2. Experience and background
Invaluable experience over a wide range of Audio-visual product lines has been gained over
the past 20 years.
AV technology has evolved from analogue to digital and is converging rapidly within the
network.
Having being in charge of many varied projects and being the primary technical lead in a
broad variety of installations has led to a broad and multi-faceted background of experience
within the industry.
Being in a multi-faceted role within the particular field of expertise has led to broad
experience in the multiple phases of a typical client engagement.
 Engage and consult with the client,
 Engage LOB managers and other consultative parties to understand the scope of
what is required.
 Research and design an appropriate fit for the determined requirement.
 Do a detailed system design including CAD. (Stardraw AV)
 Liaise with suppliers for quotations and put together a bill of materials for the
recommended design
 Undertake budgetary costings and consider alternative products where appropriate.
 Take the engineering lead on the project implementation co -ordinating with the
client, project management team and installation teams as required.
Having been the programming lead for most of the projects he has undertaken has led to
gaining a deep understanding of both the installation and configuration of the products
deployed.
With the convergence of networks happening at an ever increasing pace it has been
important to continuously further technical skillset and knowledge. Being a keen and
enthusiastic online researcher and learner has ensured this with the focus being
predominantly on the IP-centric areas of AV technology.
A strong interest and passion for the collaboration and converged communication
technology areas particularly centred on Telepresence products as well as the convergence
with typical desktop collaboration products such as Cisco IPT, Lync and Cisco Jabber
together with browser based communication platforms such as WebEx.
Cisco and Polycom infrastructure platform classroom training has been undertaken although
due to the rapid pace of development in this area and the increasing use of virtualisation
refreshment training in this technology area is required from time to time.

3. Career Development Objectives
Being employed by Dimension Data was an ideal opportunity to further skills and knowledge
and currently the intention is to obtain CCNA with a view to continuing to the Cisco CCNA
Collaboration specialisation.
In the current working environment there are a wide range of network, IPT and security
engineers and so the focus has been on the AV and Telepresence specialist roles.
I would like to further my career and move more into a consultative and design role
(Solution Architect) where my wealth of skills and experience can be put to good use in
discussing and understanding clients requirements and then putting together appropriate
collaboration solutions to meet those requirements together with other team members.
The following typical roles or a combination of them could be appropriate for consideration.
 Telepresence support –
Remotely monitor and assist with managing and supporting telepresence units and
infrastructure over the network.
 Control system design management and support – Remotely program, manage and
support Crestron control systems including Crestron Roomview. (Commercial and
educational sector)
 Consult, Design and program Crestron control systems and Audio-visual solutions
for telepresence rooms, boardrooms and other appropriate meeting facilities such as
auditoriums and conference rooms . Crestron Digital Media is a strong interest and
passion.
 Be part of a multi-faceted team that focusses on seeking and developing
opportunities with educational institutions for blended learning or distance learning
solutions. This is a currently emerging market area.
 Command and control environments – Consult and design appropriate audio-visual
solutions for command and control environments including video walls and multiple
displays utilising a network centric topology.
 Consult, design and assist with broader collaboration solutions.
There are many other roles that may be appropriate so if there is a likely opportunity in a
particular business area it can be discussed and considered.
Currently career development is limited in the Port Elizabeth area and currently I am
seeking to further my career, specialisations and seek international exposure and
experience particularly in the United States.

Experience and background Invaluable experience over a wide range of Audio-visual product lines has been gained over the past 20 years. AV technology has evolved from analogue to digital and is converging rapidly within the network. Having being in charge of many varied projects and being the primary technical lead in a broad variety of installations has led to a broad and multi-faceted background of experience within the industry. Being in a multi-faceted role within the particular field of expertise has led to broad experience in the multiple phases of a typical client engagement.  Engage and consult with the client,  Engage LOB managers and other consultative parties to understand the scope of what is required.  Research and design an appropriate fit for the determined requirement.  Do a detailed system design including CAD. (Stardraw AV)  Liaise with suppliers for quotations and put together a bill of materials for the recommended design  Undertake budgetary costings and consider alternative products where appropriate.  Take the engineering lead on the project implementation co -ordinating with the client, project management team and installation teams as required. Having been the programming lead for most of the projects he has undertaken has led to gaining a deep understanding of both the installation and configuration of the products deployed. With the convergence of networks happening at an ever increasing pace it has been important to continuously further technical skillset and knowledge. Being a keen and enthusiastic online researcher and learner has ensured this with the focus being predominantly on the IP-centric areas of AV technology. A strong interest and passion for the collaboration and converged communication technology areas particularly centred on Telepresence products as well as the convergence with typical desktop collaboration products such as Cisco IPT, Lync and Cisco Jabber together with browser based communication platforms such as WebEx. Cisco and Polycom infrastructure platform classroom training has been undertaken although due to the rapid pace of development in this area and the increasing use of virtualisation refreshment training in this technology area is required from time to time.

Career Development Objectives Being employed by Dimension Data was an ideal opportunity to further skills and knowledge and currently the intention is to obtain CCNA with a view to continuing to the Cisco CCNA Collaboration specialisation. In the current working environment there are a wide range of network, IPT and security engineers and so the focus has been on the AV and Telepresence specialist roles. I would like to further my career and move more into a consultative and design role (Solution Architect) where my wealth of skills and experience can be put to good use in discussing and understanding clients requirements and then putting together appropriate collaboration solutions to meet those requirements together with other team members. The following typical roles or a combination of them could be appropriate for consideration.  Telepresence support – Remotely monitor and assist with managing and supporting telepresence units and infrastructure over the network.  Control system design management and support – Remotely program, manage and support Crestron control systems including Crestron Roomview. (Commercial and educational sector)  Consult, Design and program Crestron control systems and Audio-visual solutions for telepresence rooms, boardrooms and other appropriate meeting facilities such as auditoriums and conference rooms . Crestron Digital Media is a strong interest and passion.  Be part of a multi-faceted team that focusses on seeking and developing opportunities with educational institutions for blended learning or distance learning solutions. This is a currently emerging market area.  Command and control environments – Consult and design appropriate audio-visual solutions for command and control environments including video walls and multiple displays utilising a network centric topology.  Consult, design and assist with broader collaboration solutions. There are many other roles that may be appropriate so if there is a likely opportunity in a particular business area it can be discussed and considered. Currently career development is limited in the Port Elizabeth area and currently I am seeking to further my career, specialisations and seek international exposure and experience particularly in the United States.
