When setting up the CFPB, we set out to make the consumer financial marketplace better for consumers.
One way to do that was through making government work better - by asking the right questions and being smart about our regulations. Another way was through releasing the complaints we received from people about their financial products (credit cards, bank accounts, mortgages, student loans, credit ratings, etc).
We fought the internal - and external - battles to make this happen.
Now, over a year later, the impact is clear - banks are paying attention to the complaints they are receiving.
They are stepping up their customer service. Creating and communicating their processes.
The CFPB is using this data to spot macro trends, as well as pass on the individual complaints.
And all of this data is in the public - at least one startup is using it as a part of their product, as well as countless journalists.

He has struggled with addiction for years, attending multiple treatment programs but often relapsing. In his current program, he has learned skills to maintain his sobriety including building a support system, avoiding triggers, and establishing a daily routine of positive activities like working out, attending meetings, and helping his family.

Michael Matsoukas is a 17-year-old living in Hastings on The Hudson, NY who has struggled with alcohol and marijuana addiction since high school. He has been in and out of various treatment programs over the past few years, relapsing each time after discharge. He is currently at the Daytop Fox Run inpatient treatment facility. In his self-evaluation, he reflects on his substance use history and the various treatment programs he has attended. He discusses learning about himself and his triggers during this most recent stay. Michael plans to continue his recovery by attending outpatient treatment and AA/NA meetings when he is discharged, and have a daily routine of work, school, chores, and church to stay on track

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.

Mind if i smoke [melissa & zi ning]
- 1. Mind if I smoke?
- 2. I am a 17 years old male student studying in Raffles Junior College. My family is very poor and thus, I have to work as a waiter in a café after school to make ends meet.
- 3. I picked up smoking from my colleague who encouraged me to try. After the first time, I got addicted and I often asked him to help me to buy cigarettes as I am underage.
- 4. However, cigarettes in Singapore are very expensive. As time passed, my parents found out I started smoking as I was no longer able to pass to my parents as much of my pay as before.
- 5. As the only child in my family, my parents had high expectations of me and they looked down on me when they found out I smoke. I no longer speak to them as I afraid that they will get angry with me easily.
- 6. My addiction worsened and I started to bring cigarettes to school and often took ‘toilet breaks’ to smoke in the toilet stall.
- 7. One day, I got caught by one of my classmates when I was smoking. He reported to the disciplinary master and I was to be expelled. However, my parents pleaded with the school to give to me a second chance and thus, I was suspended for a week instead.
- 8. News travelled in our class quickly and everyone started to isolate me. They assumed that I was part of a gang and were afraid of me. I felt very lonely as nobody would speak to me.
- 9. As I was no longer able to satisfy my addiction in school, I started to smoke the void deck. Soon, I noticed that strangers were avoiding me as well. I was seen as a bad person by everyone around me.
- 10. One day, my colleague resigned and I lost the only person I could ask for help to buy cigarettes. When I tried to go to the convenience store to buy cigarettes on my own, I was told to show my identification card, which I was unable to as I am underage.
- 11. This encouraged me to quit smoking. I struggled to quit at first, but was unsuccessful and I relived my stress by arguing with my parents and skipping classes in school instead.
- 12. Without any cigarettes to smoke, my addiction worsened and I resorted to steal. Unfortunately I got caught by the security camera. The store manager called my parents and the police to arrest me.
- 13. I was made to stay in a rehabilitation centre. I was afraid of the people around me as a lot of the people there are very rowdy.
- 14. I tried to escape many times but I was always being caught and sent back. I realised it was impossible and I gave up trying. Today, I am still in the rehabilitation centre trying to get over my addiction. Even if I manage to quit, will people still look at me in the same way?
