1. Mind Map- Planning Activity
1) Which music genre will you be focusing on? And why? The
musicgenre I am going to focus in is rap and I have selected
this dueto my interest into the genre and also because I am
knowledgeablein this genreit will be more advantageousfor
me to do this genre.
2) Who will the target audience be? Rap as a genreis more
tailored to the youngteens to adult age. Rap also isn’t
restricted to a certain typeof class or ethnicity makingthis
genre morediversethan other genres outthere now dueto the
differenttypesof genres.. In terms of psychographics, the genre
of rap is seen to attract the typeof people who are seen, by
society, as the explorer. The explorer is seen as youngand in
need of discovery in terms of findingthemselvesand what they
wantto become in life.

I am going to use a single artist who is going to be acting like my
model
4) Why will they be on the magazine? What will be the focus
of the magazine?
The main focusof the magazinewill be how this individualartist
came up the rankingto become one of the greatest in hip hop history.
It will have his story and how he started from the bottom with
nothing and now he has madeit to the top.
5) How will your featured artist appear?
Costume
I ave a few ideas in my head for the costume however at the
momentI have decided to go for a classic hip hop look. This
consists of gold chain, plain t shirt and rich clothing.
Make-up- there won’t be any make-up dueto the modelnot
needingmake-up.
Setting-
The setting for my pictureswill be a simpleplain background
as I am more likely to crop the background out. I have decided
to crop the background outusingPhotoshop as there are mot
optionsyou can take without a background. For example, you
can place him on top of a background such as a brick wall.

2. Lighting- I will use ambient lighting. I want the natural
shadowingand lighting to take the best effect on my modelin
order to make the picturehave a unique rap style compared to
that of VIBE’s. I may usingside lighting as well in oneof my
images as It creates a mysteriouslook for the artist.
Props-The main prop I willbe usingwill includea gold chain. I
wantto associate as much as possible to my target audience in
order to get them all captivated in my magazine justby looking
at the cover. I also plan to have other propswhich will be
hanging around the shot to give the audiencehints to the
artist’s life and achievements such as money or gold rings.
NVC- I will have my artist posed in a smartyet rebellious pose
as to show to my audiencethat his life is completely different
to how his musiccareer is. My artist will be looking directly at
the camera as to entice my audiencemoreand to give my
audiencea focusto look at, this will create the need for my
audienceto read on and learn about my artist and his past.

6) What is your colour scheme and why have you selected
these colours? What are the connotations?
The main color will be beige as I feel like this is the only color
which can be seen as both bad and good if mixed with the
correct colors.
7) What other images will appear on the cover or on the
double page spread?
I may have a few small images of other well-known artists to
show who he is competing with and what level of music he is
producinghis musicat. I may also includeother images of the artist.
8) What story ideas will your magazine feature?
The main story of the magazine will be about how this young artist has
gone through struggles at such a young age and still managed to make it
as one of the most popular hip hop artists to this day.
