Milan was a city in early modern Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries. For much of Milan's history, the Guelph and Ghilbelline families fought for control of the city, with the Ghilbelline family controlling Milan for a century and a half in the early 14th century. Milan has been influenced by many cultures such as Spanish, Italian, French, Australian and German cultures due to its history of foreign rule. Most residents of Milan are Catholic, though other religions with followers in the city include Orthodox, Buddhism, Judaism, and Protestantism.
