2. INTRODUCTION
Tauros Media’s Magento–Meta-tag generator module is developed for webshop owners who have a
Magento webshop full of products and pages but lack any meta-information associated with these pages
and products.
Most webshop owners find the task of manually updating the meta-info of products, categories and
pages so daunting that they totally ignore the meta-information section and as a result loose a golden
opportunity to optimize and improve their webshop’s footprint in the WWW.
This module is the answer to the problem of manually filling in meta-information for all products,
categories and pages.
Meta tag generator is a smart and automatic tool which will take care of most of the meta-info generation
tasks once installed.

3. PACKAGE
The package contains:
3.1. Magento-Meta Tag Generator module.
3.2. Module installation & user manual.
4. REQUIREMENTS
4.1. Magento webshop (Magento CE 1.4.X and above).
4.2. Working knowledge of Magento backend.
4.3. Cpanel/server ftp access.
4.4. An Up-to-date Test environment (separate from but exact copy of your Live setup)*.
* As suggested by Magento, do not install extensions/modules directly on your Live setup, try it on a Test
setup first. Also, it is a good practice to make backups of both Magento and the database before installing any
extension.

5. INSTALLATION
5.1. Download and unzip the Magento-Meta tag generator module directory.
5.2. Open the /Magento-Meta tag generator folder, here you can see the /app, /js, and /skin folders.
These folders contain the module and its files.
5.3. Upload the app, js and skin folder to your Magento root directory using your favorite FTP client.
This will not overwrite any files from your Magento install folder.
On some systems if you get a prompt asking whether to overwrite the folder, please select merge
instead
5.4. Now log in to your Magento backend.
Go to System > Cache management
5.5. Click ‘Select All’. Select ‘Refresh all’ from the ‘Actions’ drop-down menu and click ‘Submit’.
Refresh the ‘Cache’ irrespective of them being enabled or disabled.
5.6. Log out of the admin panel and login again.
5.7. You will now see a new ‘Meta Tags’ tab in top navigation menu of your admin panel. This indicates
that you have successfully installed the Magento-Meta tag generator module.

Now all you have to do is configure the module as per your requirements.
6. CONFIGURATION
6.1. Go to Admin panel > System > Configuration (left fig.)
6.2. Once on this page, look out for ‘Meta tag generator’ tab in the catalog section of left column.
Click on ‘Meta tag generator’ tab to open the module configuration page.

Explanation of fields in the configuration section:
Enable Meta Tag Generator: Select ‘Yes’ to enable the module.
Enable suggestions: This is a complementary feature of the module. It can be turned ‘off’ or ‘on’ as per
requirement.
Once enabled, it provides extra keyword suggestions per product/cms which can be used by the admin
or SEO specialist of the webshop.
Percentage of highest density to be used: This is a variable value field and can be set between 0-100.
This field decides how many highest density keywords words will be used.
For example if the module came up with 100 keywords (based on their density in the content) for a
product/page based on the content and this value is set as 40 (%) then only top 40 keywords will be
used to fill the meta-information section of that product/page.
Maximum number of highest density keywords to be used for generating suggestions:
This is also a variable value field and should be set a per your preferences, we suggest you keep it low
(1-3), since keywords are not supposed to have multiple words in them.
Once you enable and configure the module as per your requirements, you can start generating meta-info
for products, categories and pages.
7. FUNCTIONALITIES
7.1 One click bulk meta-info update
You may already be having an established webshop with hundreds of products and pages.
Meta-tag generator module can create and update meta-info for all these existing products, categories
and pages in one click. You do not have to manually update each product or page.
Go to Top menu: Meta Tags > Refresh Meta Tags
On this page you will find three buttons and a status bar. You can use these 3 buttons to generate meta-
tags in bulk ie. it will generate meta-tags for all existing products, categories and pages at once.

It is possible that the admin or SEO specialist has already manually entered meta-info for some products
or pages.
The bulk update will overwrite any existing meta-info, so to avoid this
‘Generate Meta Tag only for empty meta fields ’ option has been provided. You can choose to
update only the empty meta-info fields by ticking on this option. If you do not tick it then the module will
update ‘ALL’ meta-info fields and any existing meta-data will be over-written with new data.
Once you click one of the buttons, it will start generating the meta-tags for the selected section. It might
take some time depending on the quantity of the data available to be processed. The progress bar will
show the status of the meta-tag generation process.
After you click on one of the buttons all 3 will turn grey and will not be clickable till the process is
complete. This is to avoid running multiple-process at the same time. Allow it complete the process
100% and then go for the next section. The buttons will turn orange to indicate that the process was
completed and you can generate meta-tags for other sections. You can choose to bulk-generate meta-
tags of only one section as well.
7.2 Meta-tags for products
To edit the meta-tag of single product: Go to Catalog > Manage products > Select the product you want
to edit.

Once you are on the product detail page, go to Meta information section under product information.
The module auto fills Meta title, Meta keywords and Meta description of a product with best possible
content.
Each field of the Meta information section of a product is explained in the image above.
On top of it, it also provides extra suggestions to be used to add more keywords for the product.
These suggestions can be used by clicking on them or can be ignored if the admin thinks the auto filled
keywords are enough.
The suggestion feature can also be used as a critical tool to optimize the content of the product
descriptions and pages. The suggestions are a reflection of what search engines are reading in the page
while indexing it.
So if it is giving vague suggestions for a particular product then it is highly recommended that you
optimize the content of the product description to contain more concentrated keywords.
Once you edit the Meta info section, click ‘save’ and your product is SEOed with best meta-tags.
7.3 Generating meta-info for categories
Go to Catalog > Manage categories > Select the category you want to edit.

Optimizing a Magento category page is a difficult task since it nothing more than a product list view page
and has no real content for the search engines to read.
The module helps the admin in this section. It auto-fills Page title and keywords section based on the
category title since title is the most important content on category pages.
Then the module selects the most important and valuable sentence from the category description and
adds it to Meta description section.
Do not forget to save the category after you finish editing and optimizing its content.
Now we move on to the next and final section of module.
7.4 Generating meta-tags for CMS pages:
Go to CMS > Pages > Select the page you want to edit.

8. THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW
- The module is not a keyword research module. It is a meta-tag generator module and an SEO tool
which helps the admin analyze the current content of the product and pages.
Its purpose is to read the content of a product/cms page and provide the admin with keywords and
suggestions based on the content of the page. The admin can choose to use the suggestions or further
optimize the content with more concentrated keywords.
- The module will only add keywords and description until a max limit of 255 characters each. This is a
limit set by search engines. Anything added after the limit of 255 characters is disregarded by Google
and also regarded as a negative practice by some other search engines.
- It is a generalized module so you can configure it to get the best possible results depending on your
content’s quality.
- Some of the common English words that the module ignores while generating keywords and
suggestions:
