional methods used to facilitate
student learning in this course. Learning is encouraged through active participation during group assignments. To assist
students, an Academic Survival Kit with resources on writing and presentation skills is available on the College web page
at http://business.nmsu.edu/students/survival-kit/.
Information on the group assignments will be available via Canvas.
Course Format:
1. Read all assigned materials - chapters from the text and assigned readings, complete the team homework if assigned and
post to “Discussions” in Canvas. Also go to the “Discussions” section and review the written work of selected teams.
2. Review lecture slides – many slides contain a written discussion of the visual displays.
3. Review chapter quiz and key terms at the end of each text chapter.
4. Take quizzes: Each quiz is to be taken during a specified time window [30 minutes]. You can take each quiz twice with
your highest score counting towards the quiz grade. Quizzes and exams cover all the assigned materials, text chapters,
assigned readings, and lectures. Note: all quizzes and exams are open book, open notes, but are individual effort. The
midterm and final exams will be open on specific dates for 24 hours only. Quizzes will be available on a more flexible
schedule for several days for you to take.
One quiz with the lowest score will be dropped. Apart from one, don’t leave any quiz undone. You might see your grade is
around A/B level and you might think it will be okay if you just leave some quizzes undone. Canvas calculates
percentage to indicate A/B/C level. Those unsubmitted/ungraded are not taken into account. Once I put zeros to those

missing, your score is likely to drop significantly if you leave them undone. In Canvas > Grade you can try putting "what
if" grades into each cell to check the consequence if you got zeros for some undone. The Canvas system will be closing
the whole course after the semester end, so you won't get further extension for quizzes and exams.
5. Group assignments:
The class is divided into study teams, each consisting of 2-3 members (group memberships have been posted on Canvas
under People > Groups). You can find your teammates' email addresses either through the People tab or the Inbox tab.
There are a total of 8 group assignments, and each group is assigned to complete 2 out of the 8 assignments.
For the assignments not assigned to your group, please refrain from uploading any files on Canvas, even though the
platform may alert you about their due dates. Leave the assignment channel blank. Under Canvas > 317 > Discussions, I
will post the submitted work of other groups, and I encourage you to read and discuss their work. Engaging in meaningful
discussions, both asking questions and providing answers, will earn you extra points. However, please note that this
activity is optional and will not directly impact your grade.
For the assignments assigned to your group, please submit the written homework to the instructor via Canvas by 10 AM on
the due date. Attach the homework in Microsoft Word format, and name the file as "Group 1 - Assignment 1.doc" (replace
"Group 1" with your actual group number and "Assignment 1" with the respective assignment number). Each group
member should upload the same file to the channel under Canvas > 317 > Assignments.
The page limit for the assignment is 4 pages, excluding references. Please use single spacing and Times New Roman font
with a 12-point size. Times New Roman font type should be applied to ALL TEXTS, including your names, titles,
citations and page numbers.
Utilize paragraphs, headings, bold text, underlines, and italics to emphasize key points.
APA style should be followed for citations. As many online APA generators are incorrect, I suggest you to manually check
the official cite of https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references for correct APA citation formats
according to their sources.
It is expected that all written assignments will go beyond assigned readings and the questions. This means that you must
have at least 4 references beyond the required readings if you expect and A for the assignment.
At the beginning of the document, kindly include the assignment number, group number, full group member names, and
who are absent from this assignment if any. If possible, you may also indicate which part of the assignment each member is
responsible for. In case of unresponsiveness from any group member, please report the issue to me with supporting
evidence. Additional time will be provided for completion individually, and points will be deducted from the group
members in such cases.
Please note for later assignments, you are expected to incorporate knowledge from ALL previous materials (PPTs, quizzes,
readings, and other groups' works). Therefore, I don't suggest jumping into them too early before you completed related
readings and quizzes.
For group assignment, when it is assigned to your group, everyone please submit a copy. Though later submitters may be
told by the system that someone in your group have submitted it, and that you may see a 100% plagiarism alert. Please
do me a favor to resubmit a copy from every member that participated. This is to help me mark who should get a score
while other groups who did not submit anything would not receive any score. Also those individuals who are not
responsive to their group members would not receive any score even though the system marked their groupmate
submitted the work.
Please be aware that AI writing scan is incorporated into Turnitin. Using AI writing (like ChatGPT) may result in a high
plagiarism rate. Any work (except resubmission) with plagiarism rate above 25% will receive a zero for the work.

[3] SUGGESTED: You might regularly consult: The Economist [http://www.economist.com The Wall Street Journal
[http://www.wsj.com Financial Times [www.ft.com], Asia Times [http://atimes.com], New York Times, BusinessWeek,
Fortune, etc. to acquire broad general knowledge, get familiarity with current global marketing events, obtain
comprehensive coverage of business events, and develop a strategic management perspective. For subscribed contents,
you can use our library “log on to request it” and get pdfs for most of the articles.
You are welcome to bring any interesting news items that you find, related to the objective of the class, to the discussions
in our Canvas > Discussions.
[4] Recommend: “Boise State University College of Business & Economics Writing Styles Guide,” August 2007 – posted
on Canvas homepage for this course.
1 There is a total of 13 quizzes – 11 worth 40 points each and 2 worth 80 points each – for a total of 600 points; the system
drops the quiz with the lowest score from grading, essentially taking into account only the top 12 scores from 13 quizzes to
help you improve the grade.
2 On a 1-10 scale, where 1=minimum and 10=maximum.
Course Grading:
A=1314+ points
B=1168-1313 points
C=1022-1167 points
D=876-1021 points
F=below 876 points
Notes:
1. Dates for examinations, quizzes, and assignments are fixed, unless instructor’s notice through group email. Please
schedule your personal absences so as not to conflict with your participation. For late submissions there is a 5% per day
penalty.
2. To avoid “free riding”, students are encouraged to evaluate the contribution of their group members to the group
assignments (before the last day of the class). The grade for the group activities will be adjusted for each individual by the
score received from peers.
3. Failure to complete the work as assigned will result in course failure. Any student found to be cheating or plagiarizing
others’ work will not receive a passing grade for the assignment. Canvas utilizes plagiarism scanning technology to
analyze submitted works. In cases where a group or individual assignment surpasses a plagiarism score of 25%, a zero
score will be assigned for the corresponding assignment.
4. If you have, or believe you have a disability, you may contact the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Office located in
Corbett Center, Room 244, 575-646-6840, or email sas@nmsu.edu. Appropriate accommodations may then be provided
for you. All medical information will be treated confidentially. If you have a condition which may affect your ability to
exit safely from the premises in an emergency during class, you are encouraged to discuss this in confidence with the
instructor and/or the Director of University Disability Services/ADA Coordinator, Diana Quintana, at the SAS Office.
Questions regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or the American with Disabilities Amendment Act
should be directed to the SAS Office. Questions regarding NMSU's Non-discrimination Policy and discrimination
complaints should be referred to Gerard Nevarez, Office of Institutional Equity, 575-646-3635.
