Mind Mapping:
how to maximize your brain’s potential
Conscious mind
• Right now you are in
Conscious Mind
• With Conscious mind what
we do that is absorbed by our
subconscious Mind.
Subconscious mind
• More Powerful
• Does not know what is right
or wrong
• Remember and give back the
data as and when it is
required
• Gets the energy and power
from your own thoughts.
Alpha State of Mind is very
important for any learning to
take place.
OUR MIND
How does our mind work
• Your subconscious mind is very powerful.
• Out of 4 state of minds, Alpha state of mind
is very important.
• Alpha State of mind allows you to absorb and
learn better.
• Meditation and Exercise are the few ways to
get the Alpha stage and improve the learning
• Practice of these methods will improve the
exams anxiety, fear and stress.
Right Side Brain
The right side of the brain
controls the movement and
functions of the left side of the
body. The right side is
considered the intuitive or
spontaneous side and with
“Out-of-the-box” thinking.
Left Side Brain
The left side of the brain
controls the movement and
functions of the right side of the
body. Its is considered the
logical side with language and
maths skills
OUR BRAIN
Principals of Sharp Memory
 Visualisation - Use Picture
 Association - Create Links
 Outstanding (shocking very exciting)
 Rhythms (songs abcdedefghijklmnop)
 Colours
 Humour fun
 Overview -- Whole Picture
 5 senses : use all the senses to picture and make mind map
picture add sound smell touch
HOW DO YOU BRAIN STORE INFORMATION
 Our brain stores the information in
branches and related nodes
 we study in linear style hence difficult to
learn easily
 Linear notes or lines does not apply the
principals of memory hence forget easily
Condensing the information
• Facts :
• Out of 100 per cent of your lesson only 20
percent is required for you to remember and put
it back in your paper. Rest 80% will follow on its
on.
• These are called the key words
• If you are able to get and learn this 20%
• then your 90% work is done.
Condensing the information
Facts :
• Remember that Key words are mostly Noun,
verb, adverb, adjectives, Numbers
• How to get this 20 percent is important
• Read actively and carefully to know what is
important to remember
• As you read start brainstorming the information
and filtering it.
"A picture paints a thousand words"
Memory is the art of attention
Strategies to Wake up your brain and excel
• Mind mapping is the process of
creating a visual display of a concept using
symbols, images, colors, and key words. In
other words is a visual representation of note
taking/making that offers an overview of a
topic and its complex information in the form
of a picture.
• Mind Maps demonstrate how words and ideas
relate to each other.
What is mindmapping?
An effective method of notes making.
Mind Mapping reinforces understanding and gives a
visual framework for organizing ideas and making
associations.
Increase creativity, memory, and specifically the recall
of information
Promote visual thinking skills
Helps in learning concepts and vocabulary because
information is presented visually
A natural way of thinking and building thoughts on a
story plot or theme.
Promote active involvement and Foster Cooperative
Learning.
Why Mind Map?
Brain Compatible Learning
• Mind mapping closely mirrors our natural
thinking processes. It involves the whole brain
because both left and right hemispheres of our
brain are involved.
Ah ha right
Memory
• Since mind maps symbolize concepts with
short, easy-to-remember visual and linguistic
cues, students are able to remember more of
what they see and draw than what they read
and hear.
Good Idea Man
Applying all the principal of sharp
memory Mind Maps Use :
Lines
Symbols
Color
Images
Shapes
Making your own mind map
7 Steps
1. Start in the center of a blank page turned
sideways.
– Give your brain freedom to spread out in all
directions
7 Steps
2. Use an image or picture for your main idea.
– An image helps your imagination. It is more
interesting and keeps your focused helping you to
concentrate.
7 Steps
3. Use colors throughout.
– Colors are as exciting to your Brain as are images.
Color will add energy to your creative thinking.
7 Steps
4. Connect your main branches to the central
image etc.
– Your brain works by association. It likes to link two
(or three, or four) things together.
7 Steps
5. Make your branches curved instead of straight
lined.
– Having nothing but straight lines is boring to your
brain.
7 Steps
6. Use one key word per line
– Single words give your Mind Map more power and
flexibility.
Nest
Bird
Tree
7 Steps
7. Use images throughout
– Each image, like the central image, is worth a
thousand words!
Hmmm………
How many words will be the same
for everyone?
How many will be common to all
but one member?
How many words will have been
chosen by only one person?
Brainstorming activity
example - word to think
