This document discusses different types of video signals and coding standards. It describes component video which uses separate signals for red, green, and blue channels, providing the best color reproduction. Composite video mixes color and intensity into a single signal, causing some interference. S-Video uses two signals for luminance and composite chrominance, reducing crosstalk. Digital video allows storage, access and editing of video and is more tolerant of noise. Standards like CCIR 601 set component digital video parameters. High definition TV aims to increase visual field width through greater pixel counts and aspect ratios. The ATSC digital TV standard supports various formats up to 1080p at 60 frames/sec. MPEG-2 is used for video compression and AC-3

AMR is a new speech coding standard that allows for adaptive multi-rate coding. It uses multiple coding rates from 4.75 kbps to 12.2 kbps depending on radio frequency conditions, using lower rates with more error protection in poor conditions. This provides improved speech quality overall compared to existing standards. AMR also enables potential cell extension since lower rates provide more robust links. It allows for half-rate modes for increased network capacity. Motorola infrastructure requires new hardware to support AMR and half-rate modes.

DELTA presented ways to minimize ASIC test costs using their European and Asian resources. They analyzed 28 ASIC projects and found test and QA activities accounted for 15-30% of total costs. DELTA proposed a strategy using their European resources for prototyping and medium volumes, and transferring knowledge to Asia for high volume testing, allowing test costs as low as 6.1 cents per chip depending on commitments made. A case study showed how optimizing test systems and processes reduced hourly rates for an RF and baseband chip from $3,940 and $6,000 originally to $2,450 and $2,680, respectively.

HDTV provides higher quality digital video broadcasts compared to analog television. It offers improved resolution, reduced noise and ghosting, and additional audio/data services. HDTV transitioned from analog to digital broadcasts and its adoption is growing. Key aspects include higher pixel counts, different display technologies like plasma and DLP, and higher frame rates that reduce motion blur compared to standard definition. HDTV connectivity requires components that support digital signals and higher resolutions. Its impact includes increased spending on equipment and production quality.
Wideband-AMR validation and testing was conducted over 3G networks. Wideband audio from 50-7000 Hz provides improved speech quality, naturalness, and intelligibility compared to narrowband audio from 200-3400 Hz. The test involved comparing wideband and narrowband audio streams for various audio clips and analyzing frequency responses. Results showed wideband captured higher frequencies and had better adaptive noise cancellation and audio quality. Testing also validated seamless switching between wideband and narrowband during 3G to 2G handovers.
