As momentum picks up, the odd change request always appears, databases are slingshot hither and yon, while everyone scrambles to resolve merge conflicts like a Tokyo train at rush hour. We emerge scarred but smarter, intent on making the next launch less painful. But with different teams launching different sites, it can be hard to establish an iterative process. Especially as new work accumulates in the backlog, we reap what we sow in technical debt from rushed launches, quick & dirty choices made under the gun, and unimplemented ideas from retrospectives. Pantheon, however, has the same Customer Success team launching several enterprise sites per week, while assisting hundreds of self serve customers when they need a hand. However, the default networking option in OpenStack remains broken and the plethora of confusing plug-ins makes networking in OpenStack mysterious and difficult to manage. Enter MidoNet, the open source network virtualization solution from Midokura favored by DevOps cultures in web scale enterprises and service providers around the world. This session will present case studies from several end user deployments, showing how they use MidoNet to build, run and manage large-scale virtual networks in OpenStack clouds. How to you manage Performance in the Cloud, in particular in "Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments like Window's Azure or Heroku where you don't have a "virtual machine" to manage? Even in "Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)" environments like Amazon EC2 there are limitations on the tools you can deploy into that environment to assist in performance management, troubleshooting etc (e.g. you can't deploy promiscuous mode network sniffing tools in EC2). James Smith from Adactus will give us an overview of Cloud Services as a whole, and then drill down into some of the issues they have experienced in deployed their "Pulse" Claims Management Solution into the Azure cloud (http://www.pulseclaims.com/home). These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
