This document provides instructions for migrating an Essbase application from one server to another using the Migration Wizard. It describes migrating an application called Mexcorp from an Essbase Release 7.1.0 server to an Essbase Release 9.3.1 server that both use Shared Services security. The steps covered are examining the source and target servers, launching the Migration Wizard, selecting the source and target servers and applications, selecting which application-level and database-level objects to migrate, and examining the migration results. The process migrates application and database objects without data transfer to copy the application structure to the new server.

Overview
Essbase Administration Services provides a Wizard for migrating Essbase applications and databases from one server to another under Shared
Services security. For example, you might migrate an application from a development to test server or from a production to a test server to try out a
new release of Essbase software. With Migration Wizard, you can migrate application and database objects without leaving Administration
Services Console.

Scenario
In this tutorial, you migrate an Essbase application from an Essbase Release 7.1.0 server (localhost:1425) to a Release 9.3.1 server (WIN3KB)
running Shared Services security.

Prerequisites
Before starting this tutorial, you should:
1. Have both an Essbase Release 7.1.0 server and an Essbase Release 9.3.1 server installed and running.
2. Utilize Shared Services security on one or both servers.
3. Have an Essbase application on the Release 7.1.0 server available for migrating. This tutorial migrates an application called Mexcorp.

Usage Notes
The following points apply to applications migrated using Migration Wizard:
1. Only application and database objects are migrated . No data is transferred.
2. Objects and security on the source server are unchanged. Migration Wizard makes copies on the target server.
3. Source and target servers may be on different operating systems. For example, you can migrate an application from a Windows to a Unix
server.

1. From Administration Services Console in the navigation panel, expand the source server node (localhost:1425), then expand the Applications
node to reveal the Mexcorp application.
2. Expand the Mexcorp application to reveal the Mexsales database, including the database outline, calculation script CalcMex, and rules file
LoadMex.

Launching Migration Wizard
From the Administration Services Console control menu, select File > Wizards > Migration.
The Migration Wizard dialog box is displayed, showing the following steps to be performed:

Selecting Source and Target Servers
From the User level drop­down list, select Novice. From the Source Analytic Server drop­down list, select localhost:1425. Finally, from the Target
Analytic Server drop­down list, select WIN3KB, then click Next.

Choosing User level Advanced generates an error, since, under Shared Services security, Essbase does not manage security. Thus, under
Shared Services security, users and groups cannot be migrated using Migration Wizard.

Selecting Source and Target Applications
From the Source application on Analytic Server drop­down list, select Mexcorp. In the Target application on Analytic Server text box, enter
Mexcorp. Finally, select Replace target objects if they exist, then click Next.

Ensure that all application­level checkboxes are selected. Click Next.

Selecting Database­Level Objects to Migrate
1. Expand the Databases node and ensure that all database­level checkboxes are selected.
2. Optionally, expand subnodes to see individual objects.
3. Click Finish.
When the migration is complete, a message is displayed in the message panel of Administration Services Console.
