Christus Santa Rosa Health - San Antonio, TX Mar 08 – Sept 08
Sr. Enterprise Storage Engineer
 Project scope – Team Lead for EMC DMX, EMC Control Center 6.0. Reverse Engineer vendor implementation of 5
DMX, 8 copy using SRDF/A, SRDF/S for inter-site replication to Disaster Recovery site, Open Replicator for local
frame to frame snapshots. Document processes with screen shots using MS Visio, Project, Word, Excel.
 Build 14 new MS Cluster servers, Form 448 metas, 5 DMX, 2 DR sites, 8 time spaced DR copies of data, Create
SRDF pairs, sync site to site, create Open Replicator copies Local/Remote site, map LIDR to local host for backup,
map remote host RIDR for DR, map/mask/zone local OR FA ports Control/Remote arrays, establish all mirrors,
scripting was used heavily & added to documentation. Before I reverse engineered the vendor implementation, the
process was a high charge item from the vendor.
 My recommendation to use Open Replicator or HPUX host level LVM instead of a Viacom device for LUN replication
from the DMX800/HP EVA to the CX3-80, saved CHS $84,000. Migrate HP-UX storage between DMX800 to
CLARiiON CX3-80 & HP-EVA to CLARiiON CX3-80 online with Host LVM mirroring. Extend Striped metas across 8
copy SRDF/OR replication & not impact normal DR.
 ECC improvements, upgrades,/updates, agent deployment, event management, Symmetrix & CLARiiON agents to
improve StorageScope accuracy, trending & utilization reports, repairing CommandView SMI-S, importing HP EVA
8000 into ECC, enabling full SAN switch & Storage discovery into the repository. During my analysis, I uncovered a
very large quantity of unused 2-way BCV devices I was able to reclaim for emergency shortage.

POWER4 to POWER5 LPAR migration, provisioning, validation, problem determination, solution implementation;
document & provide advanced AIX knowledge transfer to client AIX, Storage, Capacity Planning, Disaster Recovery
team members.
 Environment consisted of 130 pSeries frames, p595, p570, p550, p520, p510, MMA-570 (p6-570), 410 AIX images,
APV, VIOS, Dynamic LPAR, multiple HMC consoles POWER6, POWER5, & POWER4 pSeries frames. SAN was
Brocade/McData core/edge configuration, Storage was EMC DMX4, DMX3, DMX2, CLARiiON.
 Defined LPAR’s, configured Virtual I/O, assigned virtual devices to LPAR’s, configured DLPAR/LPAR PROC, Memory,
micro-partitioning loaded via NIM with Web Sphere Application Front End, multiple instance Oracle, SAP stress test on
MMA-570 (p6-570) Proof of Concept.
 Developed per customer request a custom suite of scripts to query each HMC, & LPAR image for image utilization of
entitlement, resource allocation & utilization & generate HTML docs & Visio drawings in real time of the infrastructure.
 Data center infrastructure analysis uncovered nearly $1 million in cabled & unused HBA & NIC adapters.
Recommendations for AIX virtualization, consolidation, & upgrade from POWER4 to POWER5, reduced data center
footprint 28%, cooling & power costs by another 26%, accompanied by reducing yearly maintenance by $1 - $1.5
million. Basically show them on demand what they have powered on & the utilization.
Gwinnet Hospital Systems, Infinium Systems Atlanta Sept 06 – Nov 06
Sr. Systems/ITM Engineer
 Project scope – IBM ITM 5.x cleanup previous three failed attempts to provide value from operational Tivoli Monitoring
& Management, TEC Tivoli Enterprise Console. Not really relevant to SAN & Storage, but contact them today, & ask if
they were happy with my 200 hours, I was granted to repair previous three attempts to bring their ITM/TEC
environment online & present accurate enterprise alert & status. Very happy client. With my 200 hours, I resolved all
known operational/configuration errors including several hundred unknown errors across several hundred hosts. I used
this project to demo to IBM BP my ability to study a technology for several days, & then be a primary resource for
business requirements gathering, writing a statement of work, & implementing a corrected solution. I was invited back
to implement their ITM 6.
RMC Industries UK LLC - Atlanta, GA Feb 05 – Jun 06
Sr. Unix/SAN/EMC Storage/DR Architect
 Project scope – Follow-up to initial 24 months contract May 2002 – May 2004 below. When I left I was replaced by 4
engineers. Five months after I left CEMEX bought RMC, & all enhancements, technology refreshes were put on hold.
 Architect the environment, wrote the system of inter-system scripts that monitored & managed the operational
environment of all servers. I was on call, 24/7/365, I brought to the attention of CEMEX management, where planned
actions would cost CEMEX millions of dollars in losses, & provided a solution with process changes. Was engaged to
oversee the migration/relocation of the CEMEX/RMC DR environment from Atlanta to Houston. Team lead for
migration from EMC to IBM DS4000 storage, migration from VERITAS DataCenter to TSM.
Piedmont Natural Gas - Charlotte, NC Jan 05 – Aug 05
Sr. Unix System/SAN/EMC-IBM Storage
 Repaired the problem, in a few days, recovered partial backups from tapes that had been corrupted, putting full tapes
into service.
 During project discussions discovered the client was migrating from EMC Symmetrix to IBM FAStT, from VERITAS to
TSM, & Oracle from HP-UX to IBM AIX. The client discovered that I had similar migration project experience, I was
kept on contract to assure that the business objectives, & time lines were not delayed, & if possible reduced.
 Very intuitive, have a very broad base of experience & knowledge, system, SAN, storage, & LVM across multiple
vendors, & operating systems.
COX Communications - Atlanta, GA Nov 04 – Jan 05
Sr. SAN Storage Administrator EMC/DR/BC
 Backup EMC SANS/Storage team lead during data center consolidation, planning & implementing EMC
DMX/Symmetrix consolidation, data migration from smaller data centers to the new corporate primary data center, &
new EMC DMX4, & CLARiiON storage.
 Form, map, mask, zone DMX4 meta LUNS & present to SUN, HP-UX, AIX, & Windows system administrators for new
server rollout, & normal file system expansion allowing team lead to focus on design meetings.
 Sit in on design & implementation meetings during bin file specification & analysis.
RMC Industries UK LLC - Atlanta, GA May 02 – May 04
Sr. Unix System/SAN/EMC Storage/DR/BC
 Completely re-architect the entire RMC HACMP, Oracle & Web Tier DR infrastructure, develop detail project plans for
migrating to the new architecture, sold it to management, then lead the implementation of the plan. All subsequent
quarterly tests of failover & failback were easily implemented by the DR team. The results were a very tunable, flexible,
load balanced, highly available, easily scalable DR Infrastructure
 Implement ECC 4.1, upgrade several2 times to 4.3, then to ECC 5.1, up to ECC 5.3. Solutions Enabler v4, & v5.
PowerPath AIX & Windows. EMC-Brocade SAN switches
 Implement IBM HACMP multi site DR integration with the SRDF/TF scripts controlling mirror replic ation refresh state
