slide 1 This presentation under the course ‘’_______’’, titled as ‘’minimum standards for ICU’’, is being presented by my self __________to sir ___________, so let’s start. slide 2 ICU is a special facility within a hospital, which provides management of those patients who have complex life threatening illness, injuries, etc. there are three levels of ICUs, which are level 1 ICU, level 2 ICU and level 3 ICU, the lower the level, the more operational needs it would have. slide 3 Minimum standards in terms of workload, staff, operation, structure, equipment and monitoring for the different levels of ICUs would be presented here. slide 4 Generic requirements are same for all ICUs: slide 5 The general ICU staff includes: slide 6 The general ICU operation includes the admission, discharge, referral, and evacuation of the critically ill patients. slide 7 The ICU have connection to other facilities of the hospital like emergency, theaters, imaging, cardiology, and trauma centre. slide 8 ICU is not just a room but a collection of rooms, each having a distinct role. Including all these important areas, patient area for patient, working area for the staff while working, temperature controlled environment, medicine room for medicine, seminar room for meetings, equipment room for equipment not in use, offices for medical and nursing staff, general staff facilities, library, laboratory, computing facility to keep the record of equipment in use, waiting area for the relatives , cleaner and secretarial area. slide 9 The general ICU equipment includes ventilators for ventilation, aspirators for suction of liquids, bronchoscopes, slide 10 And pacemakers for pacing of heart, defibrillators for electrical defibrillation, monitors for observation and vascular access slide 11 And drainage system to remove the secretions, infusion pumps for medicine delivery, and beds slide 12 ICU monitoring is the monitoring of critically ill patients. Three main domains of monitoring are respiration which is respiratory rate and capnography, oxygenation which is spo2 and circulation which is pulse rate and arterial blood pressure. slide 13 ICU monitoring is the monitoring of critically ill patients. Three main domains of monitoring are respiration which is respiratory rate and capnography, oxygenation which is spo2 and circulation which is pulse rate and arterial blood pressure. slide 14 There are three distinct levels for ICU, each levels has its own special needs. slide 15 Once again, there is hierarchy for the different ICU levels. slide 16 The major difference is between the operations of level 3 and level 1 ICU, there are four P’s which are protocols, programs, procedures and policies, etc. slide 17 The ICUs are important as it has one of the major application of advanced bioinstrumentation and the staff and equipment both are highly active in patient management. slide 18 All the information presented here is taken from an journal article, titled as ‘’ MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR I
